BJ Services’ TUCANO Cementing Unit - Brazil

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The BJ Services “Tucano” is a body load mounted twin cementing unit. The Tucano
functions simultaneously as a cement mixing and pumping unit, while accurately
maintaining slurry density and consistency over a wide range of performance requirements.
The unit is equipped with an integral Precision Slurry Mixer (PSM), and two triplex pumps.
The PSM system is a recirculating cement mixing system that uses recirculated slurry, and
a mixing tub and agitator to mix the slurry thoroughly.

The PSM provides consistent slurry, and density control to within plus or minus 0.1 lb./gal,
over a wide range of mixing rates and slurry weights. Mixing rates up to 10 bbl./min. have
been achieved with slurry weights of 13 lbs./gal., and rates of 4 bbl./min. have been mixed
at 22 lbs./gal. All job parameters are monitored and controlled continuously by a BJ
Services “Pendant Brain Box” system.

The Tucano is rated for 700 hydraulic horsepower and is equipped with two Pacemaker
triplex pumps. The pumps are driven independently through two Allison automatic
transmissions by inline six cylinders, four cycles, diesel engines. The standard unit is
equipped with 4.5 in. plungers and integral high pressure manifolds, and is rated for 10,000
PSI. Pressures to 15,000 PSI can be achieved with proper selection of plunger size. The
twin pump design allows for greater pumping rate variability and provides 100% backup of
the pumping system.

gauge calibrated in half Bbls. and cubic meters, mud/water manifolds, drain valves, and
