Chapter 1
Recently, glass fiber filters1 have been put on the market for
use as a filtering medium. A 2.1-cm disk fits most standard
Gooch crucibles. To prepare the crucible, place the fiber disk
in the crucible, cover with a Gooch perforated-porcelain disk,
wash with water, and dry at 1050C to constant weight as in the
case of the asbestos mat filter.

SODIUM PEROXIDE and CARBON (fusion)2

This is effective for all refectories, but very dangerous
explosions can occur if it is improperly performed. The fusion
is carried out in a covered nickel crucible nearly submerged in
running cold water.3

VERY WEAK ACID WITH STRONG BASE

If half-normal bases are used, the titration of acids with

ionization constants less than about 10-7 is not feasible; if
tenth-normal bases are used, the titration of acids with
ionization constants less than about 10-6 is not feasible.
Ionization of boric acid is 5.5x10-10. The inflection (at 10ml)
corresponds to the replacement of only one hydrogen in
H3BO3.

It is possible to titrate boric acid with a fair degree of accuracy by
first adding the soluble polyhydric alcohol (such as glycerol or
mannitol) to the solution. A complex acid is formed which is stronger
than boric acid and gives an inflection in the phenolphthale range.

SCREEN SETTINGS

Pixel dimensions

The number of pixels along the height and w4idth of a bitmap

image. The display size of an image on-screen is determined
by the pixel dimensions of the image plus the size and setting
of the monitor.

When preparing an image for online display (for example, a

Web page that will be viewed on a variety of monitors), pixel
dimensions become especially important. Because your image
may be viewed on a 15-inch monitor, you may want to limit
the size of your image to 800-by-600 pixels to allow room for
the Web browser window controls.

Image resolution

The number of pixels displayed per unit of printed length in an

image, usually measured in pixels per inch (ppi). In
photoshop, you can change the resolution of an image; in
ImageReady, the resolution of an image is always 72 ppi. This
is because the ImageReady application is tailored to creating
images for online media, not print media.

THE BREAKTHROUGH
This is effective for all refectories, but very dangerous
explosions can occur if it is improperly performed. The fusion
is carried out in a covered nickel crucible nearly submerged in
running cold water.4

On the Insert tab, the galleries include items that are designed
to coordinate with the overall look of your document. You can
use these galleries to insert tables, headers, footers, lists, cover
pages, and other document building blocks. When you create
pictures, charts, or diagrams, they also coordinate with your
current document look.
