Company Overview
Meena Bazar is a well-known retail supermarket chain in Bangladesh. It started its operation
back in 2002 and currently runs outlets in Dhaka, Chittagong, and Khulna division. They have a
versatile product category. From home grocery to pet food, they surely know how to fulfill
consumer’s daily needs. Every Meena Bazar outlet carries almost 8,000-10,000 products to sell.
It provides a convenient shopping experience, friendly customer service, along easy parking
provisions for its customers. At Meena Bazar, they not only sell the products to the customers,
but they also try to convey the product benefits to them too. To provide the customers with the
best possible value for their money, they get the products directly from the farmers, removing the
middlemen while ensuring high quality, freshness, and continuous availability. This way, Meena
Bazar has a good relationship with their supply chain.

Meena Bazar is a part of Gemcon Group. Meena Bazar falls under the retail food industry of
Bangladesh. It also produces organic products, dairy items, prepared food & herbal products. In
recent years Bangladesh’s economy is booming with the help of digital sectors. While keeping
up with competitor Meena Bazar has also digitalized their shopping activity by launching Meena
click back in 2017. With the help of Meena, click consumers don’t have to visit the Meena Bazar
store. All they have to do is sign up at Meena Click and can easily order from there. This is a
competitive advantage as none of Meena Bazar’s competitors like Agora does. This super shop is
convenient and reliable for customers and is widely prevalent among Bangladeshi people and
their families. The goal of Meena Bazar is to ensure customers are getting value for money. The
digitalization of Meena Bazar through Meena click helped it to be convenient for customers.
Every item is assorted adequately on Meena click, making it easily accessible to get product
information. The products of Meena Bazar targets a wide range of segments, but their most
prominent target is middle-class families, but besides those people of all class and background

Current process map explanation

The current process followed by Meena Bazar includes the organization getting most of its
goods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, from its suppliers and delivering them to their market
outlets. Due to the pandemic situation, where we must refrain from physical contact with one
another. Their Meena clicks mobile application helps the consumers by giving the product to
customers at their doorstep. They have to option to pay cash on delivery, and the payment
method also includes through credit card payment option on Meena click. It is a safe and
convenient way for customers as their supply chain is kept very minimal because the products
don’t have to go through too many suppliers, which can be risky at a time of the global pandemic
when products can easily get cross-contaminated and make people ill.

The process also entails how customers come to the brick-and-mortar part of the business. The
customer in this scenario has the liberty to physically go through aisles and see the products
which are assorted according to proper category and labeling. Customers decide which product
to buy, the customers take the desired product, and it is brought to the cashier, where after the
payment, the product gets handed over to the customer.

The second service that Meena Bazar offers its customers is through Meena click; in this
scenario, the customer does not have to be physically present in the store. They can order online,
and delivery is done; a delivery man gets the product to its destination. The payment can be done
online or done with cash on delivery. The process map shows vital decision points where
suppliers deliver the product, and if the products are up to the organizational standards, they will
be kept or sent back. Due to the pandemic situation, the current process is not a safe way to run
the business process. There are many flaws with the current process map of the Meena Bazar,
and the current process holds no regard for safety and discipline.

Improved process map explanation

To improve sustainability in the long term in a global pandemic situation, our improved process
plan proposes that Meena bazaar produces most of its essential products in mass quantities hence
bringing down the supplier’s price. Meena Bazaar can take advantage of economies of scale and
gain more profit. It would take quite the investment to start producing most things in-house in
massive quantities, but so are the profits in the long run. This new process also keeps outside
contamination off, which is very useful during a global pandemic. The supply chain has been
grown to bring in more profit also because everything is in-house; Meena Bazaar can now
choose who to deal with or not. They can limit supply contact, farming fresh produce in-house in
their farm, instead of getting them from suppliers. This way, they have to incur fewer costs; even
in-house production of certain products will decrease their manufacturing cost and increase profit
margins. Due to the global pandemic scenario, we have designed the new process in such a way
as to minimize contact. To ensure social distancing, waiting line queuing techniques are formed.
Limits the people coming into the store and ensures people maintain distance while shopping in
aisles. Everyone on the premises must wear protective gear at all times in the store. At the time
of delivery through Meena, click products are packaged in a better way to limit contamination
and ensure the product’s safety when it reaches valued customers. Due to the global pandemic,
Meena Bazar needs to put all of its emphasis on the protection of customers.

Conclusion
The most important thing is Meena Bazar is a grocery store. And they have to meet all the
requirements of a customer. Also, Meena Bazar is the country’s most significant and most
prestigious grocery store. They are the leading organization in the grocery category, and they
Meena Bazar a concern of Gemcon food Agricultural products Limited. Meena Bazar has
successfully operated their business since 2002. They started their business with two retail stores
in Dhaka and Chittagong. But in this pandemic, they must change their Supply chain process to
cope with the market and meet the customer’s requirements.

From various sources, we knew about the current condition of their business how they operate
and process their business. And also how they maintain their supply chain. Now they are
processing their business and supply chain in a conventional way which is very old and
inefficient, and ineffective. In this global pandemic, they can't even touch their profit margin. It
happens because they can't maintain their supply chain. In this pandemic, the whole country is
under lockdown. That's why the supply of organic food a vegetable is meager. So that they can't
meet their needs and requirements, and it affects their profit margin.

In this global pandemic, most of the companies can't touch their profit margin. Some companies
and retail shops have successfully tackled this situation by implementing a new process map. So
we are suggesting to Meena Bazar to implement a new process map. In this new process, map
most of the vegetables they can produce on their in-house farm. It helps them to reduce supply
time also their supply cost. And by implementing this new process map, they can easily maintain
their customer’s needs and requirements. Through this unique process map, they can easily cross
the profit margin.
