You can download the installer for this new software version and an updated user manual in the download
area of the OMICRON Customer Portal (https://my.omicronenergy.com).
For a detailed feature description, we recommend reading the MPD 800 DC Measurement Application Note,
which is available in the Knowledge Library of the OMICRON customer area.
The DC testing feature is available as an MPD 800 add-on for users of the standard packages.
It is compatible with the MPD 600 hardware and is part of the MPD Suite Upgrade packages (for MPD 600
users who purchased the advanced package of the previous MPD/MI software). The feature is compatible
with the MBB1 and other disturbance reduction tools such as 3FREQ and unit/channel gating.
Please note that OMICRON does not offer DC accessories, such as a resistive high-voltage divider for test
voltage measurements. Further, the DC feature set within the MPD Suite software does not include the two
charge count bar graphs available in the MPD/MI Software version 1.6.7 .
Please note that OMICRON does not currently offer TEV sensors in the PD sensors portfolio.
Feature enhancements
We continue to work on improving our product features with the aim of making PD testing more user friendly.
For us it is very important to listen to user feedback and implement the best suggestions for improvements
into our software. We cannot implement all ideas, but the following ones made it into this release:
To enhance the usability during replay of PD dataset files when assessing the measured PD data,
the replay window is now detachable, enabling a larger view.
The assessment feature gets two further improvements. First, a new lock-in setting for the inception
voltage is introduced. And secondly, pass/fail assessments and inception/extinction assessments
can now be reset independently. Both enhancements will support the assessment in test conditions
with disturbances which might trigger misleading results. More importantly, we recommend using
channel/unit gating or other filtering tools such as 3FREQ or 3PARD for test conditions with many
disturbances.
The automation interface has been expanded and many issues have been improved. Its
documentation has also been updated and extended.
PRPD Dithering
For better visualization of few PD pulses in the PRPD diagram we have now implemented dithering and
each PD pulse will be shown as a bigger area in the PRPD. It is available in the MPD standard package and
all MPD Suite upgrade packages.
Statistical PD values
We have renamed the QAVG value to QAVG IEC to make it more intuitive as this is calculated by the average of
the QIEC value. Additionally, we are introducing a second PD average value – QAVG PD – which calculates the
average of all measured PD events.
Please note that QIEC refers the calculation for the largest repeatedly occurring PD magnitude as defined in
chapter 4.3.3 of the IEC 60270 and its pulse train response.
The localization of the newly implemented features, such as DC support, will be available in the next
software release in all languages and is currently only available in English .
