FDP & ONE CREDIT COURSE
TECHNOLOGY & ADVANCEMENT IN LIGHT WEIGHT CONCRETE

A Two days one credit course and FDP delivered to 3 rd & 5th Semester registered students and faculty on “Technology
and Advancement in Light Weight Concrete” by Mr. Sivaram Kumar, Director Technical Operations, Luca Industries
International, Berlin, Germany, conducted by Department of Civil Engineering, GMRIT.

The main theme of the one credit course is to elaborate the advantages of lightweight concrete and its reduced mass
and improved thermal and sound insulation properties, while maintaining adequate strength, about the reduced weight
which has numerous advantages, not the least of them being a reduced demand on energy during construction.

The prime goal of the FDP is to enhance the knowledge about the Technology and Advancement in Light Weight
Concrete. In recent years, researchers have focused on the improvement of concrete quality regarding its mechanical
and durability properties, service life and environmental aspects. As resources diminish globally and the environment
comes under increasing stress, the adoption of sustainable design and construction practices is an important strategy to
meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The FDP will
provide a common platform for professionals, academicians and researchers to share their knowledge and ideas in the
area of Light Weight Concrete to cater for the rapid growth of infrastructure. It will help the participants to redefine
their horizons in recent advancement in light weight technologies in the broad application of concrete and other
sustainable material in construction processes leading towards sustainable development and recognizing the areas
which require future research.
IGBC
