PURPOSIVE COMMUNICATION

OVERVIEW:

In this module, the student should be able to identify the problem he/she would want to work
and prepare the chapter I of the research paper.

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of this module, the student should be able to:

1. Write the introduction for chapter I

2. Read and gather data for the review related literature
3. Prepare the statement of the problem
4. Write 5 objectives and transform these objectives into specific questions
5. Prepare the scope of the study
6. Illustrate and explain the conceptual framework
7. Give the importance of the study to the individual, family, community, government, school
8. Define the important words in the statement of the problem, specific questions, scope of
the study and conceptual framework

A. The title of Chapter I and the 8 parts in Chapter I:

How to write the Introduction

1. First paragraph, what is the topic you would want to work on – the online classes we have
due to the pandemic - In the first paragraph discuss why classes have to be blended
learning, where you have online classes and modules to work on, discuss what is the
pandemic.

2. Second paragraph- What problems did you encounter in blended learning- in terms of
technology, materials, and the teaching-learning process.
 3. Third paragraph – prepare five objectives that you want to accomplish in the research paper-
to find out the problems encountered in blended learning, to determine how effective is the
program used in the computer for online classes, to determine the available materials being

used, to describe how effective the virtual classes are, to determine how effective teachers are
able to present their lessons.

4. Fourth paragraph – describe the historical background of virtual or online classes, how did
these develop, how has the development of computer and the internet contributed in the
educational system.

5. Fifth paragraph – a desire to discover what is wrong with blended learning/virtual classes
and how teaching -learning can be improved in blended learning/virtual classes

B. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE – you can ask the librarian to give you the link to the E-journals and
E-books available in the library. Gather 20 references – books, journals, and internet, you will use these
as the references you will read in gathering secondary data ( what has been written and researched
about the topic you are working on.

Bibliography format for internet – if it is a book, follow the format for the book and at the end

The website where you got the data. If it is a journal, follow the format for the

Journal and place the website at the end.

Prepare an outline of what you need to read to support your study. These questions will guide
you on what articles or references you will read to support your problem.

Example: 1. What are online classes?

2.What is blended learning?
3. Why are online classes and blended learning being used ?
4. How has technology helped to continue education for the
Different levels?
5. What caused this change in the education of students?
6. What is the COVID 19 pandemic?
7. How has this pandemic affected the lives of the students?
8. What is the difference between face-to-face classes to virtual learning?
9. How effective is virtual learning on the part of the students?
10. How effective is virtual teaching on the part of the teachers?
The articles you should read should answer each of the questions in the outline but what
you will do is to read the whole article and summarize it with reference citation.
B. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: How will your prepare your research problem? Remember your
topic should be timely and relevant, it is something where you will learn and contribute
something. To prepare your statement of the problem, do the example below:

What: Online classes/blended learning

Why: To avoid contamination of the COVID 19 pandemic
Who: Respondents of the study – college students
Where: World Citi Colleges, Quezon City
When: Second semester 2020-2021
Put these 5 Ws in one sentence to make your statement of the problem.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: This study will find out the problems encountered by college
students of World Citi Colleges-Quezon City in the online classes/blended learning due to the
COVID 19 pandemic during the second semester 2020-2021.

C. Specific Quesstions:: Go back to third paragraph in your introduction and transform the
objectives you stated there into specific questions:
Example: Objective: To determine the problems encountered in online classes
Specific Question1. What are the problems encountered in online classes?
Objective: To determine how effective is the technology being used
Specific Question 2. How effective is the technology being used in online classes?
Objective: To identify the materials being used in blended learning
Specific Questions 3. What are the materials being used in blended learning?

Specific Question 4. How effective are virtual classes to the students?
Objective: To determine how effective are teachers in presenting their lessons?

D. SCOPE OF THE STUDY – GO BACK TO THE 5Ws in your statement of the problem and add the
how. This time write a sentence for each W and the How to form a paragraph

This study will find out the problems encountered in online classes/blended learning.

The respondents of this study are the college students at World Citi Colleges in Quezon City.

This study will be done during the second semester of school year 2020-2021. A questionnaire

Will be prepared and distributed online to 100 respondents.

E. CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK - Conceptual framework is your own concept while theoretical
framework is done by the expert and has been published in references. You will use the IPO
format – INPUT – PROCESS – OUTPUT

You have to separate these boxes and connect the first box with an arrow to the second box and

INPUT – The researcher choose the colleges students of World Citi Colleges, Quezon City as the
respondents in this study because they are presently doing the online classes.

PROCESS – With the sudden pandemic of COVID 19, classes in all levels have to be made through
online classes /blended learning to be able to continue education. Face-to-face classes cannot
be done to avoid contamination and spread of COVID 19. However, since this was done with
out much preparation, there are problems encountered in the online classes.

OUTPUT – After, identifying the problems encountered in online classes, effective teaching
strategies can be implemented to improve the online classes/blended learning.

F. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY – In this part , the researcher will give the importance of the study
to the concerned people.
Example:

For the students, training has to be done to the students so they can effectively use the online
classes. At the same time the technology should be available in the homes of the students.

For the teachers, training is also needed so that the teachers can effectively present their
lessons in virtual classes and technology should be available in their homes.

For the Schools, available technology should be provided to the students and faculty.
 For the family, a space should be provided in the homes where students can study without
being disturbed.

For the community, since all the students are undergoing online classes, the Barangay should
see to it that unnecessary noise is avoided in the community during day time.

For the government, training of teachers should be done continuously and the effective
technology should be provided.
