(The Caballero’s Way) Theme The theme of a play refers to its central idea, because it is the explanation of what the play means. Analyzing a plays from the point of view of interpreting its meaning. It can be clearly state through either dialog or action, or could be inferring after watching the entire performance. The theme is the philosophy that forms the base of the story or a moral lesson that the characters learn. It is the message that the play gives to the audience. For example, the theme of a plays could be of how greed leads to one’s destroyer, or how the wrong use of authority ultimately results in the end of power. The theme of a play could be blind love or the strength of selfless love and sacrifice, or true friendship. Interpretation of Caballero’s Way 1. Man and nature: the relationship between Senor Sandridge and the natural world (his horse and every place in Mexico City). 2. Man and society: Senor Sandridge is a desperado who was being hate by all the pupils in that Mexico Regency. 3. Universal theme of an abstract nature: The universal theme is treason. I think that Senor Sandridge was loyal to his girlfriend, but she break his truth and make everyone heart broke. 4. Family relationship: a relation between Senor Sandridge with the families of gregorio and the barista. 5. Special family relationships: Senor Sandridge has a relation with Tonia’s Father, but he was already old to get along with him. 6. Other private themes: The private theme is a triangle love between Senor Sandridge, Sheriff, and Tonia. 7. Elements of autobiography: autobiography is the true story of a person life written by that same person. Writers reveal the effects of certain events in their story lives.
