HIGH TECH STEEL STRUCTURES 23.11.01 3/8

1 General
Important: The doorblade shall not be removed during mounting and welding. Remove only for short
periods if necessary.

Welding is advised by IMS as follows:

Welding at the “inside”between door frame and cut opening to be continuos a = 5 mm.
Welding at the “outside ”of doorframe onto the bulkhead, to be continuos a = 3,5 mm.
Rails and brackets: a = 3.5 mm

It is important during installation, not to force the door onto a not straightened bulkhead. In case of
clearance bigger than 2mm between doorframe and bulkhead, then the bulkhead shall be straightened, and
the frame not bend or twisted into no clearance.

2 Sill of door (only F12)

Buckling of integrated bottomplate:

The 12mm sill at bottom of doorframe must be inspected during installation work with a straightedge, and
adjusted before continuos welding are done.
Note: there is a temporary stiffener on the bottom plate. Do not remove it before the welding is
completed.

3 Door frame
Buckling of side of doorframe: (sketch 2 / 3 / 4).
The side of doorframe where hydraulic equipment is located should be inspected, and effort done to avoid
buckling during welding.

Buckled frame can be avoided by inserting wedges and if necessary using a pulley for pre-stressing the
frame. Pre-stress the frame about 2-3mm, using a 2m straightedge in the door opening (where the rubber
gasket hits the frame). Continue to check the straightness during the welding if necessary put on more force
to prevent buckling. The frame shall be straight when the welding has cooled down.

Before action is done to pre-stress the doorframe, parts of the inside welding must be done. There must be
wedges where the horizontal stiffener plates are located. If these precautions are taken, the buckling should
be avoided.

4 Rubber sealing
Cover the rubber gasket to prevent damages. Pay carefully attention during welding.
For F12 type: In order not to damage the rubber gasket at bottom of the doorblade, the welding of the
bottom plate shall be done with small intervals.

5 Outside of door frame

If necessary remove the door blade for access during the welding of the “outside doorframe”(vertical
rectangular pipe). See sketch 3.

NOTE: If doorblade shall be removed be very carefully to prevent damage on the rubber gasket and do not
let it stand or rest on the gasket.

MR and AH type

1. Tack weld door frame to bulkhead cut opening / deck

2 and 3. Tack weld outside of door frame. Remember to
prestress. See sketch 2A and 2B.
4.Complete the welding on all sides.

Very important to minimise heat. Weld only short distances

(100mm) and then change place
