To whom it may concern,

In light of S.B. 43, North Carolina’s recent Senate passage to allow concealed guns in
churches on school grounds, I am writing to discuss this bill’s threatening ramifications, taking
into consideration the community of faith-based peoples. This bill increases the likelihood of
devastating fatalities on school grounds, steering away from an inclusive, and safe religious
community that many depend on. S.B. 43 puts our school children at elevated risk of firearm
injury. There are a plethora of documented instances in which firearms have been accidentally
left behind in school bathrooms, gymnasiums, and classrooms.
This bill additionally legitimizes the expansion of weapons at school, setting a precedent
for loose gun regulation laws on school and church grounds. Law enforcement officials have
repeatedly spoken out on the issue, saying once on the scene, it becomes difficult to identify the
“good” and “bad” guys when there are firearms at play, posing the risk of injuring the wrong
person.
S.B. 43 has the potential to endanger those we care for the most. There are restrictions
we must set in place to protect and serve our school children, our church-going community, and
the individuals of our towns and nation.

Sincerely,

Corinne Rose
