NOTE : The preventive maintenance checks on High Resistance Grounding can be done only while the
Transformer is isolated and under shutdown conditions .

Procedure Technicians actions

1 Obtain a Work Permit.
Verify and confirm that the 11 kv Power to the Transformer is isolated,
locked and tagged. Put your lock and tag on the 11 kv isolation Switch.
2 Coordinate with operations. Isolate and tag the 380 v Control Power Supply
from the source.
3 Confirm isolation integrity.
4 Clean the enclosure in and out. Check wiring and cables. Look for signs of
physical deterioration. Check all terminations are proper. Check all relays,
timers, switches, indication lamps are okay.
5 Confirm all earth connections are proper, verify ground. Check insulators.
Look for cracks and chips.
6 Check resistance and record data.
Disconnect input wire to terminal R7 and restore after completion of
resistance measurement.
Record resistance between R1 and R7; confirm the same to be close to
15.11 ohms.
Record resistance across R7 and R6; confirm the same to be close to 4.31
ohms.
7 Check terminations. Look for loose nuts, bolts, and associated hardware.
8 In co-ordination with operations restore the control supply. Ensure the
Grounding Resister Cubicle is closed. Perform the following checks.
9 Confirm thee Green indication lamp for normal condition is glowing, and the
UV relay is energized. if not investigate and repair / replace the faulty
components accordingly
10 Press the test push button and verify Red pilot indication lamp glows, HR
relay actuates, and the alarm for ground fault activates on the DCS in the
Control room. Verify that the alarm activated at the Control Room .Operate
the Reset push button and normalize the system.
11 Turn the switch to pulse mode and actuate the test push button, confirm that
the PC relay is actuated in the pulsating mode.
12 Reset the system and normalize with the switch to normal mode. Complete
the entire job
13 Remove the lock and tag put earlier on the 11 kv isolation Switch
14 Close the work permit.
