Concepts

1. Equivalence – the mathematical term for any relationship in which one mathematical
entity is in some sense the identical as another. . For example, a group of 10 children or a
group of 5 books.
2. Transformation – the mathematical term for any process which changes a mathematical
entity into another. For example, we have 2 shapes. Both are rectangles of the same
length and width with a diagonal. One is the transformation of the other since it is mirror
images.
3. Conjecture – the word used to solve problems and investigate mathematics. Indicates a
confirmation that something may be true, at a stage when the necessary evidence has not
been provided to determine whether it is true or not. E.g. a child might a conjecture that
91 is a prime number. At this stage child don’t sure about this but he/she have haunch
that it might be.
