The song I am about to analyse is called Time Machine.

It has been released on the 20th of

November 2020 by the DJ Duo with the name Sub Zero Project featuring MC Stretch. The
song is an echo from the past. The song tries to make the listener remember the good old
times before the pandemic on their festivals. The song also has a music video. The genre of the
song is hardstyle and hardcore mixed with techno

The music video starts off with the Dj duo sitting in a packed garage watching the pandemic
broadcast by Boris Johnson in which he announces that all freetime activities including music
events are cancelled due to the Pandemic currently going on. Then a hammer ies into the TV
and the camera switches over to MC Strech dressed as a mechanic calling the duo out. He
then goes on to introduce us to his dream, whic is the good old times. Now the song starts
playing while MC Stretch the mechanic walks over to a machine that holds his invention. The
invention is revealed to be a time machine ( like the name of the song suggests ) in form of a
DeLoreon from „Back to the Future“. The duo enters the time machine and the song picks up
speed until the rst drop of the song. The video goes on to show parts from their music
festivals they recorded. The music slows down a bit and so does the video schowing certain
slow motion parts of the festival. This whole time the song says „ I had a dream, I had a time
machine, Back to the fun in just one beam“ making us want to be free from the pandemic
again. Then the sound picks up speed yet again on its way to the second drop. The video again
shows parts of past events where we would like to be now. The music slows down again only to
get faster again into the last drop. After that drop the music starts to slow down and quiet
down until the song ends.

The song is 3 minutes and 53 seconds long ( the music video is about 5 minutes long ). During
these three minutes the bass drops a total of three times. The song has a grand total of ve
verses that repeat multiple times throughout the song. The verses are all about going back to
the past and partying. In three of the verses the rst and the last word rhyme with each
other. All of this enhances the need of going back towards easier times.

The lyrics pair up really well with the overall song because of the voice used, which sounds
like a mechanic that built the time machine. The beats in the background also t well with
the lyrics because of the fast beats accompanying the short but de nitive verses. Many
diffrent beats are used in the song which portrays the variety of festivals in the past, which
reminds one once again of the good old times
All of the three drops sound diffrent with one including laser-kicks while the other contains
heavy bass mixed with high pitched kicks. All this togehter gets you hyped up until you „rave“
with the music. When you arrive at the end of the song you will start to feel like you miss
these kinds of festivals. The most infuencial part of the song are undoubtedly the lyrics
because they just hammer the nostalgic feeling into your brain that you have been craving for
so long. Overall this completes the blast of the past really well

The message of the song is, if it is not already clear enough, a reminder of past times where
one could party without hesitation or anxiety. This of course is not possible right now because
of the ongoing pandemic. The inability to go attend a festival of their choosing inspired the DJ
duo to make this song as a compliation of their legacy in the industry. This ongoing legacy that
they created is also the message of the song because no matter how severe the situation the
past will inevitably be a part of the future so the festivals will start to appear sooner or later
on this or next year

I chose this song because it is one of my favorites since it was released in November of last
year. But why may you ask yourself now. Fist off i enjoy listening to music with a similar genre
very much. Its heavy beats the kicks and bass is just energizing me to the point where there
is almost no day where i do not listen to one of these songs. The second reason i chose this
song is because of the reminder of the peaceful times before the pandemic. I do certainly not
enjoy the regulations forced onto us although i know that they are necessary. Based on that i
started to crave the feeling of being free from these restrictions when I came across this
song. It basically fur lled all of my expectations and became one of my go to pandemic songs
really quick. Although festivals and hardstyle music may not be to your liking you have to
agree to the message of the song. Everyone wants to live a more normal life without the
corona regulations so the message ts perfectly for the time being.

So to sum all of this up into my nal conclusion on this analysis. The DJ duo often comes up
with good songs including deeper meaning in their lyrics. Especially in this song the deeper
meaning has been portrayed really well in my opinion. The message is one one can easily agree
to so I think more people should enjoy their music. In the end the Dj duo achieved their goal
by making us remember better times where you could party without any problems.
