The Way / El Camino de Santiago

Browse the internet website vivecamino.com and try to answer the

following points. Another interesting website is caminoways.com.

1. Introduce the French Way and focus on the last 5 stages (Sarria
to Santiago).
This French born route borders around the Pyrenees and crosses
the Iberian Peninsula from east to west. Approaching Galicia by
the legendary climb to O Cebreiro.
Sarria to Santiago.
- Sarria the day stars in Rúa Maior de sarria (115.5 kilometres
to Santiago), the route moves away from the road and enters
the more rural Galicia, from one of the most beautiful
carballerias on the itinerary..
- Portomarín: the stage 25,4 kilometres, after crossing a
footbridge over the river Torres, the ascent of Mount San
Antonio begins, in the shelter of vegetation until reaching a
large brick factory situated at the foot of the LU-633.
- Palas de Rei: The pilgrims bid farewell to Palas de Rei from the
N-547 in the direction of Santiago. The road is abandoned for
a few meters to take a small detour to the right following the
signs for Curuxas.

- Arzúa: This step is a comfortable stage of achievable

kilometres and a smooth layout. One of the few drawbacks
faced by pilgrims is a need to cross, several times, the N-547
and without the aid of a pedestrian crossing. All of which
occurs in the second half of the stage. On this step the
pilgrims will pass through quiet forest tracks to encounter
small linking villages and hamlets.
- Pedrouzo : For many pilgrims a desire to reach Santiago and
complete the route will encourage them to advance quickly
through this simple stage with moderate slopes, apart from
some sections where urban pressure makes this prelude to
Santiago less attractive

2. Where are located the following places to sleep? What do you

think about prices, facilities, location, etc?

 Pensión 9 de abril: is in Pedrouzo, in my opinion the price

it’s ok because the facilities looks like very comfortable
with lift, laundry, free Wi-Fi, etc. The location is
perfect for the people wants to do the camino.
 Casa Carla: located in Barruera is a village’s house with
garden, pool, private parking. The price is 60€ per nigh.
I think the price is good, it follow the price standard.
 Pensión Rua do Peregrino: is in Sarria, looks like a very
nice place, the price is more cheaper than the last one.
 Casona de Nene: is in A coruña, the price is 56€ per
nigh, 2 people. The facilities looks like very nice.
 Casa do Maestro: is in Portomarín, the Price is 70€ per
night, is the most expensive, but the facilities are
amazing, modern rooms, cleans and very comfortable.

3. Besides the accommodation in the Camino we have just mentioned

in exercise 2, think about other general options we may find to
sleep, from cheaper to more expensive ones.
We have the famous hostel for only 15€ per night for example the
albergue SIXTOS no caminho is in Santiago the Compostela.

We can sleep in a parador, in this case, Parador de Santiago . Hostal

reis catalicos, with 5 stars and breakfast include, 202€ night. Looks
like luxury and comfortable.

4. What is the Jacobean Year?

Is a very meaningful to camino pilgrims. A year is considered a Holy
Year or jubilee when St james day, the 25 th of July, occurs on a
Sunday. This makes the Sunday mass at Santiago Cathedral even
more special than normal and extra functions take place.

5. What is the Compostela and how are pilgrims able to get it?
The Compostela is a document, issued by the ecclesiastical
authorities, certifying the completion of at least 100 kilometres
covered on foot or on horseback (200km if done by bike) of the
Camino of Santiago. The Compostela is issued to all those pilgrims
who have had the Credential stamped and thus, have demonstrated
their passage along the Camino, on a journey undertaken for religious
or spiritual reason

6. Look for the cities that biker pilgrims need to start from if they
want to get the Compostela at the end of the Camino (minimum
necessary distance for the different routes)
