COMPANY PROFILE

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is an Indian multinational technology company that


specializes in information technology (IT) services and consulting, headquartered in Mumbai,
Maharashtra, India and has its largest workforce based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. As of
February 2021 TCS, is largest company in the IT sector in the world by Market capitalization
of $169.2 billion. It is a subsidiary of the Tata Group and operates in 149 locations across 46
countries. TCS is the second largest Indian company by market capitalization. Tata
consultancy services is now placed among the most valuable IT services brands worldwide.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Training and development refer to programs designed to help new employees adjust to the
workplace successfully. In addition, they include the formal ongoing efforts of corporations
and other organizations to improve the performance and self-fulfilment of their employees
through a variety of methods and programs. Training and development have emerged as
formal corporate functions, integral elements of corporate strategy, and are recognized as
professions with distinct theories and methodologies as companies increasingly acknowledge
the fundamental importance of employee growth and development, as well as the necessity of
a highly skilled workforce, in order to improve the success and efficiency of their
organizations. For the most part, training and development are used together to bring about
the overall acclimation, improvement, and education of an organization's employees. While
closely related, there are important differences between the terms and the scope of each. This
project is based on study on training and development of executive in the TCS.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The objective decides where we want to go, what we want to achieve and what is our goal or
destination. The objective of “A STUDY ON TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT IN TCS”
is to –

1. To identify training and development needs of the employees to make


them compatible with new technologies.
2. To find the importance of training for the existing employees at TCS.
3. To determine implementation of development plans like job rotations
and others in line with approved career plans.
4. To study continuous monitoring of training and development activities
in the division/region and ensure that divisions/regions are self-
sufficient.
5. To study the various methods of training and development programme.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research methodology in a way is a written game plan for conducting research. Research
methodology has many dimensions. It includes not only the research methods but also
considers the logic behind the methods used in the context of the study and complains why
only a particular method of technique has been used. The basic task of research is to generate
accurate information for use in decision making. Research can be defined as the systematic
and objective process of gathering, recording and analysing data for aid in making business
decisions

As the project work involves quantitative analysis of secondary data, observations,


interviews, surveys, questionnaires, etc., the research is descriptive in nature, which aims at
obtaining complete and accurate information for the study.

DATA COLLECTION METHOD:

The data will be collected using both by primary data collection methods as well as
secondary sources.

(i)              PRIMARY DATA– Most of the information was gathered through primary


sources. The methods that were used to collect primary data are:

METHOD OF SAMPLING:

The selection of respondents was done on the basis of convenience sampling (Non-
Probability).

STASTICAL TOOLS:

MS-EXCEL was used to prepare pie- charts and graphs and MS-WORD was used to prepare
or write the whole project report.

Report Encompasses – Charts, diagrams

METHOD YOU WILL USE TO CLASSIFY DATA:

Data Analysis & Interpretation – Classification & tabulation transforms the raw data
collected through questionnaire in to useful information by organizing and compiling the bits
of data contained in each questionnaire i.e., observation and responses are converted in to
understandable and orderly statistics are used to organize and analyse the data.

¨      Simple tabulation of data using tally marks.

¨      Calculating the percentage of the responses.

¨      Formula used = (name of responses / total responses) * 100

Total samples of 50 respondents were contacted who responded to the questionnaires.
