Balancing Equations Worksheet

Part A - Given the description of the reaction, write the chemical equation.
Be sure to balance the final equation! T =     /6

Eg. Calcium hydroxide is produced when calcium oxide is mixed with water.

            CaO(s)   +   H2O(l)    Ca(OH)2(aq)

1. Zinc reacts with copper (II) sulphate to produce zinc sulphate and copper

ANSWER: Zn(s)+CUSO4(aq) → ZnSO4(aq)+CU(s)

2. Sodium nitrate reacts with ammonium chloride to produce sodium chloride and ammonium nitrate.

ANSWER: NaNO3(aq)+NH4Cl(aq) → NaCl(aq)+NH4NO3(aq)

3. Magnesium carbonate decomposes to produce magnesium oxide and carbon dioxide

ANSWER: MgCO3 (s)→ MgO(s) + CO2(g)

Section B-  Balance the following skeletal equations: T =    /4

4. AsCl3    +     H2S             →          As2S3         +        HCl

ANSWER: 2AsCl3 + 3H2 S → AS2S3 + 6HCI

5.         CaCO3                     →           CaO        +       CO2

ANSWER: Already balanced

6. H2SO3   +   Al(OH)3        →           Al2(SO3)3   +          H2O

ANSWER: 3H2SO3 + 2Al(OH)3 → Al2(SO3)3 + 6H2O

7.   C3H4     +   O2               →           CO2          +          H2O

ANSWER: CH3C=CH + 4 O2 → 3 CO2 + 2H2O
