OLIVIA AND NORA - SCENE 1

EXT. HIGHLAND PARK STREET - DAY

Olivia and Nora walk down York Blvd. Nora rubs her hands and
speaks with a low, solemn voice.

NORA
And if, by some twist, God allows
you to be in the same room with a
boy, keep your knees pressed
tightly together, because the devil
can fit through the smallest crack…

Olivia is dying of laughter in the middle of the street.

OLIVIA
He doesn’t sound like that!

NORA
You’re just lucky your mother
doesn't make you go to church every
Sunday... and Catechism on Tuesday.

They pass a barber shop, a Mom and Pop hardware store, a new
hipster cafe.

OLIVIA
Let’s make a pact. We’ll practice
every day before the game.

NORA
Cool, I’m down. Those scouts will
see us playing, and they’ll be
like... We want them on our team!

OLIVIA
We’ll get a scholarship to
somewhere amazing.

NORA
And win all the championships.

OLIVIA
All of them?

NORA
Oh, yeah.

OLIVIA
And a million dollar contract.

She holds out her hand, serious. Olivia shakes it.

NORA
Deal.

OLIVIA
Deal.

They burst into laughter.

OLIVIA (CONT’D)
I want to go all the way. First a
top college team, then pro, baby.

NORA
You know what I really want?

Olivia looks at her.

NORA (CONT'D)
I want to go to a Long Beach party!
Hello Long Beach boys.

OLIVIA
That long hair.

NORA
Those tans.

Cracking up, they stop in front of a tattoo parlor.

NORA (CONT’D)
Let’s get a piercing!

OLIVIA
You know we aren’t allowed.

NORA
Yeah, but by the time they find
out, we’ll already have it.

Olivia walks.

OLIVIA
My mom says she spent 9 months
making this body and I can’t make
any “adjustments” to it until I’m
21.

NORA
I don’t think your mom is gonna let
go at 21 either.

A TEXT ALERT rings. Both of them look at their phones.

OLIVIA
It’s Dante, we gotta hurry!

NORA
Tell him not to be a pain in the
ass.

Olivia writes a text.

NORA (CONT’D)
And tell him not to get his hopes
up either, you’re gonna keep your
legs together... and tight.

They laugh and walk off.
