1-1
Danger, Warning, Caution and Note statements are used throughout this manual to
emphasize important and critical information. The statement for the safety level is on the
right of the symbol. A detailed description of the safety contents is below the symbol.
They are arranged in such a format:
Danger!
Casualties or a major accident like equipment damage or office breakdown may occur if
you ignore this safety warning.
Warning!
A major or severe injury accident, equipment damage, or interruption of the main services
may occur if you ignore this safety warning.
Caution!
A severe injury accident, equipment damage, or interruption of some services may occur
if you ignore this safety warning.
Note:
An injury accident, equipment damage, or interruption of some services may occur if you
ignore this safety warning.
1-2
Danger!
Do not connect or remove any power cables when they are energized. Electric spark or
electric arc is generated at the moment the power cable contacts a conductor. In this case,
fire may occur or your eyes may be hurt.
Before installing and uninstalling the power cable, turn off the power switch.
Before connecting the cable, check that the connection cable and cable labels are
compliant with the actual installation conditions.
Warning!
It is forbidden to drill holes in a cabinet. Otherwise, you may damage the connecting wires
and cables inside the cabinet. Metal scraps produced by drilling can result in a shorted
circuit board if they enter the cabinet.
ESD
Caution!
The static electricity produced by the human body can damage the static-sensitive
components on the circuit board, like a large-scale integrated circuit (IC).
Accumulated electrostatic charges (ESC) derive from friction created by human body
movements. In a dry environment, the static voltage carried by a human body can be
up to 30 kV, and can remain in the human body for a long time. When an operator who
carries static electricity touches a component, he will discharge electricity through the
component, thus damaging it.
Before contacting the device, holding the board, circuit board or IC chip, in order to prevent
the human body electrostatic from damaging the sensitive components, it is necessary to
wear the antistatic wrist strap, and make the other end of the antistatic wrist strap well
grounded.
1-3
Laser
Warning!
Do not look at the laser beam from the optical transceiver exit or inside the optical fiber;
otherwise, your eyes may be hurt.
High Temperature
Danger!
The surface temperature of some devices is quite high, so do not touch them in case of
being scalded.
Fan
Warning!
To remove a fan, do not stick your finger or any tool into the running fan before it is powered
off and stops running, to avoid device damage or personal injury. Keep your body off any
dangerous parts that are still running.
While replacing the related parts, you must put away the parts, screws and tools properly
in case they fall into the running fan and damage the fan or related devices.
When replacing the devices around the fan, do not put your finger or any board into the
fan to avoid damage to the device or injury to your finger.
Warning!
Do not walk about right under the boom and hoisted objects when heavy objects are
hoisted.
l When disassembling heavy devices, or moving and replacing devices, you must use
the facilities with a proper hoisting capability.
1-4
l The personnel who handle hoisting should have accepted the related training and
acquired the corresponding qualifications. The hoisting tools should have been
checked and prepared fully.
l Make sure that the hoisting tools are fixed firmly onto a fixture or a wall that can bear
the weight before hoisting operations.
l Use brief commands to prevent misoperation.
Plugging/Unplugging Modules
The modules herein include boards, and subracks.
Caution!
l Wear an antistatic wrist strap during operation.
l Do not plug a module with great force for fear that the pins on the backplane be bent.
l Plug the module right into the slot and avoid contact between the module and the
circuit face lest that any short circuit occur.
l Do not touch any module circuit, component, connector or wiring slot when holding a
module.
l A running RF module is very hot. Take care not to be scaled when you plug/unplug
the RF module.
