Reference: Advisory - Significant Deficiency

District 1 Local Government Owned Bridge Inspection Program
Bridge ID: 030140 CR-846 over Drainage Canal

Dear Ms. Messam:

During the April 2021 inspection of the referenced bridge, a significant deficiency was
found that requires attention. This notice is of a previously reported condition that has
accelerated in severity over the past two inspections:

 Pile 7-1 has decay up to 19in. high x 10in. wide x 3in. deep on both the east
and west faces of the pile. This is a 14in. diameter pile but the load is now
being carried on the remaining 8in. diameter core. This reduction in cross-
sectional area significantly reduces the load carrying capacity of the pile.
There are five piles at this bent, 7-1 is one of the two exterior piles.

The bridge inspection report will recommend remediation of timber piles, including Pile
7-1. The subject deficiency does not appear to warrant a revised load rating at this time.

Should any questions arise, please contact me at the email address

Tara Rodrigues, P.E.
