Before Using Your Camera


. Beforeshmting an importantevent,be sure to take test shots to make sure
the camera operatesproperly-
. EOS cameras have a lens mount for dedicatedoperation(autofocusing,
exposurecontrol,etc.) with Canon EF lenses Using a non-CanonEF lens
with an EOS camera may not result in propercamera or lens operation
Note that the warrantydoes not cover any camera malfunctionor damage
ccurring with the use of non-Canm products

Handling Gautions
Camera Care and Storage
. The camera is a precisioninstrument Do not drop it or subject it to physical
SNOCK
. The camera is not waterDroofand should not be used in wet conditionsor
underuater lf the cameragets wet, take it to your nearestCanondealeras soon
as possible It small amounts of water splash onto the camera,wipe it with a
clean dry cloth lf the camera is exposedto salty air, wipe it thoroughlywith a
slightlydampcloth
. Do not leave the camera in places prone to excessiveheat such as in a car on
a sunny day Excessiveheat can cause the camera to malfunction
. The €mera conlains precisionelectroniccircuitry Never attemptto
disassemblethe camera
. Use only a blower brush to blow away any dust on the lens, eyepiece,mirror,
focusingscreen,film compartment,etc Do not clean the camera body or lens
with any cleanercontainingan organicsolvent For stubborndirt, consult your

. The shuttercurtainsare extremelythin Use only a blowerto clean them Be
caretul not to blow air too forcefullyon the shuttercurtains The shuttercurtains
can be easily deformedor damaged Also, when loadingand unloadingfilm, be
careful not to louch the shuttercurtains
. Do not touch the electricalcontactswith your fingers Otherwisecorrosionmay
developon the contacts,resultingin impropercamera operation
. lf the camerais not to be used for an extendedperiod,removethe battery Store
lhe camerain a well-ventilated,cool, dry place Duringthe storageperiod,press

LCD Displays
By their nature, LCD displays react more slowly at low temperatures,and may
appear dark at high temperatures The displaywill returnto normal al room
temoerature

Batteries
. Before installingthe batteries,wipe the batterycontactsto removeany
fingerprintsand smudges This is to preventfaulty connectionsand corrosion
. Neverdisssemble or rechargelhe batteries-Also, never storea batteryin high-
temperatureplacesor short circuitthe batterycontacts or toss a battery into a
tire
. Althoughihe baiterieswork well even at low temperatures,batterypedormance
may decline slightlyat freezingtemperatures In such a case, keep spare
batterieswarm in a pocket,etc , and use and warm the batteriesalternatelv
How Low Battery Levels Aflect Camera Operation
On the LCD panel,if the <X> iconblinksor it is not displayed,a properexposure
can still be obtainedas long as the shutter releases However,when the battery
level is low, film advanceand auto rewind might stop midway or not work at all
and <0> icon may blink on the LCD panel After the batteriesare replacddwith
new ones, film advancewill be possibleand film rewindcan resumeby pressing
the <O::> button
Lens Electrical Contacts
Atter detachingthe lens from the camera, put on
the lenscapsor putdownthe lenswiththe rearend
up to avoid scratchingthe lens surfaceand
electricalcontacts

After you load the film, the camera first winds the entire roll onto the camera's
take-up spool. Wth Dx-coded film, the camera automaticallysets the film's ISO
speed.Then each time a picture is taken, one fEme ot film is rewoundback into
the film cartridge.The frame countershows always numberof shols remaining.

Select a shootingmode to suit the target subiect, and the camera will be set to
obtain the best results

This mode blurs the backgroundto make the human


subject stand out
. Holdingdown the shutter buttonexecutes
continuousshooting
. To improvethe backgroundblur, use a telephoto
lens and fill the frame with the subject or have the
subject stand farther away from the background

end of a zoom lens
