reassessment intervals or to schedule the

A notional example demonstrates the
importance: Imagine a pipe of 8.38 mm
(0.33-inch) nominal wall thickness exhib-

corrosion growth rate is conservatively
estimated to 0.4 mm (0.016-inch) per
year. Assuming linear corrosion growth,
an ILI depth-sizing accuracy of ±10%

into a reassessment interval inaccuracy of

In reality, operational or environmen-

affect corrosion growth rates. Therefore,

STATS Carries Out Remote
Plug Isolation in Saudi Arabia Special to Pipeline & Gas Journal

S
TATS Group was retained by a client
in Saudi Arabia to provide pressurized
isolation of a 36-inch trunk line in the
first piggable isolation of its kind in the
region. The operator needed to replace the pig
trap launcher valve to ensure routine cleaning
and inspection operations can continue.
The 18-mile (29-km) pipeline had no valves

the pig trap launcher valve itself and the
production manifold. Kintore, Aberdeenshire-
