Course Description
 This course examines the basic theory,
characteristics, construction operation and
application of rotating electrical machines.
General aims of the course:
 To introduce the fundamentals of AC machine.
 Principles of AC machines including detailed
operating induction motor, synchronous motors,
alternators and Transformers.
 Understanding of construction, characteristics,
operation and proper application of AC machines
used in industries.

Learning Outcomes:
 At the end of the course, the student should be able to
have Knowledge and understanding to:
 Describe the construction, characteristics, operation and application
of A.C. and D.C. rotating electrical machines.
Intellectual skills:
 Solve magnetic circuit problems using formulae, certain Laws & Rules.
 Solve problems relating to generated voltage, terminal voltage, ect.
 Solve problems relating to rotor speed, flux, torque, efficiency, ect.
 Solve problems relating to synchronous speed, slip, rotor frequency,..
Professional and practical skills:
 Safely wire and operate electrical rotating machines and their
associated metering and starting equipment.
General and transferable skills:
 Explain the results of laboratory tests on various rotating electrical
machines under load conditions.

Teaching Methods
Teaching Methods
a) Lectures: There will be one lecture a week scheduled for 2
hours.

PowerPoint Presentations and hand written in the board are


using for explanation.

(b) Problem Solving : A set of problems will be handed out and


must be submitted for marking.

(c) Two Exams will be given during the semester, a Mid-term


Exam and a final Exam.

Class Policy
Class Policy

All students must be punctual. Student who absent for more


than 25% will be barred from attending the final exam.
You are expected to respect others in the class and treat
them with civility.
Talking, eating, drinking, Sleeping, etc. will not be tolerated
during the class.
Late attendance will not be tolerated and will be counted as
an absence.
Your written reports and examinations must be your own
work.

Academic Misconduct will not be tolerated.

Grading Policy
All reports and assignments must be
submitted before due date.
A penalty of 10%/day will be applied
Grading for late submission up to the 7 days.
Policy Late submissions more than a week
will not be accepted.
Success in coursework is essential to
pass the course.
