will learn and discover another lesson.

In this module, you will be differentiating biases and prejudices

In order to master this skill, you will:

a. show situations that depict bias and prejudice

b. compare and contrast ideas listened to differentiate biases from prejudices

Analyze the pictures below.

1. What do the pictures reveal about men and women?

2. Should women always be portrayed as doing household chores and men as warriors? Why?

2
Read the situations below. Think whether each situation is fair or unfair.

1. Teachers favor certain students over others in grading final performance or task.

2. Not allowing one of your classmates to join your group because he/she is physically disabled and a
waste of time.

Analysis:

The first scenario shows favoritism and classified as bias. The second shows discrimination for it tells us
unfavorable opinion and pre-judges others and that’s what we call prejudice.

Therefore, Bias means a tendency to favor one person, group, thing, or point of view over another, often in an
unfair way. It can also be defined as an inclination of temperament or outlook, especially personal and
sometimes unreasoned judgment

Example: Female teachers give more attention to girls.

While, Prejudice can be defined as a preconceived judgment or opinion; an adverse opinion or leaning
without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge; or an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an
individual, group, a race, or their supposed characteristics.

Example: It is sometimes assumed that someone who is physically disabled is also mentally disabled.

Do these activities individually. Write your answers on a clean sheet of paper.

1. List down 10 professions or duties which show biases or prejudices in terms of gender.
2. Create a dialogue showing your own experience of prejudice or bias.
3. A comic strip about biases and prejudices
