WORKSHEET # 2

Instruction: Please do the following:

1. Find journal articles that can be the source of your idea in deciding the variables to use for your
study.
2. Please identity 3 research titles
3. Under each title identify your variables, write gap that you wanted to solve through the proposed
research under each title and identify the instrument/scale/survey you will use to measure your
variables.

Here is the Format:

Title 1: “TEACHERS’ COUNSELING AND DISCIPLINARY PRACTICES OF SELECTED BASIC

EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS”

(QUALITATIVE RESEARCH)

Variables: Counselling and disciplinary practices, approaches

Gap: I justify the gap and proposed research study to investigate and explore about the adapting harsh
disciplinary methods indicates a lack of proper training in managing students in classroom situation and a
poor understanding by the teachers of students’ mental state. One of the studies reports that there are
some strategies of discipline that do not work all the time, but they work sometimes according to different
situations. Furthermore, studies on disciplinary practices in schools are well-established overseas but
limited locally. It is in this regard that this present study explored counselling and discipline practices of
selected basic education institutions.

Instruments to measure variables: Interviews and questionnaires that can be done in person or by mass
media (phone, video call or webinar).

Title 2: “CAPABILITIES OF THE SCHOOL GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING PROGRAM OF THE

SCHOOLS”

(QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH)

Variables: IV: Capabilities of the school guidance and counselling

DV: Program of the schools

Gap: I justify the gap and proposed research study to investigate and explore about the purpose of the
study was to investigate the capabilities of Guidance and Counselling program in managing students’
discipline in public school; to establish the extent to which teamwork among teachers influence successful
management of discipline in public school, to determine the scope of Guidance and Counselling services
offered in schools to enhance the management of discipline in public schools in Binangonan, to establish
the capabilities of guidance and counselling program in the management of students’ discipline, to establish
the influence of the attitude of counsellors towards guidance and counselling in the management of
discipline and to find out the influence of counselee level of participation in guidance and counselling
program in the management of discipline.
Instruments to measure variables: Likert Scale questions is that they use a universal method of
collecting data, which means it is easy to understand. Working with quantitative data, it is easy to draw
conclusions, reports, results and graphs from the responses.

Title 3: “CAPTURING CLASSROOM ADVISERS’ PRACTICES IN PERFORMING COUNSELLING

SERVICES”

Variables: IV: Use of adviser’s practices

DV: Impact of performing counselling services

Gap: I justify the gap and proposed research study was to explore the advisers’ practices in performing
counselling services. Several studies about corporal punishment have presented precautions among
parents and teachers on the child’s development. The abolition of corporal punishment created some
negative reactions among teachers. The positive discipline was not fully accepted nor implemented by
teachers and this has increased patterns of inappropriate behaviour among students. According to the
study of Stanley, it was found out that teachers still perceive corporal punishment as an effective method of
controlling indiscipline in class. The research also proven that adapting harsh disciplinary methods
indicates a lack of proper training in managing students in classroom situation and a poor understanding by
the teachers of students’ mental state. One of the studies reports that there are some strategies of
discipline that do not work all the time, but they work sometimes according to different situations.
Furthermore, studies on disciplinary practices in schools are well-established overseas but limited locally. It
is in this regard that this present study explored counselling and self-discipline practices of selected basic
education institutions.

Instruments to measure variables: Likert Scale questions is that they use a universal method of
collecting data, which means it is easy to understand. Working with quantitative data, it is easy to draw
conclusions, reports, results and graphs from the responses.
