5.3.1.2 For water

5.3.1.2.1 Before starting the test, the air must be eliminated from the pieces destined to water circulation by
repeated openings and closures of the hot water valve.
5.3.1.2.2 Connect the water feeding source to the device entrance, with its exit perfectly sealed.
5.3.1.2.3 The test pressure of 800 kPa is applied, and the stanching is visually verified in the whole water circuit.
5.3.2 Features of test gases
The test gases to be used are indicated in table A.1, complying with the following conditions:

a) Wobbe rate can range in  2% related to the value indicated in table A.1;
b) gases used to compose mixtures (test gases) must present at least the following purity degrees:

 nitrogen: 99%;

 hydrogen: 99%;

 propene: 90%;

 methane: 95%;

 propane: 95%;

 butane: 95%;
NOTE: For hydrocarbons, H2, CO, and O2 contents must be lower than 1% and N2 and CO2 contents must be
lower than 2%.
c) a mixture can be made from a certain gas that already has convenient proportions and several elements
of the final mixture, provided that this mixture presents physical properties (Wobbe rate and relative
density) similar to the ones obtained from elements complying with the previous condition.

5.3.3 Determination of nominal strength at standard conditions

The nominal strength Pn,ref, in kilowatts, must be calculated by the equation:
Pn,ref = 0.278 V0 x PCS
where:
V0 is the nominal volumetric outflow, in cubic meters per hour, obtained at the reference conditions of
o
15 C and 101.33 kPa;
PCS is the superior calorific power of the reference gas defined at table A.1, in megajoules per cubic
meter.
The volumetric outflow corresponds to the measurement of the flow of the reference gas, under reference
o
conditions, assuming the gas is dry, at 15 C, and under a pressure of 101.33 kPa.

ABNT NBR 8130:2004

In practice, the values obtained during the tests do not correspond to those reference conditions, and are then
corrected, leading to the values that could be obtained if the standard conditions existed at the injector exit
during the test.
The volumetric outflow is corrected by the following equation:

where:
V0 is the volumetric outflow at reference conditions, in cubic meters per hour;
V is the volumetric outflow obtained at humidity, temperature, and pressure conditions at the gas
consumption meter, in cubic meters per hour;
Pa is the atmospheric pressure, in kilopascals;
P is the gas feeding pressure at the consumption meter, in kilopascals;
Tg is the gas temperature obtained at the gas consumption meter, in Celsius degrees;
D is the density of dry or humid test gas, related to dry air;
dr is the density of dry reference gas related to dry air, according to table A.1.
If a humid meter or saturated gas is used, d (density of dry gas related to dry air) value must be replaced with
the value of density d, given by the following equation:

where:
W is the water steam pressure, in kilopascals, at temperature Tg

where:
e = Neper number.

5.3.4 Test on hygienic features

PCS is the calorific power of the used gas, in megajoules per cubic meter, 15 C, and 101.33 kPa.

5.3.6 Test on cover and control temperature

o
The water heater must work for approximately 15 min with nominal strength and temperature of 20 C before the
superficial temperatures are determined.
Determine the point of the device cover with the highest temperature and the control temperature by a contact
thermopar or similar device.
o o
The room temperature in the standard compartment and in the water feeding must be between 20 C and 25 C.

5.3.7 Test on burning stability

5.3.7.1 Stability with direct air current

The stability of the pilot flame burning and of the burner is tested in a horizontal air current with 2-m/s velocity,
oriented from several directions to the opening for observing flames on the heater cover. The air velocity must
be measured at a distance of approximately 0.5 m from the heater; the air exit of the fan must be at least 1 m far
from the heater.

5.3.7.2 Stability with return current

return current condition at the chimney.
5.3.7.2.2 The return current must be directly and frontally applied on the exit tip of the chimney, with a velocity of
3 m/s, measured with the anemometer close to its tip and with the device turned off.
5.3.7.2.3 The device must be operated in the full range of gas pressures and with the three test gases.
5.3.7.2.4 The flame behavior must be visually verified, as well as whether it does not reach places out of the
combustion chamber or below the height of the burner flame-holder.

5.3.8 Test on maximal water outflow temperature

In order to determine the maximal water exit temperature, adjust the outflow to the condition where the maximal
temperature raise is obtained. Then measure the water exit temperature.
