PURECO – OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WWTP – BIOCLEANER BC 4 – 200 PP, PE, SL, B
3 INTRODUCTION
3.1 GENERALLY
This instructions are intended to familiarize you with the wastewater treatment plant. Following the
instructions given herein will ensure safe and trouble-free operation of the WWTP.
If you follow this Manual, it is guaranteed the rules of safe use will be kept at the level corresponding
the currently valid safety standards, rules and right technical procedures while using the WWTP.
It is necessary to be familiarized with this Manual before you start using the WWTP. Do not carry out
any activities before you have become familiar with this service manual thoroughly and have understood
all the instructions listed in it.
Very important instructions and warnings are highlighted in this Manual as follows:
Prohibited activities.
WWTP tank – BIO CLEANER® biological reactor is formed by a plastic (eventually stainless steel or
concrete) container, which is intended to be installed into the terrain. Based on special order, a
technological built-in unit of the WWTP can be also placed into the concrete tank of appropriate
dimensions. The blower is the basic equipment for air supply, mixing of mixed liquor and pumping of
return sludge. The mixing and aeration of the activation mixture is carried out by means of aeration
elements. Forced pumping of return sludge and floating impurities from the secondary settling tank is
ensured with the aid of so called hydraulic-pneumatic pumps (air-lift pumps).
The WWTP also includes a control unit, or more precisely, electric switchboard (depending on the
WWTP variant and operation comfort), and an air blower; these components are installed near the tank,
for example to the cellar, garage, pillar, technical house, etc.
At the customer's request, the WWTP technology can also be equipped with, for example, a dosing
pump (excess phosphorus precipitation), an oxygen probe, a tertiary filter or a UV disinfection at the
outlet.
In terms of construction, the WWTP can be supplemented with, for example, a pumping pit, a septic
tank, or sludge box.

PURECO – OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WWTP – BIOCLEANER BC 4 – 200 PP, PE, SL, B
Since there are biological procedures during the treatment, supplying of substances that could kill living
microorganisms must be avoided to keep the proper operation of the WWTP.
It is NOT allowed to supply the sewerage connected to the WWTP or the WWTP tank
itself with:
- High concentration of grease,
- Regenerative softener solutions,
- Backwash from filters of household water treatment installations,
- Paints, varnish and diluents,
- Strong disinfectants, acids, and alkali,
- Wastewater from condensing boilers (having low pH),
- Rain water,
- Waste from the kitchen garbage disposal unit.
The quality of the wastewater treatment is negatively influenced by higher amount of detergents and
surfactants. We recommend to avoid doing laundry too frequently (many times during weekend). The
negative effect is shown by the pH value increase and poorer transfer of oxygen to water, which are
factors influencing the activity of microorganisms. It is better to do your laundry within a few days.
We strongly recommend using disinfection solutions which do NOT contain chlorine compounds
(sodium hypochlorite)!
However, usually used amount of detergents (during normal operation of your household) should not
affect the WWTP operation.
The WWTP inlet is mechanically filtered from larger and floating impurities (toilet paper, kitchen waste,
etc.) in the trash rack; these are necessary to be removed and disposed periodically (otherwise, the
drainage may become blocked).
To reduce the interval of cleaning the trash racks we recommend to avoid supplying the WWTP
with:

6 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
6.1 REQUIREMENETS FOR THE STAFF (COMPANIES) QUALIFICATION
To ensure people’s safety and failure-free operation, activities connected with the operating,
maintenance, and service of the WWTP must only be carried out by the staff (companies) with
appropriate qualification.
Operation and maintenance of the WWTP described in this Manual can only be carried out by people
over 18 years of age and who are physically and mentally able to practice/perform the activities
described and are familiar with this Manual.
Service of the WWTP can be only done by ENVI-PUR, s. r. o., or any other person or company
(hereinafter referred to as authorized dealer) authorized and trained by ENVI-PUR.
Children and pregnant (nursing) women must not operate or maintain the
WWTP.
To avoid possible danger and in case of need, it is possible to turn off the WWTP:
By switching off the circuit breaker in the electrical cabinet or by disconnection of the blower from
the power socket (depending on the WWTP type).
6.4.1 Generally
Although the WWTP has been designed in accordance with current applicable safety standards, rules

PURECO – OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WWTP – BIOCLEANER BC 4 – 200 PP, PE, SL, B
1. The coarse-bubble aeration element under the trash-rack basket – set to moderate aeration.
The element assures mixing of the return sludge with wastewater and aeration of the basket of
the coarse mechanical impurities in order to comminute and breakup these impurities.
2. Fine-bubble aeration elements/grate in the nitrification zone – leave the air into aeration
elements fully open. The elements ensure mixing of the mixed liquor in the nitrification zone.
3. The coarse-bubble aerator in the sedimentation zone is to be adjusted to breakup the surface
layer of floating impurities. ONLY moderate aeration is recommended. (Sludge should settle in
the sedimentation tank, so it is inappropriate to feed too much air into this zone and
unnecessarily swirl it. The aeration is used only for the purpose of breaking the sludge layer on
the surface level.) Aeration in the sedimentation zone is not always necessary.
4. Air-lift pump of the return sludge – set equal flow – about half the pipe diameter, water must not
be sprayed.
A small air leak from the air system does not affect the functionality of the
WWTP.

PURECO – OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WWTP – BIOCLEANER BC 4 – 200 PP, PE, SL, B
This chapter gives a brief description of the WWTP you should become familiar with before proceeding
with operation and maintenance.
Liquid + Air
Pumps – Air-lift pumps
In case of need, inside the Bio Cleaner ®
reactor, the hydraulic-pneumatic pump (so
called air-lift pump, mammoth) starts pumping.
The air-lift pump is a device, which utilizes the
density difference of its own liquid and mixture
of liquid and air for pumping. The function of Liquid
the air-lift pump is shown in the following
picture in a simplified way:
Air
Biological reactor is designed as plastic (or stainless steel or concrete) tank, plastic built-in installation
is placed inside. All metal parts of the construction are made from stainless steel.
Installation in the tank creates three hydraulic-separated zones:
- Inlet zone (denitrification zone),
- Activation zone (nitrification zone),
- Secondary settling area (secondary settling zone).
Wastewater is transported into the WWTP through sewerage. Removable trash-rack basket (hereinafter
referred to as the basket) with holes of approximate diameter of 16 mm is placed under the sewerage
inlet pipe. Aeration element is located under the basket to facilitate removal of the trapped organic
impurities. The amount of air under the basket is regulated manually using the separate valve. The
amount of air should be only as large as to assure sufficient breaking of the trapped impurities (e.g. toilet
paper). It is inconvenient to let excessive amount of air under the basket because there will not be
enough air for the next air system elements!

PURECO – OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WWTP – BIOCLEANER BC 4 – 200 PP, PE, SL, B
Denitrification zone
The inlet zone serves for biological removal of nitrogen pollution from wastewater in the absent
of atmospheric oxygen. Wastewater, return sludge and possible floating impurities are fed to this zone
from the secondary settling zone. Coarse-bubble aeration element provides mixing of return sludge with
wastewater; the element serves for aeration of coarse impurities basket as well. Intensity of mixing is
adjusted by control valve. Amount of air should be such that geysers cannot form on water level when
mixing.
Nitrification zone
Nitrification zone occupies the part of biological reactor between walls of tank, denitrification and
secondary settling zone. The step 2 of the nitrogen removal takes place here in the presence of oxygen.
The mixing and oxygenation of mixed liquor is provided by the air driven into the fine-bubble aeration
elements mounted at the bottom. Individual air supplies to the elements must be always fully open.
Tertiary final treatment – mechanical filter (equipment for EXCLUSIVE and EXCLUSIVE
UV model)
Mechanical filter can be installed at the outlet from WWTP to trap possible impurities escaped from the
secondary settling tank. The filter is fitted in a separate tank on the outlet pipe. The impurities trapped
on the filter or settled in the tank are pumped off automatically by the air lift pump back to the activation
system.
We recommend to check the filter once a month and, if necessary, rinse the filter manually in a bucket
with water or using the stream of clean water from a hose.
Detail description is given in Chapter 14.

Oxygen/pH probe (optional equipment for BC COMFORT, EXCLUSIVE and EXCLUSIVE UV)
The oxygen probe (oximeter) is used to control the blower operation depending on the actual demand
of oxygen in the nitrification zone. This results in a reduction of blower operation costs as compared to
the control by time intervals as well as in achievement of the optimum conditions of the activation
process.
The pH probe is suitable to install into the WWTP where no inlet of the standard wastewater is present
– e.g. the inlet of industrial wastewater. The pH probe can be used to monitor the water quality and, if
necessary, optimize the pH value in the activation process. The pH values outside of the optimum range
of 6–8 inhibit the wastewater treatment processes.
The waste water treatment plant equipped with the COMFORT Plus control unit with GSM can be
controlled using the command SMS sent from a mobile phone. In fault condition, the WWTP can
simultaneously sent notification in a form of SMS to the selected mobile phone number.
PRIM pre-tank (the WWTP complies with the requirements of class III)
The primary sedimentation tank –PRIM – is installed upstream of the actual WWTP tank. The
wastewater supplied by sewerage flow firstly into the tank that is used as a primary sedimentation of
coarse impurities. The water free of coarse impurities flows through a gravity overflow into the biologic
reactor.
Excessive sludge from the WWTP can be pumped into the PRIM tank.

UV radiation
The equipment is fitted with UV lamp that emits the C-type UV radiation. This radiation may damage the
sight, skin and possibly other organs. To prevent exposure to radiation the reactor is enclosed by cover
with a safety switch that cuts off the power supply to UV lamp once the cover is open.
To ensure the high efficiency of the UV lamp, it is necessary to check its cleanliness once a month (or
according to the load of WWTP operation) and wipe it, if necessary – spray dirt with water.
Before removing the UV lamp from its protective cover, it is absolutely necessary
to put the UV lamp out of operation by switching it off or by switching the main
circuit breaker of the WWTP control unit off.
Expected lifetime of the UV lamp is 1 year. If the lamp is used for a longer period of time, its efficiency
may be significantly reduced, resulting in a deterioration of the microbiological count at the WWTP outlet.
We recommend to replace the UV lamp after 1 year of continuous operation.
The switchboard contains electrical parts necessary for powering and operation of the UV lamp. On the
switchboard, there is a circuit breaker for switching on/off the device and the monitoring current relay,
which triggers light signalling in the case of UV lamp failure.

While putting the wastewater treatment plant into operation, the supposed optimum
setting of the blower operation has been done. Avoid changing this setting wilfully
without prior consultation with the authorized dealer or manufacturer because
improper setting may cause malfunction of the WWTP.
The electric cabinet contains electrical elements and parts, by means of which the blower is switched
on and off and opens and closes the air supply to selected parts of the wastewater treatment plant. On
the front wall of the electrical cabinet, there is a circuit breaker for switching off/on all electrical parts of
the treatment plant and the control panel of the control unit. On the side of the electric cabinet, there is

7) If the WWTP is equipped with the ComfortPlus control unit with a socket for the dosing pump it
is possible to adjust dosing on the control unit that will assume function of the digital time switch.
The necessary amount of Flocculant PAX is within the order of millilitres. As it is very low
quantity, the dosing pump operation must be time-controlled. The least time unit to be set on
the digital time switch is 1 minute.
8) Connect the pump to the socket on the digital time switch that needs to be connected to the
power socket.
In the ComfortPlus control unit with the dosing pump socket, connect the pump directly to this
socket. In this case, the digital time switch is not used.
14.4 DOSING
The table below specifies the daily doses of Flocculant PAX to obtain the resultant phosphorus
concentration of about 3 mg/l at the outlet from WWTP. The calculation considered the input phosphorus
concentration of 17 mg/l (80 % efficiency in the phosphorus removal). The actual necessary dose can
be higher or lower depending on the input phosphorus concentration.
We recommend to set the initial dose lower to consequently correct the dosed amount depending on
the analysis results. The dose should be uniformly distributed throughout the entire day.
Never dose a larger amount into WWTP than necessary! Increased doses of Flocculant PAX may
reduce improperly pH in WWTP that would result in the inhibition of the treatment processes. Increasing
dose goes hand in hand with increased production of sludge (inorganic ballast) and the need to remove
the sludge from the WWTP more frequently.

60 9.00 0.96
75 11.25 1.20

Peristaltic pump has a maximum output of 1.0 l/h depending on the distance of installation from WWTP.
After the dosing pump has been activated, the actual dosed amount of Flocculant PAX into WWTP must
be measured. The necessary dosing interval per day must be set based on this measuring.
Ex.: In the ComfortPlus control unit, the required interval must be selected according to the table in the
manual.

The pump must be OFF when the WWTP is being shut down!
The aqueous solution of Flocculant PAX is used as a coagulant. Chemical composition is specified in
the Safety Data Sheet that comes together with the supplied medium.
All the occupational measures for the work with caustic chemicals must be adhered to. In case
of contact with the skin, the affected place must be rinsed with sufficient flow of pure, potable water and
washed with soap. In case of eye contact, immediately start rinsing with a flow of cold water and seek
medical help without delay. Use the nearest drinking water reservoir. If swallowed do not induce vomiting
and seek medical help without delay. All the vessels that contain coagulant must be visibly marked with
relevant pictogram for caustic chemicals. They must NOT be confused with the packages for food and
beverages! When working near the atomizing nozzles at the dosing points and during the dosing pump
assembly and disassembly, the inflow from the reservoir tank must be stopped and the warning plate –
Work in progress on the equipment – Do not start! – must be posted on the equipment and its controls.

PURECO – OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WWTP – BIOCLEANER BC 4 – 200 PP, PE, SL, B
In order to treat the wastewater to the level specified, it is necessary to ripen the biological process.
There are two ways of biological process ripening:
Progressive ripening, i.e. inflow of waste water and permanent loading, even above the
specified technological parameters,
Import of activated sludge, so-called inoculum, from other biological WWTP.
In both cases all elements of aeration system are necessary to be opened in a right position (see
Chapters 9.1, 10.2). Aeration system, air-lift pump of return sludge and aeration of screen
basket/denitrification zone have to be in operation.
Ripening mode has been set when putting the WWTP into operation. In case of
repeated putting into operation (e.g. after a long-time weaning from permanent
operation), it must be set up again.
Mixture of activated sludge – bacteria, which get into the WWTP from intestinal tract of people – is
created in the WWTP by gradual ripening. They multiply gradually in wastewater.
When ripening WWTP with inoculum sludge, it is important to choose the activated sludge from different
WWTP that functions correctly. The sludge must sediment in correct manner. In the process of
inoculation, it is convenient to apply such an amount of a return sludge that corresponds to about ¼ of
the volume of your WWTP.
The WWTP is ripened if the sedimentation test result given about 25–30 % of sludge.
After ripening, it is necessary to set the operation time and the blower operation interruption according
to the actual substance load and hydraulic load acquired from the long-term monitoring of the WWTP
operation. We recommend to perform this activity by an authorized person or manufacturer.

PURECO – OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WWTP – BIOCLEANER BC 4 – 200 PP, PE, SL, B
The following parts of the treatment plant must be checked as a part of the inspection:
The basket catches coarse impurities and rushes paper and biologically degradable substance using
air fed below the basket into the denitrifying zone. The basket is necessary to be checked whether or
not clogged and whether its aeration is working well.
Wait until the WWTP reaches the phase C1 when the blower is on.
Check whether distinct bubbles of air go through the basket. If not, slightly increase the airflow
below the basket by turning the appropriate valve on the air distributor.
If there are larger pieces of non-biodegradable substances (plastics, rubber, textiles) in the
basket or the water level in the basket is higher than the water level in the denitrification zone,
clean the basket.
While the basket is being cleaned, ensure that wastewater is not fed into the WWTP
(do not use appliances connected to the sewerage leading into the WWTP).
Sprinkle rakings with bleaching powder or any other similar disinfectant and put
them into a municipal-waste vessel.

PURECO – OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WWTP – BIOCLEANER BC 4 – 200 PP, PE, SL, B
The air-lift pump provides removal of the activated sludge from the secondary settling zone. It is
necessary to check if it has not been blocked. It is necessary to check whether it is not clogged.
Wait until the WWTP reaches the phase C1 when the blower is on.,
Check whether there is water flowing out of the air-lift pump of the return sludge in the
denitrification zone, stream of water is uniformed and doesn´t squirt on the basket.
If not, follow the Chapter 16.
Operation of air-lift pump for return sludge implicates right operation of the WWTP.
The air-lift pump has to pump at all times, if the blower is on.
Output of air-lift pump may not be blocked and clogged.
D. Nitrification zone
The nitrification zone should be aerated equally.
Wait until the WWTP reaches the phase C1 when the blower is on.
Check whether air bubbles are evenly distributed at the surface level of the nitrification zone. If
not, follow Chapter 16.
It is appropriate to open drain valves at aeration grids in container WWTP every week to drain
any condensate. If condensate is not drained, the aeration efficiency will be reduced.
Check the injection valve of the coagulant dosing hose (PAX) to see if the solution is dosed
correctly when the feeding pump is in operation and if the solution flows through spontaneously
when the feeding pump is stopped. If not, proceed as instructed in Chapter 17. In addition, check
the injection valve for impurities (sludge) and remove them if necessary.

PURECO – OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WWTP – BIOCLEANER BC 4 – 200 PP, PE, SL, B
16.5.3 pH measuring
It is strongly recommended to measure pH once a week at least with pH indicator strips. Measure with
a sample of water from the nitrification zone. The pH value should be in the neutral range. The activated
sludge can be adapted to pH values in the range 6.5–9.0.
The removal of pollution in the nitrification zone releases hydrogen ions, reducing alkalinity of
wastewater. In the case of insufficient alkalinity, nitrification can lead to a spontaneous drop in pH to
process inhibiting values. During the inflow of common sewage water into the WWTP, there is a partial
increase in alkalinity in the inlet area and, thus, compensation of possible pH drop during nitrification.
pH-value can be dramatically and suddenly reduced with bad dosing of PAX or spontaneous escape of
solution through damaged injection valve or broken hose with solution. In this case it is necessary to
correct it immediately (change of valve or hose, change dosing setting) and increase pH according to
the following procedure. Observe safety instructions when handling PAX solution!
The inflow of wastewater with low buffering capacity (mostly in the use of "soft" water, water from ion
exchange resin treatment, rain water), wastewater containing higher concentration of ammonia or low
ratio of C:N, or in the proportion of industrial wastewater treatment plant on low pH may be a breach of
this balance. Turbid effluent from the WWTP and a supernatant during the sedimentation test can be
used as an indicator (sludge is in the form of small flakes that do not settle). If the pH value below 6.5 is
detected it is necessary to initiate dosing alkalinizing chemical (lime) into the activation-nitrification zone.
Instructions on how to do this are provided below. If you are not sure, so this problem is advised to
consult the authorized person or WWTP manufacturer.
Aids:
A bag with slaked lime, scoop, pH indicator strips (or a pH meter).
Procedure:
Use the indicator strip to determine pH value in WWTP (measured in the aerated nitrification zone). In
case of pH value lower than 6.5, scatter a scoop of slaked lime over the water level of the aerated part.
Measure pH again after half an hour of WWTP operation. If the pH value ranges within 7.5–8.0, the
dosing can be terminated; if the pH value is outside of this range, proceed analogically until you reach
pH of 7.5–8.0. The pH value in WWTP may not exceed the value of 8.5!
Measure pH in the WWTP gradually in the interval of one or two days (depending on the rate of pH drop)
until the moment when pH about 6.5 is reached. Consequently, perform neutralization to pH 7.5–8.0.
The further procedure includes dosing of the half a dose of lime than required to obtain pH 7.5–8.0 in
the half interval than the time identified during the pH drop from pH 7.5–8.0 to the pH value below 6.5.
After reaching the required pH value, check the pH value once every two weeks. If the value is near 7
there is no need for the lime to be dosed. If lower or higher values are identified, increase or decrease
slightly the dosed amount of lime. It is not possible to extend the interval between dosing by increasing
the lime dose!
If the WWTP operator has already found the optimum procedure for lime dosing the operator does not
have to dose the lime on the WWTP water level but anywhere into the sewerage system upstream of
the WWTP providing that sufficient flow of wastewater through this part is ensured.
In principle, other alkalinizing agents such as sodium hydroxide can be used to neutralize the plant.
However, the use of strong alkalis bears the risk of overdose and subsequent treatment plant collapse,
therefore caution should be exercised when determining the appropriate dose. Generally, the dosage
amount is substantially lower than that of slaked lime and is in the order of units of grams, with the
dosage interval being shorter. The advantage of this procedure is the possibility of easy dosing directly
into the toilet, sink outlet, etc. When working with these agents, it is necessary to observe the rules of
occupational safety as stated in the product leaflet.
If the mode of operation of the wastewater treatment plant changes (e.g. long-term change in load,
change in wastewater composition, etc.) it is necessary to test again and find the dose and dosing
interval, or interrupt dosing of alkali.

- Take care not to damage the reactor when handling the hose and end.
- Refill the pumped volume immediately after pumping off.
16.5.6 Sampling
Sampling and subsequent analysis of sampled wastewater will enable to obtain information about the
treatment plant function. You can do this for your own use or because it is required by the relevant water
authority. The samples taken must always be analysed in a laboratory specialized in wastewater
analysis. Normally, it is sufficient to determine the biological oxygen demand in five days (BOD (5)),
chemical oxygen demand (COD), and suspended solids (NL).
Always agree on the number and quantity of samples taken with the analytical
laboratory before performing the sampling. At the same time, the laboratory should
provide you with water sampling bottles (special bottles), in which you take the
samples to the laboratory, and detailed instructions for sampling.
Samples can be taken with a PVC bottle, which is attached to a stick of about 1.5 meter. Rinse the bottle
with clean water and allow it to dry before sampling.
Take the inlet sample directly below the inlet pipe.
Take the outlet samples from a specific object which should be placed behind the WWTP within
the project design of the treatment plant.
In case the WWTP is not equipped with the specific object, it is possible to sample from the
discharge channel or, in emergency, from the secondary settling zone.
In case of taking a sample from the secondary settling zone be careful so that floating
impurities from the water level does not get in the sample being taken. It is necessary
to dip the sampling bottle just gently under water level, otherwise settled sludge will
whirl up in the secondary settling zone, leading to result misrepresentation.
Pour the taken sample into the sampling bottle and transport it to the laboratory as quick as
possible. Keep the sampling bottles with the taken samples away from direct sunlight, the best
temperature is under 5 °C.
Generally, it is possible to take so-called point sample or mixed sample. The point sample means that
the quantity needed for the analysis is taken in one scoop. In case of the mixed sample, the quantity
needed for the analysis is gradually poured from the same smaller quantity of the taken samples in the
given time interval. As a rule, pouring of 8 volumetrically same samples taken in 15-minute intervals,
which is within 2 hours, is done.
- Taking samples and arranging their analysis based on the decision of Water
Authority are the WWTP operator’s responsibilities.
- Specified sampling and analysis can be found in the water decision. In case
of WWTP installation according to Sec. 15(a) of the Water Act (on
announcement) it is not necessary to carry out the analyses. However, the
WWTP must be inspected by a person authorized by the Ministry of the
Environment every 2 years.
Under no circumstances, the blower may be operated with a closed discharge pipe!
The blower is operated and maintained according to the supplied technical documentation. Herein, just
some of the information are included that does not replace the “Blower Operation and Maintenance
Manual”.
Before starting maintenance, the blower must always be disconnected from the mains (removing the
plug from the socket, disconnecting the circuit breaker).

The Effepizeta blower also includes a safety valve, the function of which is to protect the blower from
overheating and subsequent seizure. The safety valve reduces the air pressure in the system and it is
very important that this valve is open. Leaking air through the safety valve is a manifestation of its correct
function. Restricting the air flow through this valve can destroy the blower.
The WWTP operation is assured by the intermittent blower operation. The intermittent blower operation
is ensured by the control unit in the electrical cabinet. The individual stages of filter cleaning ensure by
gradually opening and closing of the solenoid valves, which are controlled by the control unit.
While putting the wastewater treatment plant into operation, the supposed optimum
setting programme has been done. Avoid changing this setting wilfully without prior
consultation with the authorized person or manufacturer because improper setting
may cause malfunction of the WWTP.

However, this setting may vary depending on the cleaning efficiency of the individual WWTP. The most
variable parameter is the phase C7, when it is necessary to trace the required length of filter blowing,
when the mesh is sufficiently shaken and cleaned with air.
16.7.1 Operation and maintenance of mechanical filter
Solenoid valves
The solenoid valves, which are used to clean the tertiary filter, are located in the switchboard. When the
valve is in operation, check for proper opening and closing at least once a month. A metal clicking sound
means the valve is working.
Observe the operating instructions for the solenoid valves. During the warranty period, all service work
must be carried out by an authorized person or the manufacturer.
The WWTP can be optionally equipped with a germicidal UV lamp, which ensures disinfection of the
treated wastewater from a microbiological point of view. It is located at the outlet of treated water from
the WWTP. It is put into operation together with WWTP.

PURECO – OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WWTP – BIOCLEANER BC 4 – 200 PP, PE, SL, B
The WWTP tank is installed underground and no additional thermal insulation is required for winter
operation. In winter season, it is necessary to pay increased attention to the observance of OHSAS
regulations. In particular, care must be taken to ensure that access to the equipment and objects to be
serviced is kept in working order (snow removal and ice scattering).
Before winter season, it is advisable to remove sludge from the WWTP if necessary. Suitable amount
of sludge for winter operation is about 40–50 %. In winter, the wastewater temperature in the WWTP
decreases and, thus, the activity of bacteria is also reduced. The cleaning efficiency is lower during this
period and the waste water temperature should not fall below 5 °C.
If the sewage wastewater is permanently fed to the WWTP and the blower is in operation, there is no
risk of the technology freezing.
However, pay special attention to the blower control if it is placed in a pillar or other object, e.g. in the
ground.
It is also recommended to check that there is no condensation water on the “discharge pipe” of the
blower to avoid freezing.
In accordance with the valid legal regulations, it is necessary to keep written records of the operation
of the wastewater treatment plant in the form of the WWTP Operations Log. It is sufficient to keep
the Log as a separate textbook. The following must be recorded in the Log (as minimum):
Weekly maintenance performance,
occurrence of failures,
sludge pumping off,
results of sedimentation tests,
sampling,
service and repairs,
changes in the control unit,
shutdown of the wastewater treatment plant.
If the operator does not submit to the manufacturer the WWTP Operations Log when applying
the warranty repair, the complaint may not be accepted!!!

Technological failures can be caused by the treatment plant load not complying with the design
documentation (high amount of water fed to the wastewater treatment plant, feeding of water of the
composition not corresponding to domestic wastewater or change in composition of industrial water
being fed) or by neglecting of operation and maintenance. The technological failures may show by:
Inappropriate quantity of the activated sludge (see 0),
Occurrence of white foam at the level of the nitrification zone,
Smell of water in the reactor,
Increased occurrence of impurities on the level surface of the secondary settling zone,
Increased occurrence of small flakes at the outlet,
Failure to comply with the guaranteed indicators in the wastewater discharged as detected
during sampling.

In case of higher occurrence of the floated sludge (i.e. the surfaced impurities) on the level of
the secondary settling zone:
- Check the quantity of sludge in the WWTP by sedimentation
test
- If sludge is more than 70 %, remove it. sludge
- If the sludge is less or the result is similar to that shown in
figure, it is probably an over-oxygenation of the nitrification
zone or insufficient sludge recirculation with the air-lift pump
of the return sludge. clear

- Always try one procedure first, if this does not result in remedy, try the other
one.
In all cases, wait until the next weekly inspection to see if the treatment plant
operation is improved.
If the failures have not been rectified, ask for the service intervention.
17.3.1 UV lamp
Failure of the UV lamp or its power supply circuit will result in CIRCUIT BREAKER failure. IN THIS
CASE, SWITCH THE CIRCUIT BREAKER on again. If it trips again it is possible to replace the UV lamp
as described in CHAPTER 20.8.3.
If the failure is not remedied by replacing the UV lamp, do not operate the equipment and
contact ENVI-PUR, s.r.o. or the authorized person.

PURECO – OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WWTP – BIOCLEANER BC 4 – 200 PP, PE, SL, B
In the event that no longer wastewater is fed into the reactor (e.g. during long-term holidays or in the
case of seasonal operation), actions must be taken to allow the plant to be put back into operation
without any problems.
Stopping the inlet for a maximum of three weeks (e.g. during a holiday) does not disrupt the treatment
plant operation. While the inlet is stopped, it is recommended:
For the COMFORT/EXCLUSIVE/EXCLUSIVE UV variant, set the C1 and C2 phase intervals
in P1 mode to code 0 on the control unit. Switch the PAX dosing pump off.
After the inlet is restored, remember to set the original time intervals of the phases
when the blower is on and off.
If the inlet is stopped for a long time, the plant must be shut down.
Upon re-commissioning, the treatment plant must be re-ripened – see chapter 15.

19 OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES
19.1 GERMICIDAL UV LAMP
The WWTP can be supplied with a tertiary filter with a treatment for a submersible
germicidal UV lamp, which ensures disinfection of the treated wastewater from a
microbiological point of view. It is put into operation together with WWTP.
The modification requires that the existing power switchboard is replaced with the power
switchboard modified for UV and tertiary filter and that the cables for the UV lamp control
and powering are pulled through.
The oxygen probe (oximeter) is used to control the blower operation depending on the actual demand
of oxygen in the nitrification zone. This results in a reduction of blower operation costs as compared to
the control by time intervals as well as in achievement of the ideal conditions of the activation process.
The oxygen probe setting is discussed in Chapter Chyba! Nenalezen zdroj odkazů.. Maintenance
onsists of occasional water spraying – as required. The probe is set up by an authorized person.
If it is necessary to increase the storage capacity of excess sludge and thus to extend the interval of
pumping excess sludge from the treatment plant, the WWTP can be equipped with a sludge sump. The
excess sludge is pumped from the WWTP to the sludge sump using a pump (submersible electric) or
air-lift. Settled sludge is disposed of in accordance with applicable legislation.
The pump sump is used primarily for balancing the hydraulic load of the WWTP over time (eliminates
the unevenness of the inflow) or the unevenness of the terrain. Consult the authorized person for the
use and maintenance of the pump sump.
The primary sedimentation tank (hereinafter referred to as PRIM) serves to equalize the hydraulic load
of the WWTP over time (eliminates the unevenness of the inflow). The PRIM tank also serves to reduce
the load of WWTP mainly for COD and suspended solids. It can also be used for retention of excess
sludge from WWTP (so-called sludge removal from the WWTP to a septic tank). In this case, the PRIM
tank can be used partly as a sludge sump.

The sludge dewatering equipment is designed to dewater primary, stabilized or raw activated or mixed
sludge. It is characterized by simplicity, versatility, operational reliability and low energy consumption.
Dewatering equipment can be used not only for new wastewater treatment plants, but also to upgrade
existing wastewater treatment plants. The sludge dewatering is made possible by the use of special
filter bags with the addition of polyflocculant to the fed sludge
