The Escape from Love

Love is blinding and entangles many in a web of deceptions that seems to have no escape. In a

desperate effort to hold onto what can undoubtedly end, people enter a legally binding prison of

their own creation. Many are unaware that many couples’ marriages in many societies are merely

a way for women to stay in a place of convenience. The Story of an Hour, by Kate Chopin,

exemplifies the perspective of vast expressions of feminism that can show how a women’s

identity ultimately conforms to that of their significant other due to the dominance the male

holds over her. This bitter type of relationship has brought women’s emotions into misery and

oppression and has continued through generations. During the old ancient medieval period, the

new class of people known as the middle class had been distinguished due to the ferocious war

of the Black Death pandemic. This class had changed women’s lives forever and had focused

heavily on men and devoting time to trade and other “arts”. Therefore, the voices and equality of

women were slowly cascading. This new era led to women being treated with no integrity and

devalued by being seen as property, only to be commanded by their dominance without

liberation for themselves. Unfortunately, in today’s society, this type of malpractice is still

doctrinal in some places around the world, and it has been complicated for women to be treated

the same as men.

In the story, Louise Mallard, an intuitive woman,(Appositive Sentence) was someone who

fought against the heavy burden of control from her husband and was feeling weak at times. As

she fights for the edge of decency, the silent gift of all had fallen upon her(Vibrant Verb

Sentence). While mourning the sadness of her husband’s death in the tragic accident, the

enlightenment of joy slowly started to feel like the tunnel of a catastrophe had quickly faded, and

the light of freedom was feasible. Though she would have this type of aspiration of joy, “she saw

beyond that bitter moment a long procession of years to come that would belong to her

absolutely. And she opened and spread her arms out to them in welcome”(Chopin 11). The

emotion of happiness was modish, and she knew she must prevail through the loss and preserve

towards a new chapter that will provide her path to success and attaining the bright future that

she had wanted all along.

Even though Louise and her husband’s relationship was relatively neutral, she would often

believe that any person in a marriage will still feel tyrannized by one another even if the

intentions are not meant to be. Furthermore, Louise had assumed that “a kind intention or a cruel

intention made the act seem no less a crime as she looked upon it in that brief moment of

illumination”(Chopin 12). Chopin tries to illustrate Louise’s perspective whenever she would be

in an unmatched time and trying to be optimistic at any given time without any repercussions.

This type of emotion will still have long-term effects in the relationship with Louise because she

could still feel sorrow through flashbacks and learn from those lessons for strength. While she

thought that she was uplifted from the darkness, she secluded herself from everyone who

comforted her and aroused the emotions to get over her. As Louise stares at the open window,

“her eyes, whose gaze was fixed away off yonder on one of those patches of blue sky. It was not

a glance of reflection, but rather indicated a suspension of intelligent thought”(Chopin 8). As she

is on her own journey of happiness in a room with nobody, her family, feared and worried, about

her mental and physical health as they awaited her return back downstairs(Adjective Sentence).

Time ticking, tensions risings, Josephine is startled and profoundly urging Louise to come out of

her confinement(Absolute Sentence). However, as tension climb higher than before, it was

Louise’s quest to find joy in her life which she was able to achieve. Quietly, peacefully, and

gracefully, Louise passed away by a sudden heart attack that was never sought to come(Participle

Sentence). However, she was able to obtain the impossible and leave blissful on earth.

While the oppression still continues in today’s world against the attempt to stride past the harsh

and gloomy relationships of love, women must have the courage to fight against the wrath and

create their own destiny, just as Louise did. Women must fight for equal opportunity against

men, and only then can they prevail and towards unity and success.
