Yes, the authoritarian regime committed excesses in the execution of

presidential directives and in so doing, these excesses awakened the

collective consciousness of the Filipinos which forced them to unite and
prevented the total disregard of law and order. The authoritarian regime,
sans absence of proof showing that the president made specific order to
commit a crime was accused to have been the reason of the commission of
state sponsored terrorism in the Philippines. There are tangible proofs of
government terrorism during the time of Marcos, the Supreme Court in
many cases characterized Marcos a human rights violator, and likewise
Congress also enacted laws about the indemnification of the martial law
victims. Civil for forfeitures and freeze orders were likewise issued by the
PCGG and pending cases are still pending in the Sandiganbayan against the
actors and actresses of martial law in the Philippines.

Yes, because EDSA 1 is the complete representation of oneness, community

of aspirations, response and action, in the book of Renato Constantino,

existence of national consciousness is only a presupposition, if by national
consciousness one means that sense of oneness, which comes from a
community of aspiration, response and actions. During darkest period of our
history, this is the time that the people united themselves to show their
resistance against the atrocities committed by the government, a very
remarkable but so dearly to those people of offered their very life in their
quest to possess that freedom unlawfully taken from them by no less than a
fellow, a tyrant and an Ilocano.

There are thousands of evidence showing that the government committed

atrocities during martial law years, as a matter of fact the picture below
showing the actual number of violations does not include unrecorded
incidents in the country side, kindly refer to the picture below:

There is a wide disparity of situation during Marcos and Duterte period, this
difference is the result of the fact that the people during the Marcos regime
were already mobilizing to end the era of dictatorship. During Marcos time,
massive corruption was so rampant and culture of impunity is controlling.
Simply put, there was a widespread mass actions against him. Here, as
evidenced by the surveys, the people are supporting the president despite his
short comings and his boldness to act on problem besetting the country.
Today, the people are longing for a leader whom they can report government
abuses, he is just being himself, and that is the reason why people liked him.
Chinese expansionism is a different story, the people will not question it
until and unless that they see threat to their life and limbs. Common
experience suggest, in fact this is also true to animals, that as long as no
imminent threat against them is evident, they will never retaliate and if you
show them support, in return they will likewise do favor to you. With
respect to graft and corruption, Marcos regime is 20 years, Duterte’s regime
is 6 years, so that corruption during this administration is just a part of a
huge corruption during Marcos time. To date, they heard news about
programs about graft and corruption and yet they still believe in the
president. Why, because they saw something in him which even the
president did not see in himself.
