BOGGED IN CHAD

EXT. OUT IN MIDDLE OF DESERT - MIDDAY

LUKE AND PHIL have been getting the group of 16 through

the desert for three days however, the truck has got
stuck in the sand and the two of them are trying to
figure out how they are going to get through it>

PHIL
This sand is taking its toll on
you isn't it?

LUKE
Yeah .
PHIL
1
Yeah . 1 m sorry.

LUKE
I
That s okay.

PHIL
I forgot to put the sand chains
in the truck.

LUKE
You what?

PHIL I Left the

chains behind in the shed
back home .

LUKE
You ' re not joking are you?

PHIL
No. I wish I was.
LUKE
How could you have possibly
forgot to put them on?

PHIL
I Don't know. I meant to grab
them a hundred times and then I
overlooked them and we had
already departed.
2.
LUKE
Did you think that we could just
get by without them.
He looks out into the sand storm and desert at miles and
miles of soft sand and the truck is sucken down in the
sand up to the door frames .

PHIL
No.

LUKE
Did you manage to put the sand
mats in?

PHIL
No . I don 't know.
LUKE
Well did you. Have we got the
sand mats on board this truck?

PHIL
Yes. Yes the sand mats are on
board.

LUKE
Are you sure? You said that about the
chains .

PHIL
Well I did. They behind the
spare. I'll dig them out.

LUKE
•How can you can say that they
can work as well as this chains
in this sand? You know how they
work.

He looks at all the passengers walking behind the

truck trying to push the ten tons of it through the
sand . We have all these peoples lives in our hands
. Do you realize that?
PHIL
Yes I know. It was
irresponsible.
3.
LUKE
How can I trust you again Phil?
I can't take the risk.

He grabs the spark plugs out and is rubbing them madly

trying to decide how to get of this mess.

PHIL
He hobbles over to the truck as
the sand is whipping them around
. Trust me LUKE I know we can
get out of here. Here hold this.
He throws the sand mat under the back tyre and yells
Push! Push !
All the people are pushing the truck and the wheels are
spinning in the sand.

LUKE
Jumps into the truck.

t
Step back guys . I 11 try that.

He puts his foot down on the accelerated.

LUKE (CONT t D)
Tell them to push Phil. Tell
them to push.
The sound of the roaring motor echoes across the desert and
the black smoke from the exhaust is blowing off into the
distance. It seems an impossible task to move this beast.

PHIL

Throws the sand mat in and the group push.

Sound affect Roar, Roar .

The group step back hoping that that will work .

He looks at Luke in the revision mirror .

okay LUKE . Gun it now.

LUKE
4.
Is gunning it. Slowly the truck starts to move inching
forward through the deep sand and with one last roar of
the motor the truck climbs on to hard sand.
The truck starts to edge forward.

Luke looks into the desert. The desparation on his face

tangible. He knows that this is last attempt is a matter
life or death.

the tyres .

He looks to the skies then he looks in the revision mirror

and he can see Phil hobbling along behind the truck
carrying the sand mat .

PHIL

His legs are bandaged with tropical ulcers . He jumps up

on the step of the truck.
We did it mate. We are out.

LUKE
Thanks buddy . I know we could
do it.

Luke and Phil look at the group who are now cheering and
jumping for joy running towards the truck .

LUKE (CONT I D)
