SLIDE MASTER BOMB GAME GENERATOR

DAWSON POWELL | MARCH 2019

WHAT IS THE BOMB GAME GENERATOR?
It's an extremely easy way to make a "bomb" style PowerPoint quiz game without needing to know anything
about PowerPoint. If you are familiar with PowerPoint, this is a great way to help you make games faster and
with more features.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You can make your game in three simple steps.

1. ADD YOUR PICTURES

• If you are using PowerPoint 2013 and newer, it's as simple as dropping pictures on some slides.

• If you are using PowerPoint 2010 or 2007, you can copy and paste your pictures into the placeholders.

2. CHANGE YOUR FONTS

• Change your fonts to look just the way you want them on one slide.

3. ADD YOUR AUDIO (MUSIC AND SOUND EFFECTS)

• Adding music and sound effects is as simple as replacing the blank mp3 files in the Audio folder.
Once you've completed these steps, you can make your game by clicking a button! All the pictures, audio, and
font changes you’ve made will be automatically copied to the necessary places to make your game template.

WHAT'S UNIQUE ABOUT THE GAME GENERATOR?

IT HAS EVERY FEATURE YOU WOULD EXPECT IN A "BOMB" GAME INCLUDING:
• 26 Questions

• One to five points

• Five different special items

• Prize Preview section for showing your students the prizes before playing.

YOUR GAME WILL LSO HAVE THESE ADVANCED FEATURES:

• Easy-to-use Scoreboard Slides for between two and six teams, with buttons to instantly reset points.

• Compatibility with PowerPoint 2007 and newer; no need to worry about the PPT 2010 reset glitch.

• Quickly choose specific prizes for questions in just two clicks.

• Randomly choose prizes for questions (PPT 2010 and newer).

AND SEVERAL OTHER LITTLE TOUCHES THAT MAKE USING YOUR GAME EASIER.
• Image placeholders allow for dragging and dropping of images on the slide (PPT 2013 and Newer).

• Text placeholders don't require selecting and deleting the text in them.

• Textboxes on Question Slides adjust to accept multiple lines of text.

• Question links can be returned after they disappear.

(POTENTIALLY) FAQ
COMPATIBILITY
WILL THIS WORK IN POWERPOINT 2007 OR 2010?
It is perfectly fine to start adding images and formatting your text using those versions, but when it comes
time to run the macros to make your game, you will need to use PowerPoint 2013 or newer. However, games
made with the generator will work in PowerPoint 2007 and newer.
WILL THIS WORK IN POWERPOINT FOR MAC?
I'm not sure. Unfortunately, I do not have a Mac to test this file with. My best bet would be no, but I'd like to
be proven wrong.
I DON’T HAVE ACCESS TO POWERPOINT 2013 OR NEWER. WHAT CAN I DO?
I’d be glad to run the macros for you after you’ve added your pictures and audio and changed your font
settings. Upload the POTX file and Audio folder to this Google Drive folder, along with any additional font
files. I’ll send you a link to download your game within a day.
WHAT'S THE BEST VERSION OF POWERPOINT TO USE?
PowerPoint 2013 can make your game in about a minute or less.
For some odd reason unbeknownst to me, Office 365 (PPT 2019) runs more than 5 times slower than
PowerPoint 2013 on the same computer. However, the end result is exactly the same.
As for PowerPoint 2016, I do not have access to that version to test its performance.
POWERPOINT FREEZES AFTER I START THE MACRO, SHOULD I CLOSE POWERPOINT?
No, give it time to work. It may take between 5 and 10 minutes if you are using Office 365.

EDITING
I DON'T WANT TO USE SOME IMAGES, MUSIC, OR SOUND EFFECTS. IS THAT OKAY?
That's perfectly fine. Say for example, you choose not to use an image for the background of the questions,
it will remain blank. Just make sure that you include all the important linking images in your game.
Also, don’t delete any files from the Audio or Images folders, as this can lead to errors when running macros.
I FOUND THE AUDIO I WANT TO USE ON YOUTUBE, HOW CAN I SAVE THEM AS MP3 FILES?
There are several different free apps for doing this, but my favorite is 4K YouTube to mp3.
I CAN'T INSTALL SOFTWARE ON MY WORK COMPUTER, HOW CAN I USE 4K YOUTUBE TO MP3?
Be sure to download a “Portable" version. This means you will not need to install the program to use it.
I FOUND THE AUDIO I WANT TO USE, BUT THEY AREN'T MP3. WHAT CAN I DO?
I recommend using the MediaHuman Audio Convertor. It's incredibly simple and free to use.
I CAN'T INSTALL SOFTWARE ON MY WORK COMPUTER, HOW CAN I CONVERT MY AUDIO FILES?
There are several online free services for doing this. Try Online-Convert.com.
HOW CAN I EMBED FONTS INTO MY GAMES?
It's fairly simple, just check out Microsoft's Help page for this.
Any font that you find on Google Fonts will embed perfectly in your PowerPoints.

TECHNICAL STUFF
WHY IS MY NEW GAME SAVED AS A POTX FILE AND NOT A PPTX FILE?
POTX files are identical to PPTX files with a single difference: POTX files are "template" files.
Any games made from these template files will be a standard PPTX PowerPoint file.
WHY DOESN'T THIS FILE WORK WITH POWERPOINT 2007?
Microsoft introduced new code for inserting audio files in PowerPoint 2010 that is incompatible with 2007.
This new code is necessary to embed audio files into the PowerPoint file.
WHY DOESN'T THIS FILE WORK WITH POWERPOINT 2010?
Unlike PowerPoint 2007, there is no incompatible code in the file with 2010, it crashes when trying to sort
through the hundreds of shapes on the scoreboard slides.
DID YOU TRY USING THE 64-BIT VERSION OF OFFICE 365 TO MAKE IT FASTER?
Yes. There was no noticeable difference between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
32-bit PPT 2013 runs about 15 to 20 seconds faster than 64-bit PPT 2013.
I'D LIKE TO USE OR MODIFY THIS FILE OR CODE FOR MY OWN PROJECT. IS THAT COOL?
Sure! Go ahead! I hope this can be useful to more people.
