In this current covid situation, every person and organization got affected. The work has been
affected as most of the organizations are managing their work remotely, which is impacting
the efficiency of the organization. So, to overcome all the problems and improve the work
process, the organizations are developing new strategies and plans. An organizational
development practitioner uses behavioural science to align the capability and strategy in the
system or organizations so that the employees can better work together to achieve a common
organizational goal.
Advantages of Internal OD practitioner
Internal OD practitioner knows the policies, rules, and norms of the organization and familiar
with the organizational culture so they can develop a better working environment in the
current situation.They know the organizational structure, so in the current situation of the
covid-19 pandemic, they can plan and develop the activities to be carried out in an
organization to achieve the organizational goal. Internal OD practitioner knows all the
employees of the organization, so they can govern the employees in a better way by giving
them work based on their skills and capabilities so that they can achieve their individual as
well as the organizational goals.
Disadvantages of Internal OD practitioner
Internal OD practitioners may have influenced by the management, so they exactly cannot
develop the organization in the way they want.
There is a lack of specialized skills in internal OD practitioners.
They may not have the power and authority that is necessary to control the development
practices of an organization.
Advantages of External OD practitioner
They are brought from outside in an organization, so they are not associated with the system
that makes them independent from the system. They do not get influenced by management.
They are less influenced by the power politics and authority of an organization, so they are
free to work independently for the development of the organization in this current covid
situation.
They can take the risk, so the chances for increased profitability are more.
Disadvantages of External OD practitioner
External OD practitioners are not familiar with the working culture, norms, practices, rules,
and policies of an organization, so they take more time in understanding the culture of the
organization and faces difficulty in making an organizational change.
They face difficulty in finding and receiving the data due to the lack of information and
informal mode of communication channels.
An internal OD practitioner can work better than an external OD practitioner because an
internal OD practitioner is already aware of the procedures, rules, regulations, terms,
conditions, and company norms, people, resources, and all other aspects. And they are also
associated with the organization, so they are trustworthy and cost-effective. Therefore, they
can work better in the development of organizational change compared to external OD
practitioners.

An internal OD practitioner will handle the situation according to the company's policies and
practices, while an external OD practitioner will handle the situation based on his past
experiences.
