AKO/DKO Profile Photo Guidelines

Overview
As of December 2008, AKO/DKO users are able to upload a photo to be displayed on their profile page.
The image is also displayed in the information that is displayed in association with individual user IDs
(e.g., when the cursor hovers over a username in the files area). Because the image is intended to help
other AKO account holders identify an individual, the photograph must clearly show the face.

Photo Guidelines
Eligibility for use as a profile photo is governed by the following requirements:

Content: Inappropriate photo content is described as, but not limited to, the following:

 An image of more than one person


 An image of a person under the age of 18
 Nudity
 Hand gesture(s) or facial expression(s) that represents gang involvement, vulgarisms or
racial epithets
 Obvious digital manipulation of the image
 Images that obviously do not provide a fair appearance representation of the account
holder (e.g., images of children or cartoon characters)
 Images of, or references to, sexual act(s) and/or the elimination of bodily waste or
fluid(s) (including saliva)
 A gratuitous pose or posture
 Clothing that reveals more than would be appropriate for standard DoD office attire
 Content that depicts or implies any illegal act
 Content that displays, implies, references, or describes religious or political beliefs
 Content that displays, implies, references, describes, or incites a violation of any Army
policy or regulation
 Information presenting an OPSEC vulnerability
 Avatars or other incarnation, embodiment, or manifestation of a person
 Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
 Embedded content such as text or sub-images whose content is not appropriate under
these guidelines

Technical Specifications – The uploaded image must be:

 Be saved in the .jpg (.jpeg) format


 Measure 60 x 80 pixels.
Enforcement
By uploading a photograph users warrant and represent that ownership of said image. Ownership is
defined as having all rights required for uploading the image onto AKO for display.

By uploading an image to AKO/DKO, users are granting AKO/DKO permissions to use the photograph in
connection with the operation of the business. Such purposes include, but are not limited to, the right to
copy, distribute, transmit, publicly display, reproduce, edit, reformat or remove the submission; and to
publish the user name in connection with the photograph. No compensation will be paid with respect to
the use uploaded profile images. AKO/DKO is under no obligation to post or use any submission deemed
inappropriate. Any submission can be removed at any time per AKO/DKO’s sole discretion.

Infractions pursued by AKO/DKO under this procedure will carry the same sanctions and recourses
available as if the infraction was pursued as a violation of the Terms of Use/Terms of Service
(TOU/TOS).

AKO/DKO users may report inappropriate images or copyright infringement to the AKO/DKO Help Desk.
