CHAPTER I

Executive summary

The Philippines is a developing country that continues to grow as it benefits from other

rich countries that help boost the economy and other major factors in the Philippines. A major

contributor to the country’s growth comes from its airlines as it brings tourists in the country and

provide transportation for Overseas Filipino Workers(OFWs) and Filipinos who intend to travel.

The quality of comfort of the passengers must always be kept high but problems such as nearby

cheap places to sleep and spend the night causes stress for the passengers. Scheduled Flights that

are too early can be quite difficult to catch if you’re all alone or if you live far away and the only

choice is to commute.

There are lots of hotels near airports but only those who has lots of money enjoy these

services. Others, who only have enough money for food often just stays in the nearest hostels or

maybe just spends the night in the airport itself. Hostels may be a cheaper way to rest in but it is

usually quite dirty and the services are pretty much non-existent. This problem has been a major

headache for constant travelers and even airport officials.

The “Sleeping Pods” is the solution to this problem. It is a hybrid between a hotel and

hostel which offers hotel quality experience but at prices similar to that of hostels using escape

pods as rooms. It aims to provide all of this in just a single floor in order to have less footprint to

be more environment-friendly. This business is open to everyone but is best for low-budget

individuals who are also open to socialize. The facilities mentioned includes a laundry/dry

cleaning room, restroom and shower room, and for socialization and recreation, a

common room available for all customers. The sleeping pod is a pod-shaped hotel room

with an area similar to that of a single bed, with sufficient height for a hotel guest to

crawl in and sit up on the bed. The walls of the pod will be made of fiberglass but with a
foundation made of metal, for stability. This pod offers amenities such as bed, small

television, air conditioning, an electronic console, and power sockets. The concept of this

business is derived from Japan’s capsule hotels. This business mainly focuses on the

needs of travelers, commuters, and tourists who cannot or do not want to pay for hotel

accommodations. Founded on January 7, 2020, Sleeping Pods started operating on March 31,

2020. It is located near the NAIA Terminal 3 because it is the most applicable location for the

business. It is solely owned by a young aspiring businessman and traveler.

Sleeping Pods is a hit for everyone. Not only is it visited by travelers but also people that

came to experience the pods and it’s sci-fi vibe. Due to the constant positive feedback from the

business, the Sleeping Pods’ sole owner seeks to expand to other areas near airports to further

provide quality experience for everyone.

The business is named “Sleeping Pods”. It is a hybrid between a hotel and hostel which

offers pod shaped rooms with dimensions a little over the area of a single size mattress. It offers

hotel quality experience but at prices similar to that of hostels. It aims to provide all of this in just

a single floor in order to have less footprint to be more environment-friendly. The concept came

from Japan’s capsule hotels. This business is open to everyone but is best for low-budget

individuals who are also open to socialize. The business can be opened anywhere that has enough

space together with the partnership between the business owners and the building owner. This

idea came to mind due to the reason that lots of individuals struggle to find a cheap but nice place

to spend the night on many areas in the country.
