are as follows:
Danger!
Indicates an imminently hazardous situation, which, if not avoided, could result in death,
serious injury, or serious equipment damages.
Warning!
Indicates a hazardous situation, which, if not avoided, could result in serious injuries,

1-4
l Keep the equipment room clean, and in normal temperature and humidity.
l Keep the equipment room away from dust and moisture. Take measures to keep
insects and rodents away.
l Make sure that the primary power is stable and reliable. Check the system grounding
and lightning ground periodically. Check the lightning protection system before and
after storms.
l Establish a complete set of maintenance regulations. The maintenance engineers
must take detailed maintenance logs about the system operation, software version,
configuration change, upgrading and troubleshooting for fault analysis and solutions
in the future.
l It is prohibited to play games or access the Internet on the terminal. It is forbidden to
install, run, or copy any irrelevant software on the terminal.
2-1
l Set the NMS passwords with different access rights. Change the passwords
periodically. Only the authorized personnel have the access rights.
l Maintenance personnel should be well trained and should have sound experience of
computer networks, and are willing to study further to improve their maintenance skills.
l Maintenance personnel should follow the relevant manual to perform maintenance
operations. They need to wear antistatic wrist straps before touching the hardware of
the equipment.
l Do not reset the equipment, load or change any data, especially the NE data unless
it is necessary. Back up the system configuration data before any change is made to
it and do not delete the backup configuration files until the system is running normally
(Generally after a week). It is necessary to record any change made on the data in
time.
l Prepare a toolkit and calibrate the meters regularly to make sure that they are working
properly. The following tools are often used:
à Screw driver (straight, cross)
à Signaling tester
à Thin nose bent pliers
à Network cable pliers
à Multi-meter
à AC power for maintenance
à Power extension lines and sockets
à Telephone cables
à Network cables
l Check the spare parts regularly. Store the spare parts and replaced faulty components
in different cartons and label them for identification.
l Keep the software and documents in good conditions and keep them at an easily
accessible place.
l The equipment room should be well lightened for maintenance. In case of power
failure, make necessary emergency arrangements.
l Put the contacts of the local office of ZTE Corporation at a noticeable place. Contact
the local office in case of emergency.

Related Information
The virus often cause the NMS server to run abnormally or break down. Therefore, it’s
necessary to detect virus periodically.
Detecting Method
l Scan the system every week.
The virus scan tools such as Norton Antivirus or MacAfee are recommended. They
can scan virus and update periodically.
l Do not use the floppy disk drive or CD drive to perform read or write operations which
are irrelevant to maintenance.
l Make sure the floppy disk or CD is free of virus if you have to use it on the PC.
Normal Result
There is no virus or the virus can be deleted normally.
If there is any virus which cannot be deleted normally, update the antivirus database or
antivirus software timely.

Steps
To expand the capacity, perform the following steps:
1. Expansion preparation
Confirm that the optical resources are enough for the expansion. If the resources are
not sufficient, negotiate with the operator. Otherwise, the service cannot be available
even the expansion is completed.
2. Confirm the NE version.
If the NE version is compatible, perform the next step directly. If the NE version needs
to be upgraded, upgrade the NE version first. For NE version upgrade, refer to the
chapter Version Upgrade.
3. Backup NE data and versions.
4. Expand a card.
4-2
Cooperate with the operator’ personnel and the construction personnel to install the
device and give necessary installation guidance. Attention not to damage the pins on
the backplane or other components.
Note:
You need to wear the anti-static wrist strap.
You need to be more careful with the fiber pigtail and power.
5. Upload a card.
If you are at the locale, you can connect the device through the serial port. Use the
command to add a card. If you are not on the site, you can add a card on the NMS
remotely.
6. Configure the related services.
Note:
Before you perform these operations, you need to make sure that your operations will not
affect the service. You cannot restart the NE or perform any operation which may affect the
service if you have not obtained the technical support or the approval from the operator.
4-3
4-4
Note:
If the service cannot be transmitted from the previous device to the new one, it is necessary
to switch the service back to the previous device immediately. Make sure that the service
can be restored in a certain period.
5-1
Preliminary Survey
The preliminary survey before the cutover includes the following:
l Communicate with the technicians from other related equipment manufacturers. Make
sure everyone is aware of the purpose and the significance of the cutover. Cutover is
not the best choice if there are other easier methods to deal with the existing problems.
5-2
l Do the on-site survey thoroughly. Confirm that the conditions for hardware installation,
the optical line resources (for uplink and downlink) and the upper-layer device
resources are sufficient.
l Fully be aware of the detailed networking situation of the cutover service.
l Specify the related departments and supervisors for each node in the network
concerned.
Caution!
Prohibit any unauthorized or illegal operation. The execution of any plan and the
processing of unexpected events must be implemented with the formal approval of the
operator and the technical support.
Implement Cutover
To implement cutover, perform the following steps:
5-3
5-4
Restoring Workflow
Restore the services to the previous system if the cutover fails. Figure 5-2 shows the
restoring workflow.
Steps
To restore the service, perform the following steps:
1. Observer the card status
Observe LED status on cards and take a record.
2. Observer NMS alarms.
Observe alarms on NMS and record alarms, especially service alarms. Avoid the same
fault when restoring services.
3. Check and power on the previous system.
Power on the previous system and have a check. Restore services after the system
works normally.
4. Restore the service.
5-5
5-6
