Questions:

Q1 [25 point]. In Figure 1 (a), a non-conducting rod is shown as a half-circle with uniformly
distributed charge of +Q and radius R. In Figure 1 (b), a particle is shown with its charge +Q as well.
Let the electric field of the half-circle at its center P be Earc in Figure 1 (a). Similarly, call the electric
field of the particle at point P at a distance R as Eparticle in Figure 1 (b). Find Eparticle/Earc that is the ratio
of magnitudes of electric fields.

Q2 [25 point]. In Figure 2, a solid sphere of radius a = 0.02 m is located inside a concentric and
conducting spherical solid shell of inner radius b = 0.04 m and outer radius c = 0.05 m. The solid
sphere has a uniformly distributed charge of q1 = 5 x 10-15 C, while the spherical shell has a uniformly
distributed charge of qshell = -8 x 10-15 C.

a [10 point]. Find the electric field at a distance r = 0.01 m away from the center.

b [15 point]. Find the electric field at a distance r = 0.045 m away from the center.

Q3 [25 point]. In Figure 3, a thin plastic rod of length L= 0.12 m is shown with uniformly distributed
positive charge Q =56.0 C lying along x axis. Find the electric potential ratio (VP1/VP2) for point P1 on
the x-axis and for point P2 on the y-axis (take d = 0.05 m and D = 0.15 m).

Q4 [25 point]. In Figure 4, a battery has a potential V = 10 V and the circuit has seven capacitors
connected either in parallel or series. Each capacitor has the same capacitance of C = 10 × 10−6 F.

a [15 point]. Find the equivalent capacitance on this circuit (Ceqv).

b [10 point]. Find the charge accumulated (stored) on C2.
