Exercise
1. A block weighing 200 N rests on a plane inclined upwards to the right at a slope of 4 vertical to 3
horizontals. The block is connected to a cable initially parallel to the plane, passing through the pulley
and connected to another block weighing 100 N moving vertically downward. The coefficient of kinetic
friction between the 200 N block and the inclined plane is 0.10. Determine the acceleration of the
system.
2. A car travels on the horizontal unbanked circular track of radius r. Coefficient of friction between the
tires and the track is 0.3. If the car’s velocity is 10 m/s, what is the smallest radius it may travel without
skidding.
3. A highway curve is superelevated at 7°. Find the radius of the curve if there is no lateral pressure on
the wheels of a car at a speed of 40 mph.
