Design and Analysis for Wooden Floor Joist :

Design Load :

Live Load = 2,400 N/mm²

Dead Loads:
Wooden flooring ¾” plyboard = 150 N/m²
Electrical Load = 250 N.m²
Ceiling Load = 100 N/m²
Total Dead Load = 500 N/m²

Load Combination ; U = 1.4 DL + 1.7 LL

U = 1.4 (0.50) + 1.7 ( 2.40) = 4.78 KN/m² Floor joist spacing = 0.40 m

U = 4.78 KN/m²( 0.40m) = 1.912 KN/m

Solving for Moment :

Moment = U (L²) = 1.912 ( 0.60)² = 0.086 KN-m = 759.11 lbs- in

Apitong Lumber Properties :
Fb = 1,600 psi Fc = 1,600 psi E = 1,800,000 psi
Fv = 110 psi

Using Section 2”x 3” Apitong Lumber or any equivalent of the same property

Fb = 6M/ bd² = 6 (759.11) = 253 psi < 1,600 psi safe

2( 3² )

Check for Deflection : deflection allow = L/ 360 = 0.60 ( 39.36 inch) = 0.07 inch
360
3
Actual deflection = 5 U(L) I = bh = 4.50 inch
384 E I 12
By Substitution :

Actual deflection = 0.006 inch < 0.07 inch safe

Therefore the section is safe and recommended for use.
