Colla parte Discussion: In the example below, for which instruments is the “colla
parte” written? Which instrument does not have “colla parte” written?

False (cross) relation Discussion: The following are examples of false (cross) relations.
Describe the voice leading in your own words in the following example.

To avoid unwanted cross relations, make sure that any chromatic


inflection occurs in the same voice.

There are also instances where cross relations are acceptable. This is
when the 2nd of the 2 chords involved in a cross relation is a 7th
chord.

Definition: A chromatic inflection that occurs in a different voice at a


different octave level. The effect can be quite jarring if not properly
used.
