Lesson: Conditionals in songs and movies
Type of lesson: consolidation: acquiring new vocabulary; practising listening, reading
comprehension and communication skills.
Skills: reading, speaking, listening, writing
Techniques: reading aloud, question and answer exercise, conversation, fill-in-the-blank,
exercise, dialogue.
Organization: individual work, pair-work, whole class.
Materials: textbook, notebook, board, laptop, projector, flipchart, hand-outs.
Aims: By the end of the lesson Ss will be able:
A1. to practise listening comprehension in short videos and songs
A2. to recognise Conditionals Type 0,I,II,III, in songs and movie scenes.
A3. to correct errors in given examples of If Clauses.

Timing: 50’
PROCEDURE
Warm-up Interaction: T-Ss Timing:
Speaking 6’
 The T greats the Ss and asks them how are they feeling.
 The T checks the homework orally encouraging Ss to correct themselves when
necessary.

Lead-in Interaction: T-Ss Timing:


Listening 7’
 The T plays a short video from the cartoon “Hercules”. At first the video is without
subtitles. The T asks the Ss to recognise the Conditional sentences and name the type
of conditional. Check the answers with the subtitled movie.

Activity 1: Interaction: T-Ss Timing:


Listening, speaking, writing 15’
 The T asks the Ss to pay attention to the video. There are various sequences from
modern songs containing different types of Conditional sentences. The Ss are given
strips of paper with the lines from the songs. They have to listen very carefully and
raise their hand when they hear the line on their strip. They have to recognize the type
of Conditional.
 The T asks the Ss to pay attention to the flipchart. There are some lines from the
songs that they listened to, containing some errors. The Ss have to find the errors and
correct them, writing down the sentences.

Activity 2: Interaction: T-Ss, S-S Timing:


Reading, listening 10’
 The Ss are asked to pay attention to a scene from the movie “Benjamin Button”. They
must recognise the type of conditional used in the scene.
 The T gives the Ss some strips of paper containing halves of Conditionals from the
movie. The other half is on the flipchart. They have to match the halves.
Feedback: Interaction: T-Ss, S-S Timing:
Writing 10’
 The T gives the Ss hand-outs with exercises concerning the grammar topic. They are
encouraged to work in pairs and solve the exercises. This gives the T the opportunity
to circulate and help the Ss if necessary.
 The T conducts whole class feedback, eliciting answers from individual Ss.
