Speakers’ names Ardila Fabián
Payares Juan

Speaker’s position (Affirmative)

Greeting and Introduction
Good evening chairperson, opposition and audience.

We are Fabian Ardila & Juan Payares and the topic for today's debate is “Keeping all your
data in the cloud – is that smart?”

Outline your team's case:

a) Your points:
I will be speaking about the positive things about keep all our data in the cloud.

● Have access to our data on all side just whit internet.

● Keep our data in a safety place.

● Easier way to share or data.

b) Second speaker's points:
Our second speaker will be talking about negative things about keep all our data in the
cloud

● Downtime: Your Internet access going down

● Security: Cloud computing is about as secure as leaving your laptop open at a

coffee shop.
● Cloud Service Closes Shop: There is a possibility that your cloud provider will run
out of money and close their doors forever.
Your First Point
State your argument:
My first point is “Have access to our data on all side just whit internet”.

What's the information that supports your argument?

The fact of keep a copy of our data in the cloud allow us to access to this on every moment we need or want
without have the need of keep on us an external hard drive or USB if the files doesn’t occupy to much space on
disk.

Give examples, facts, figures, etc.:

Have access to the projects or documents and work from other place like and coffee shop, the house of a friend-
parent or work from another city/country/continent.
Your Second Point
State your argument:
My second point is “Keep our data in a safety place”.

What's the information that supports your argument?

Now days we have the possibility of work from home and this create the need of have copies of the files that we
manage, sometimes that files contain important information, for this case we need keep those files safe of
corruption or loss, and make a regular copy of that files in a cloud like Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive is
necessary.

Give examples, facts, figures, etc.:

The copy of an important report or in our case the copy of a evidence for the teacher.

Your Third Point

State your argument:
My third point is “Easier way to share or data”.

What's the information that supports your argument?

The fact of have a copy of our documents make easy to share them, in the major part of
cases we just need to get the link of the folder or file and copy it to give to all we need,
or, if both persons have the same cloud service, we cand share directly the file without
need copy those files on an eternal disk.

Give examples, facts, figures, etc.:

Share a clip, movie, PDF, Ms Office file or an entire application from Google Drive, Dropbox, Etc.

Closing statement
Chairperson, opposition and members of the audience, in conclusion the fact of keep in
the cloud makes easy to share, have access and keep safe our data, of course if we
manage them responsibly.

Second speaker guide

Speaker’s position (Affirmative/Negative)

Expressing disagreement with first speaker’s arguments

I disagree on keeping all your data in the cloud because ….

Why do you disagree with first speaker’s points?

Briefly State the Points You Will Make

Today I will be talking to you about:

● Downtime: Your Internet access going down

● Security: Cloud computing is about as secure as leaving your laptop open at a

coffee shop.
● Cloud Service Closes Shop: There is a possibility that your cloud provider will run
out of money and close their doors forever.
Your First Point
State your argument:
My first point is downtime

What's the information that supports your argument?

Downtime, what is perhaps the single greatest disadvantage of cloud computing. We’re
not talking about server downtime, but your Internet access going down.
As long as your Internet access is out, you can’t do anything with the cloud.

Give examples, facts, figures, etc.:

Cellular service often remains viable when internet access and even power goes out. Of
course, data plans are capped and mobile devices have limited battery life.

Your Second Point

State your argument:
My second point is Security

What's the information that supports your argument?

Security, at one level, is an advantage of cloud computing, cloud providers are under way
more scrutiny and must comply with established standards.
Security is also a disadvantage at a different level, think of it this way if your home has
door locks, a security system, and security cameras, the infrastructure to stay safe is all
there, keeping your home safe requires actually locking your doors, arming the security
system and keeping the cameras turned on.
The user is the weak link in almost all security systems.

Give examples, facts, figures, etc.:

If you don’t use basic digital security methods, cloud computing is about as secure as
leaving your laptop open at a coffee shop.

Your Third Point

State your argument:
My third point is Cloud Service Closes Shop

What's the information that supports your argument?

Cloud computing is a young industry with lots of companies vying for business. There is a
possibility that your cloud provider will run out of money and close their doors forever.
The more important the cloud is to your business, the more devastating a sudden
provider shutdown will prove.

This problem is magnified by the issue of cloud vendor lock-in, where migrating from one
cloud vendor to another is difficult and expensive.

Give examples, fact, figures etc.:

Think of it like renting a warehouse and filling it with merchandise. Once you have all of
that merchandise stored in there, it’s a logistical nightmare to move it.
Now imagine how difficult things would get if you lost access to the warehouse when the
warehouse’s owner went bankrupt.

Closing statement
Chairman, opposition and members of the audience, in conclusion when weighing the
cloud computing advantages and disadvantages, it’s important to keep the sources of
those pros and cons in mind. Cloud service providers are responsible for just about every
advantage. The same isn’t true for the disadvantages.
Cloud providers can’t control when your Internet access goes down. They can only exert
limited control over your personal digital security habits. As for the providers closing
shop, it’s always best to choose companies that have an established track record.
