Firstly, allow me on behalf of Vietnam National Textile & Garment Group to extend my
sincere thanks to all distinguished guests, exhibitors, manufacturers and suppliers of textile
and garment equipment and accessories, as well as domestic and foreign businesses to the
Opening Ceremony of the 18th Saigon Textile and Garment Expo in Ho Chi Minh
International Exhibition and Convention Centre. The exhibition has received great support
from Vietnam Ministry of Industry, Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association, and it is
co-organized by Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group, Vietnam Chamber of
Commerce and Industry, and CP Exhibition Hongkong.
The exhibition this year covers an area of 12.000 square meters - increasing to 50% of area
compared with the same exhibition last year, has attracted 395 manufacturers and traders
coming from 27 countries and territories in the world. It is to introduce to visitors
advanced equipments and accessories used for the textile and garment industry. It is our hope
that the exhibition will facilitate the closer business ties between domestic and foreign
businesses. It is also a good opportunity for Vietnamese manufactures and traders to make
their investment choices and to get access to the most advanced technology and equipment.
By this way, it helps to bring Vietnam textile and garment industry to the regional and global
development level.
Vietnam textile and garment industry entered the year 2008 with a lot of difficulties and
challenges. Free trade in textile and garment industry makes the competition harsher in the
world market. Vietnam has faced strong competition coming from world’s biggest textile and
garment manufactures such as China, India, Pakistan, ect …In order to further develop in this
context, Vietnam textile and garment industry in general and Vietnam National Textile and
Garment Group in particular, have to continue realizing the strategy of speeding up
investment in the textile and garment industry, which was approved by the Government. It is
also essential to implement the policy of step by step moving pollutant factories into
industrial parks, leaving a green and clean environment for the city centre. Moreover,
cooperation with provincial authorities is promoted to create more jobs for labourers, as well
as to push up export. Further investment in advanced equipment is needed to create a source
of high quality fabric, meeting export demand. Besides promoting the equization, Vietnam
National Textile and Garment Corporation also encourages other types of business such as
joint-venture, foreign direct investment in fabric and textile manufacturing, printing and
dyeing, accessories producing. Vinatex is establishing Centres of trading and supplying
accessories in Hanoi and Hochiminh City. Those efforts aim to make Vietnam become an
attractive destination to not only exhibitors, investors, but also textile and garment
producers and importers, and to make Vietnam be one of the worlds’s leading textile and
garment manufacturers and exporters.
On this occasion, may I, once again, convey my sincere appreciation to leaders of Ministry of
Industry and Trade, Ministry of Planning and Investment, People’s Committee of Hanoi
City, HoChiMinh City People’s Committee, other provinces and cities, governmental
departments and agencies, the Consular corps and trade commissions, representatives of mass
media for share your presence with us at the Opening Ceremony of Saigon Textile and
Garment Expo 2008. May I wish you all good health and every success.
