How to replace RAM and Disk
drive
Also, can be used to remove hard drive
[CAUTION]
Modifying a laptop hardware wise (physically) dose invalidate warranty
And would not recommend to anyone that does not want a chance to ruin
their laptop, it is very delicate.
And do not do this on a live computer, do this on one that is turned off
As well as all replacement parts need to be supplied by you.
how to modify a laptops Hardware
1. To modify a laptop, flip it on its back so the vents and grip are facing up and the keyboard to
facing down.
2. Identity all screw locations, these can be found anywhere, on the sides, on the bottom and
even under the grips, you want to find all the screws before you start so to don’t ruin your
hardware by trying to do stuff the fast way.
3.5Before you go further consider what you are doing, this is very
dangerous, and you must consider the damage you could do.
4. Unscrew the screws, store them in a safe accessible location, you are going to need
them soon, and remove the case, it may be hook on by the sides, remember where it
hooked in
5. Once removed, you are able to change and modify 3 things
- Hard drive/disk drive
- RAM
- Video/sound card
I would help with the video card, but it is far more complex than the other 2
6. Identify the components you want to change (things will be different depending on
your laptop)
7. [NOTE] Steps 8-9 will handle RAM and Steps 10 – 14 will handle
the disk drive
8. To first remove the already existing RAM, pull the pins holding the existing out/up,
this will change for every laptop so be careful, after done, remove the RAM, by
sliding it or pulling it out, Be very careful
9. Next put your replacement RAM in do the reverse of taking the RAM out, put it in,
whether by sliding or placing it and clip it into position.
The RAM is finished
10. Now the Hard drive/ disk drive, you will notice that the hard drive has a soft case and
connecting wires, please unplug the wires that are connected to the hard drive
11. Now we have to take out the hard drive, please slowly remove the Disk drive
12. Now you want to remember which way the Disk Drive went in and take it out,
carefully and slowly (now some hard drives may not have a case if so, don’t worry
about steps 12 and 13)
13. Now you have to put your replacement disk drive into the soft cover of the hard
drive
14. And how you saw and remembered, put the replacement in the same place and the
same way as the other one
15. Now connect the wires that were attached to the disk drive into your new disk drive.
