ASSESSMENT TASKS 1

Jodinel, a gifted high school student, wants to become a lawyer in the future. Because she

comes from a poor family, she needs a scholarship in order to attend college. Some of her classes

require students to do extra research projects in order to get an A. The school has a few older

PC's but there are always long lines of students waiting to use them during the school day. After

school, she usually works at a part-time job to help support her family.

One evening Jodinel visits the library of a private college few miles from her family's

apartment, and she finds plenty of unused PC's connected to the Internet. She surreptitiously

looks over the shoulder of another student to learn a valid login/password combination. Jodinel

returns to the library several times a week, and by using its PC's and printers she efficiency

completes the extra research projects, graduates from high school with straight A's and gets a full

ride scholarship to attend a prestigious university.

For me, Jodinel didn’t have an unfair advantage over her high school classmates, she just uses

her knowledge and skills to achieve and to accomplish her task on making research projects,

even though it is wrong to use other people things without asking permission to the owner of the

private school.

5. Would any of your answers change if it turns out Jodinel did not win a college scholarship

after all and is now working at the Burger Barn?

No, my answer will never be change if Jodinel didn’t get the college scholarship, since in the

beginning of the scenario she already works as a part-time worker in Burger barn, the worst part

is using the property of the school where she didn’t tend to enroll, without thinking precaution if

she will be caught of the authority of the school, and it will give her a hard time to achieve her

goal.

6. Are there better ways Jodinel could have accomplished her objectives?

Yes, Jodinel can ask help to the owner of the Burger Barn where she is doing her part-time job,

to understand her situation as a student, and adjust the time-in and time-out of her work, so that

she can make more time to do her research project, to finished it as soon as possible to get

straight A’s and to get a full ride scholarship.
