VEHICLE EMMISSIONS - Consider riding a bike or walking instead of driving if you are only
going a short distance. While getting where you need to go, you can get some exercise and
enjoy the fresh air. Use renewable energies instead of regular gasoline or diesel because they
are cleaner. Electric vehicles and flex-fuel vehicles that can use ethanol blends are examples of
alternative fuel vehicles. Diesel engines are both long-lasting and effective. They do, however,
produce some pollutants because they use diesel fuel, which is a complex mixture of petroleum
components. Nitrogen from the air can be converted into nitrogen oxides, which are reddish
brown gases that irritate the lungs and eyes, because engines consume fuel and air and
generate heat in the combustion process. Furthermore, keeping car and truck emission control
systems in good working order does more than just reduce harmful emissions. It can also help
with vehicle performance and fuel efficiency. It may even extend the vehicle's lifespan.
Evaporative losses to the atmosphere are also reduced when gasoline and other solvents are
stored and handled with care. When an air filter becomes clogged, airflow to the engine is
reduced, which can cause a variety of problems. Also, turn off the air conditioning a few miles
until your destination, as the system will continue to circulate cool air via the fans. To avoid
costly repairs down the road, make sure to use the air conditioning system at least once a week.
However, it may be more fuel efficient to use the vehicles climate control system than to travel
with the windows down as this creates drag on the vehicle increasing fuel consumption and
emissions
