DISABILITIES PHYSICALY DISABILITIES ● DEFINITION: a physical disability is a limitation on a person physical functioning,mobility and stamina. Other physical disabilities include impairments with limit other facets of daily life such as respiratory disorder, blindness, epilepsy and sleep disorders. CATEGORIES ● HEREDITARY : where a person has been born with a physical disability or developed one due to inherited genetic problems, has suffered an injury at birth and issues with their muscles. ● ACQUIRED: it could be due to an accident, infection or disease or a side effect of medical condition . EXAMPLES ● Loss of limbs ● A spinal cord injury ● Cerebral palsy BRAIN INJURIES ● They occur after birth ● As a result of damage to brain through accidents, stroke, tumors, infection and lack of oxygen ● These occurrence can cause damage to cognitive , physical,emotional sensory function of brain these disabilities can be temporary or permanents EPILEPSY ● The cause of epilepsy are not always known but brain trauma, stroke, brain cancer,drugs and alcohol are thought to be significant factors ● Some people are able to treat their epilepsy with medication, and surgery CEREBRAL PALSY ● It affect the way brain controls body muscles resulting in speech ,movement ● In most cases it is caused by brain injury or abnormal development that occurs before birth CYSTIC FIBROSIS (CF) ● It is hereditary genetic condition ,inherited when gene is carried by both parents ● It affect respiratory , digestive and reproductive system because of malfunction in a mucus and sweat glands which cause mucus to thicken as result it infect body organs Hearing impairment ● Due to their general retardation in language development, hearing impairment children are usually handicap by verbal test, even when verbal content id presented visually ● The testing for deaf children , they make different scales like, Paterson performance scale, Arthur performance scale and wechsler scale ● Most of verbal tests administered if oral question are typed on cards and various procedure for communicating the instructions for performance test have been worked out
