Grade: 7 Subject area: Mathematics

Topic: Ratio and Proportion Learning objectives:

Students will be able
● Decides whether two multiples are
proportional by examining real life
situations.
● Discuss the variables around them.
● Use different strategies to represent
and recognize proportional
relationships.
● Compare proportional and
nonproportional relationships.
● Use proportional reasoning to solve
real-world problems involving
proportional relationships.

Materials used: Mindmaster, Flipgrid, Padlet, Kahoot

Description of the activity: (2-3 paragraphs)

First, we divide the students into groups of 3, and we want each group to distribute tasks as a
runner, an observer, and a cameraman. Then we want them to think that they are running the
race in their neighborhood or in the school yard. Using Mindmaster, before the activity, we ask
them to think and write whether the variables around them will be proportional or non-
proportional variables in their environment. By this way, they work together in communication
and use critical thinking skills. After preparing this, we will go out to the garden, and the
observers will take notes and the cameramen will take videos while the runners are
competing. They are actively engaged by a meaningful task in which they manipulate objects
and parameters of the environment they are working in and observe the results of their
manipulations.

After the race is over, we ask the students to upload their videos "Flipgrid". Here, they will be
able to watch and evaluate the videos of other groups. In addition, after each group evaluates
the video and discusses the observer's notes within themselves, they will share their general
conclusions with their classmates through the "Padlet". In this way, they will be able to see the
implications of others and comment on topics they disagree with.

After the class discussion is over, the teacher gives the students a quiz through Kahoot for the
assessment.
