Activity 1

I. Briefly explain the following concepts.

1. Science
2. Technology
3. Society
4. Intellectual revolution

II. LET’S THINK ABOUT THESE QUESTIONS

1. What is the impact of Science & Technology (S&T) to society?

2. Describe the quality of a good scientist
3. What is the contribution of Copernicus in the philosophy of science?
4. Do you think though experiment is still useful in science in the present time?
5. Catholic teachings were based on the theory that the universe was Earth centred.
Do you think the Church should intervene in scientific activities?

III. REFLECTION

Direction: Determine what you have learned (the knowledge that serves as your foundation
to stand & keep); the things you have realized & appreciated (attitude towards learning) and
the things that you discovered (skills that you will cherish in life).
Knowledge Attitude Skills
(Things I have (Things I have realized (things I have discovered
learned) & appreciated) & wanted to do more)
ANSWERS:

I. Briefly explain the following concepts.

1. Science is defined as the observation, identification, description, experimental

investigation, and theoretical explanation of natural phenomena

2. Technology can be most broadly defined as the entities, both material and immaterial,
created by the application of mental and physical effort in order to achieve some value. In
this usage, technology refers to tools and machines that may be used to solve real-world
problems.

3. Societies is a group of people involved with each other through persistent relations, or a
large social grouping sharing the same geographical or social territory, typically subject to
the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations.
4. It is the period where paradigm shifts occurred. It is where the scientific beliefs that have
been widely embraced and accepted by the people where challenged and opposed.

II. LET’S THINK ABOUT THESE QUESTIONS

1 In our lives today, technology is a very important thing. Everything we do in our lives
follows us. It integrated effectively with our culture, making it more profitable and making
our job simple and seamless. With technology, socializing has never been any simpler.

2 To solve experimental problems or world problems, scientists need to interpret knowledge

and make important decisions. They will need to postpone judgement in order to continue
learning and collecting information when looking for the best possible solution.

3 The Copernican Revolution, the change from a geocentric view of the cosmos centered
around the Earth in the field of astronomy to a heliocentric understanding centered around
the Sun, as expressed in the 16th century by the Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.
4 Yeah. Since data is important and it allows us to learn more about the subject and to make
us see the big picture.

5 For me, I believe they ought to. It would be a very big benefit if they are willing to
collaborate and contribute to research.

III. REFLECTION

1. Knowledge (Things I have learned) – I've noticed that overtime details will alter and
we should be open to new data that arrives. In order to conclude that it is validated
and accurate, we should also inspect the data.
2. Attitude (Things I have realized & appreciated) – I valued the scientific achievements
of the past and today because we can't live like this easily without them. They are the
basis of this achievement, and with all my heart, I sincerely admire them
3. Skills (Things I have discovered & wanted to do more) - I wanted to contribute to this
field and learn more about this subject because it is so important that more generations
will benefit from it.
