The punishment of the grave is an integral part of our Aqeeda.

This is because we have a mountain of evidence from Qur'an and Sunnah for the punishment of the
grave.

There are some people who claim the punishment of the grave is not a reality.

They claim it is only a fantasy.

Their argument is that the hadiths that talk about the punishment of the grave is (Ahaad)

The claim that these hadiths are dhannee ad-dalaala because they are hadith (Ahaad)

Dhannee ad-dalaala means the hadith is doubtful.

They say for them to take a hadith in to their Aqeeda, it has to be Qat'ee ad-dalaala.

Qat'ee ad-dalaala means it is certain, no doubt about it.

They only take hadiths, which are mutawaatir into their Aqeeda.
They will not take a hadith that is heard by one sahaba in to their Aqeeda.

This is the argument of the mutazilites.

They bring Quranic verses to refute people who take hadith ahad in to their Aqeeda.

One verse they bring is Surah 10:36.

And most of them follow nothing but conjecture. Certainly, conjecture can be of no avail against
the truth. Surely, Allah is All-Aware of what they do.

(Yunus 10:36)

The other ayah they quote is Surah 49:12.

O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins.

(Al-Hujurat 49:12)

The argument of the modern day mutazilites is that some suspicions are sins so you are not allow taking
hadith ahad in to your Aqeeda.

The morden day mutazilites are the Hizbu Ut Tahrir.

We say to the mutazilite movement the Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) commanded the ummah to
fast based upon the testimony of one man seeing the moon.

Are you telling us that Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did a disservice to his ummah, based on the
testimony of one man?

Even if it was two sahabas, it will still be Ahad.

For a hadith to be mutawatir, ten Sahabas had to have heard it or seen it.

The Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) sent one sahaba, Muadh ibn Jabal, to teach the people
of Yemen their deen.

This is Ahad.
Are you trying to insinuate the Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) did a disservice to the people
of Yemen?

When the Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) sent one Sahaba that is ahad.

This is how you check mate a member of Hizbu ut Tahrir.

EVIDENCES FROM QUR'AN AND SUNNAH FOR THE PUNISHMENT OF THE GRAVE

A Jewish woman mentioned the punishment of the grave to Aisha (RAA).

Narrated By Masruq: 'Aisha said that a Jewess came to her and mentioned the punishment in the
grave, saying to her, "May Allah protect you from the punishment of the grave." 'Aisha then asked
Allah's Apostle about the punishment of the grave. He said, "Yes, (there is) punishment in the
grave." 'Aisha added, "After that I never saw Allah's Apostle but seeking refuge with Allah from
the punishment in the grave in every prayer he prayed."

[Trans Sahih Bukhari, Vol 2, Book 23, Hadith #454] & {Bukhari: Vol: 2 Book 23 Chapter 86 Hadith:
1372}

Fadalah bin 'Ubaid (RA) reported that The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "The actions of every
dead person come to a halt with his death except the one who is on the frontier in Allah's way (i.e.,
observing Ribat). This latter's deeds will be made to go on increasing for him till the Day of
Resurrection, and he will be secure from the trials in the grave."

[Sunan Tirmidhi (4/165) No. 1621 and Sunan Abu Dawud (3/9) No. 2500]

Narrated By Ibn Abbas: The Prophet once passed by two graves, and those two persons (in the
graves) were being tortured. He said, "They are being tortured not for a great thing (to avoid). One
of them never saved himself from being soiled with his urine, while the other was going about
with calumnies (to make enmity between friends). He then took a green leaf of a date-palm tree
split it into two pieces and fixed one on each grave. The people said, "O Allah's Apostle! Why
have you done so?" He replied, "I hope that their punishment may be lessened till they (the leaf)
become dry."

[Sahih Bukhari, Vol 2, Book 23, Hadith #443]

Abu Sa'eed narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (SAW) entered his Musalla and saw the people who
looked as if they were smiling. So he said: 'Indeed, if you were to increase in remembrance of the
severer of pleasures, then you would find yourselves too busy for what I see. So increase in
remembrance of death, the severer of pleasures for indeed there is no day that comes upon the
grave except that it speaks, saying: "I am thee house of the estranged, I am the house of the
solitude, I am the house of dust, and I am the house of the worm-eaten." When the believing
worshipper is buried, the grave says to him: "Welcome, make yourself comfortable. Indeed, to me,
you are the most beloved of those who walked upon me. Since you have been entrusted to me
and delivered to me today, you shall see what I have arranged for you." It will then widen for him
so that his sight extends, and the door to Paradise is opened for him. And when the wicked
worshipper or the disbeliever is buried, the grave says to him: "You are not welcome, do not get
comfortable. Indeed, to me, you are the most hated of those who walked upon me. Since you have
been entrusted to me and delivered to me today, you shall see what I have arranged for you.'" He
said: 'It will begin closing in on him (squeezing him) until his ribs are crushing each other.'" He
said: " The Messenger of Allah (SAW) clasped some of his fingers between others and said:
'Seventy giant serpents will constrict him, if even one of them were to hiss on the earth, nothing
upon it would grow as long as it remained. They will chew on him and bite him until he is brought
to the Reckoning.'" He said: " The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: 'The grave is but a garden from
the gardens of Paradise, or a pit from the pits of the Fire.'"

[Sunan Tirmidhi (4/639) No. 2460]

The severer of pleasures is death.

There should be no doubt that there are serpents in the grave.

This is the knockout punch for those who say there is no punishment in the grave.

Ali (RA) narrated: We did not cease to doubt punishment in the grave till the surah was revealed:
Your rivalry in the accumulation of wealth diverts your minds. (102:1 etc)

[Sunan Tirmidhi (Vol. 5 pg. 447) No. 3355]

Punishment of the grave is mentioned in surah Ghafir verse 45 to 46.

So Allah saved him from the evils that they plotted (against him), while an evil torment
encompassed Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people. The Fire; they are exposed to it, morning and afternoon,
and on the Day when the Hour will be established (it will be said to the angels) : "Cause Fir'aun's
(Pharaoh) people to enter the severest torment!"

(Ghafir 40:45-46)
Ibn Kathir said that this surah is the evidence that the punishment of the grave is a reality and not a
fantasy.

The punishment of the grave was made mention of in the Qur'an.

The other evidence is Surah 102:1.

The reason why people say the punishment of the grave is not mentioned in the Qur'an is because they
are jahil.

The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you,

(At-Takathur 102:1)

AFFIRMATION OF THE PUNISHMENT OF THE GRAVE BY ABU HANIFA (RA)

Abu Hanifa said: Anyone who says "I do not acknowledge the punishment of the grave" then he is
of the Jahmiyyah the losers, i.e. those who deny Allah's Names and Attributes. He is of the
Jahmiyyah because he denies Allah's statement: ...We shall punish them twice, and thereafter
they shall be brought back to a great (horrible) torment.
(At-Tawbah 9:101).

Also he's guilty of denying Allah's words: And verily, for those who do wrong, there is another
punishment (i.e. the torment in this world and in their graves) before this, but most of them know
not. (At-Tur 52:47).

This ayah is referring to the punishment of the grave. And if he says: I believe in the ayah but not
its interpretation then he becomes an infidel because some verses of the Qur'an are self-
explanatory and stands in no need of an interpretation.

Hence the verse explains itself. Therefore if anyone denies any of these verses that are self-
explanatory he becomes a kaafir. On the authority of Abu Hanifa who heard from al-Minhaal ibn
Amru who narrated from Ibn Abbas (RA) who said: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) has said: The
worst of my Ummah are those who claim I will be going to Paradise but definitely not the Hell-fire.

[Abu Hanifah, al-Fiqh al-Akbar (pg. 137)]

Abu Hanifa (RA) said the greatest fiqh is Tawheed.

Allah (SWT) said that they would be punished twice.

Surah 9:101 establishes that the punishment of the grave is a reality and not a fantasy.

And among the bedouins round about you, some are hypocrites, and so are some among the
people of Al-Madinah, they exaggerate and persist in hypocrisy, you (O Muhammad SAW) know
them not, We know them. We shall punish them twice, and thereafter they shall be brought back to
a great (horrible) torment.

(At-Tawbah 9:101)

On the authority of Qataada who said: Allah's words, "...We shall punish them twice..." (Surah
9:101) means the punishment of the grave then the torment of the Hell-fire.

[Tafseer Ibn Abi Hatim (6/1870) No. 10304]

This tafseer given by Tabari is the only accurate tafseer for Surah 9:101.

On the authority of Ibn Jareej who said: The ayah of Surah Taubah 9:101 means they shall receive
a punishment in the dunya then in their graves and a final punishment in the Hell-fire.

[Tafseer at-Tabari (14/444) No. 17133]

Then they will be brought to the hellfire.

Imaam ash-Shafiee (d.204H) (rh) said: "Indeed al-Qadr (predestination): both the good and evil
consequences are from Allaah -the Mighty and Majestic. Indeed Punishment of the Grave is a true
fact, the questioning of those in the graves is a true fact, the Resurrection is a true fact, the
Accountability is a true fact, and Paradise and Hellfire are true facts

Whatever else is related in the Sunnah and so mentioned by the scholars and their followers
throughout the lands of the Muslims is also true"

(Manaaqibush-Shafiee (1/415) of Al-Bayhaqee)

Murwadhi says: Abu 'Abdullah (Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (Allah have mercy on him)) told us; "The
punishment of the grave is haqq and none deny it except a person who is deviated and one who
deviates."

[Tabaqat al-Hanabilah (1/62)]

Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahab (RA) wrote a book called al usool al thalatha (The three principles).

This tells us that there will be punishment in the grave for those who can't answer the three questions.

Imaam Ahmad (d.241H)(rh) said: "From the essential Sunnah ,which if a person leaves anyone of
its points-not accepting it and not having emaan in it-then he will not be from its people are: (he
then mentions ) emaan in the Punishment of the Grave"(Usoolus-Sunnah (no.8 of Imaam Ahmad)
He also said: "Punishment of the Grave is a true fact. The servant will be questioned about his
Religion and his Lord. Munkir and Nakeer andParadise and Hellfire are also true facts"

(Risaalatus-Sunnah(p.72) of Imaam Ahmad.)

IBN QAYYIM AL JAWZIYA: REASONS FOR THE PUNISHMENT OF THE GRAVE

There are many reasons for which people may be punished in their graves, which Ibn al-Qayyim
(may Allaah have mercy on him) listed and said:

Some people may wonder about the reasons for which people may be punished in their graves.
This may be answered in two ways: in general and in detail. In general terms, they may be
punished for their ignorance of Allaah, their ignoring His commands and their disobedience
towards Him. Allaah

does not punish any soul that acknowledged Him, loved Him, obeyed His commands and heeded
His prohibitions, nor does He punish the body that was inhabited by that soul.

Punishment in the grave and in the Hereafter is due to the wrath and anger of Allaah towards His
slave. Whoever angers Allaah in this world and does not repent, and dies like that, will be
punished in al-Barzakh to a level commensurate with Allaah's anger with him.

As for the detailed answer:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us about two men whom he saw
being punished in their graves. One of them used to walk around spreading malicious gossip
among people, and the other failed to take precautions to avoid getting urine on himself. So the
latter failed to purify himself as required, and the former did something that creates enmity among
people by talking, even if what he says is true. Thus it may be noted that the one who stirs up
enmity by telling lies and making false statements will be punished even more.

Failing to keep oneself clean from urine indicates that the one who neglects prayer, for which
cleansing oneself from urine is a requirement and condition will be punished even more. In the
hadeeth of Shu’bah, it says: “One of them used to eat the flesh of people,” which refers to
backbiting or malicious gossip.

According to the hadeeth of Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) a man was struck with
a whip and his grave was filled with fire because he offered a single prayer without having purified
himself, and he passed by one who was being wronged and did not help him.

According to the hadeeth of Samurah in Saheeh al-Bukhaari, a person who told a lie that spread
far and wide was punished.

A man who read Qur’aan then slept at night and did not act upon it by day was punished.
Adulterers and adulteresses are punished. The one who consumes riba is punished in al-Barzakh,
as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) testified.

According to the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him), the heads of some
people will be crushed with rock because they were too heavy for them to get up and pray.

Some will graze on al-daree’ and al-zaqqoom (horrid types of food in Hell) because they withheld
the zakaah of their wealth

Some will eat putrid, rotten meat because of their zina. Some will have their lips cut off with iron
scissors because they caused fitnah (fighting, civil war) with their words and their speech.

According to the hadeeth of Abu Sa’eed, those who committed these crimes will be punished.
Some of them will have bellies as big as houses; they are those who consumed riba. Some will
open their mouths and have stones thrown into them that will emerge from their nether regions;
they are the ones who consumed orphans’ wealth.

Some will be hung up by their breasts; they are the adulterers. Some will have their sides cut and
will be fed with their own flesh; they are the one who engaged in backbiting. Some will have nails
of copper with which they will scratch their faces and chests; they are the ones who impugned
people’s honour.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said that the one who stole a cloak from
the war booty will be wrapped in a cloak of fire in his grave. This is despite the fact that he was
entitled to a share of the booty, so how about those who wrong others unlawfully?

The punishment of the grave is for sins of the heart, the eye, the ear, the mouth, the tongue, the
stomach, the private parts, the hand, the foot, and the entire body.

Those who spread malicious gossip, tell lies, backbite, give false witness, slander those who are
chaste and innocent, spread fitnah, promote bid’ah (innovation), say things about Allaah and His
Messenger without knowledge, and speak in a reckless manner.

Those who consume riba, consume orphans’ wealth and consume haraam wealth such as bribes
and the like. Those who consume the wealth of their Muslim brothers unlawfully, or the wealth of
non-Muslims living under Muslim protection, or consume intoxicants.

Adulterers, homosexuals, thieves, traitors, betrayers and plotters. Those who consume riba, those
who pay it, those who record it and those who witness it; those who enter into a marriage merely
to divorce the woman so that it will become permissible for her to

return to her former husband, and those for whom this is done; those who seek to waive the
duties enjoined by Allaah and transgress His sacred limits.

Those who seek to harm the Muslims and seek to expose their faults. Those who rule by
something other than that which Allaah has revealed, those who issue rulings based on things
which Allaah has not prescribed, and those who help others in sin and transgression.

Those who kill souls whom Allaah has forbidden us to kill, those who deny the names and
attributes of Allaah, those who give their opinions and ideas precedence over the Sunnah of the
Messenger of Allaah.

Those who wail for the dead and those who listen to them, those who will wail in Hell are those
who sing songs that are forbidden by Allaah and His Messenger and those who listen to them.
Those who build mosques over graves and set up lamps in them; those who try to take more
when they take what they are owed and try to give less when they give what they owe.

Tyrants, the arrogant, those who show off, slanderers and backbiters, those who slander the salaf.
Those who go to soothsayers, astrologers and fortunetellers to ask them things and believe what
they say.

Those who help wrongdoers, who have sold their Hereafter for the sake of others in this world.
Those who, if you remind them to fear Allaah do not pay any heed, but if you try to scare them by
mentioning another person like themselves, they pay heed and refrain from what they are doing.
Those who are told of the words of Allaah and His Messenger but they do not pay any attention to
it, but if they hear it from one of whom they think well, who may be right or wrong, they seize it
and do not go against it.

Those to whom Qur’aan is recited but they are not affected by it, and it may be burdensome for
them, but when they heard the “qur’aan” of the shaytaan or that which calls to zina (i.e., music)
and words of hypocrisy, they feel good and it cheers them up, and they wish that the singer would
not stop.

Those who swear by Allaah and tell lies, but when they swear by their shaykhs or relatives, or the
life of one whom they love and respect, they will not lie, even if they are threatened and tortured.
Those who boast of their sins in front of their brothers.

Those from whom you do not feel that your possessions and dignity are safe. Those who engage
in obscene speech, whom people shun for fear of their evil. Those who delay prayer until the end
of its time, and then peck out the prayer, remembering Allaah but little therein. Those who do not
pay the zakaah of their wealth willingly. Those who do not perform Hajj even though they are able
to, and do not do the duties required of them even though they are able to. Those who are not
cautious with regard to what they look at or say or eat or where they go, and they do not care what
wealth they acquire, whether it is halaal or haraam.

Those who do not uphold the ties of kinship or show compassion towards the poor, widows,
orphans, or animals, rather they forsake orphans and do not urge others to feed the poor. They
show off to people, withhold small kindnesses, and seek out people’s faults and sins whilst
ignoring their own.

All of these and their ilk will be punished in their graves for these sins, according to how great or
small they were. Because most people are like this, most of the inhabitants of the graves will be
punished, and those who succeed will be very few.

The outside of the grave is just earth, but inside it is regret and torment. The outside may be earth
and carved stones, whilst inside it is disaster and calamity, boiling with grief and sorrow like a
kettle, and no wonder, when they no longer get what they want of their desires and wishes.

There are lessons in this world which need no further exhortation. It calls out: O dwellers of the
earth, you have focused on building a realm that will soon pass away, and you have neglected the
realm to which you are moving quickly. You have built houses in which others will live and enjoy
them, and you have neglected houses for which there are no other inhabitants but you.
This is the place where you will abide and bid farewell to work and toil. This is what matters, one
of the gardens of Paradise or one of the chambers of Hell

The hadith about women being hung by their breasts/hair because they refused to wear hijab is a
fabricated hadith

The goofy sufis fabricated the hadith to scare women.

The hadith about women being hung by their breasts for having an affair is also a fabricated hadith.

REASONS WHY PEOPLE ARE PUNISHED IN THEIR GRAVES

REASON # 1: DROPPING URINE ON YOUR CLOTHING

Ibn ‘Abbas related that the Messenger of God, upon him be God’s blessings and peace,
passed by two graves and said: “They are being punished, but not for a great matter (on
their part). One of them did not clean himself from urine, and the other used to spread
slander.” (Tirmidhi, “Tahara,” 53)

Narrated By Ibn Abbas: The Prophet once passed by two graves, and those two persons (in
the graves) were being tortured. He said, "They are being tortured not for a great thing (to
avoid). One of them never saved himself from being soiled with his urine, while the other

REASON # 2: TALE BEARING

It is reported from Hudhaifa that news reached him (the Holy Prophet) that a certain man
carried tales. Upon this Hudhaifa remarked: I heard Allah's Messenger (SAW) saying: "The
tale-bearer shall not enter Paradise."

[Al-Bukhari (6056) and Muslim (189)]

Ibn Shihab said he did not hear that exemption was granted in anything what the people
speak as lie but in three cases: in battle, for bringing reconciliation amongst persons and the
narration of the words of the husband to his wife, and the narration of the words of a wife to
her husband (in a twisted form in order to bring reconciliation between them).

[Sahih Muslim, Book 32, Hadith #6303]

REASON # 3: TO MAKE UP LIES FOR PEOPLE TO HATE EACH OTHER

Abu Huraira narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "It is enough to call a man a liar
that he narrates everything he hears"

[Sahih Muslim (1/10) No. 5, Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah (5/237) No. 25617, al-Zuhd al-
Ahmad Ibn Hanbal (p. 41) No. 249]

REASON # 4: TO NEGLECT SALAH

Guard strictly (five obligatory) As Salawat (the prayers) especially the middle Salat (i.e. the
best prayer 'Asr). And stand before Allah with obedience [and do not speak to others during
the Salat (prayers)].

(Al-Baqarah 2:238)

Amr ibn Shu’ayb from his father that his grandfather said: The Messenger of Allah (SAW)
said: “Teach your children to pray when they are seven years old, and smack them if they do
not pray when they are ten years old, and separate them in their beds.”

[Sunan Abu Dawud (1/133) No. 495 and Musnad Ahmad (2/180) No. 6689]

REASON # 5: TO MAKE SALAH WITHOUT WUDU

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, “My nation will come on
the Day of Resurrection with bright streaks of light on their foreheads, arms and legs due to
the traces of ablution. Whoever can increase the area of his radiance should do so (i.e. by
performing ablution regularly).”

[Al-Bukhari (136) and Muslim (246)]

REASON # 6: TO SPREAD PROPAGANDA

It was narrated that Anas ibn Maalik (RA) said: The Prophet (SAW) said: “On the night on which I
was taken on the Night Journey (Isra’), I saw men whose lips were being cut off with scissors of
fire. I said: ‘Who are these, O Jibreel?’ He said: ‘These are the khateebs from among your ummah
who used to enjoin righteousness on the people and forget themselves, and they used to recite
the Book but they did not understand.’”

[Narrated by Ahmad, 3/120]

Abu Huraira narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "It is enough to call a man a liar that he
narrates everything he hears"

Hanbal (p. 41) No. 249]

REASON # 7: TO EAT RIBA

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (SAW) said: "Riba has seventy segments, the least
serious being equivalent to a man committing adultery with his own mother."

[Sunan Ibn Majah (3/337) No. 2274 and Mustadrak al-Haakim (2/43) No. 2259]

The capitalist system is built on riba so it is going to fail.

Those who eat Riba (usury) will not stand (on the Day of Resurrection) except like the standing of
a person beaten by Satan (Satan) leading him to insanity. That is because they say: "Trading is
only like Riba (usury)," whereas Allah has permitted trading and forbidden Riba (usury). So
whosoever receives an admonition from his Lord and stops eating Riba (usury) shall not be
punished for the past; his case is for Allah (to judge); but whoever returns [to Riba (usury)], such
are the dwellers of the Fire - they will abide therein.

(Al-Baqarah 2:275)

Ibn Mas’ud (RA) reported that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) cursed the receiver of interest, its
payer, the witnesses (to the deal) and the scribe who writes it down.

[Tirmidhi 1210, Ahmed 3737, Abu Dawud 3333, Ibn e Majah 2777]

REASON # 8: TO EAT THE WEALTH OF THE ORPHAN

Verily, those who unjustly eat up the property of orphans, they eat up only a fire into their bellies,
and they will be burnt in the blazing Fire!

(An-Nisa 4:10)
Narrated Abu-Huraira (RA); ‘The Prophet (SAWS) said: “Avoid the seven great destructive
sins.” The people enquired; ‘O Allah’s Messenger! What are they?’ The Prophet (SAWS) said:
To join others in worship along with Allah, to eat up usury, to eat up the orphan’s wealth,

REASON # 9: TO COMMIT ZINA

Abu Hurairah reported the Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬as saying “ Every child of Adam has his share in
adultery. He then narrated the rest of the tradition. This version goes “And the hands commit
adultery; their adultery is catching; and the legs commit adultery; their adultery is walking;
and the mouth commits adultery – its adultery is kissing.”

{Sunan Abi Dawud 2153 & Sunan Abu Dawud: Book 11, Hadith 2148}

Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet (SAW), said, "Avoid the seven fatal sins." They said,
"Messenger of Allah, what are they?" He said, Slandering unthinking chaste believing
women."

[Al-Bukhari (2766) and Muslim (89)]

And come not near to the unlawful sexual intercourse. Verily, it is a Fahishah [i.e. anything that
transgresses its limits (a great sin)], and an evil way (that leads one to Hell unless Allah forgives
him).

(Al-Isra 17:32)

REASON # 10: BACKBITING

O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not,
neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You
would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is the One Who accepts
repentance, Most Merciful.

(Al-Hujurat 49:12)

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said, "Do
you know what is backbiting?" The Companions said: "Allah and His Messenger know
better." Thereupon he said, "Backbiting is talking about your (Muslim) brother in a manner
which he dislikes." It was said to him: "What if my (Muslim) brother is as I say." He said, "If
he is actually as you say, then that is backbiting; but if that is not in him, that is slandering."
{Muslim: Book 32, Chapter 18 Hadith 6265}

REASON # 11: STEALING FROM THE BOOTY

'Ubadah bin as-Samit (RAA) narrated that The Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said: “Do not be dishonest
(and treacherous) about the war booty (i.e. steal from it before it is divided legally), as Ghulul will
be like fire (for the ones who got involved in it) and a cause of disgrace to those who are guilty of
it in this world and in the Hereafter.” Related by Ahmad, and An-Nasa‘i, and Ibn Hibban graded it
as Sahih.

(Bulugh al-Maram Book 11, Hadith 1318 )

REASON # 12: DESTROYING THE HONOUR OF YOUR MUSLIM BROTHERS AND SISTERS

It is narrated on the authority of Jabir that he heard the (Holy Prophet) say: A Muslim is he
from whose hand and tongue the Muslims are safe.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said: “Whoever covers
(the sin of) a Muslim, Allah will cover him (his sin) in this world and in the Hereafter.”

"Messenger of Allah, what are they?" He said, "Associating with Allah, sorcery, killing a soul
which Allah has forbidden, except by legal right, consuming usury, consuming the property of an
orphan, fleeing on the day of battle and slandering unthinking chaste believing women."

[Al-Bukhari (2766) and Muslim (89)]

REASON # 17: TO PROMOT BID'AH AMONG THE MUSLIMS

Aisha narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "Those who give respect to a bid'ati
(innovator in Religion) surely will be counted as a helper of destroying Islam."

[Al-Tabarani in 'al-Mu’jam al-Awsat' (7/35) No. 6772 and al-Bayhaqi in 'Shu'ab al-Emaan'
(12/57) No. 9018]
On the authority of Aisha (RA): The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "He who innovates
something in this matter of ours that is not of it will have it rejected."

[Al-Bukhari (2697) and Muslim (1718)]

REASON # 18: SPEAKING ABOUT ALLAH OR HIS RASUL WITHOUT ANY KNOWLEDGE

Ibn Abbas (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “He who speaks on the Qur’an
without possessing knowledge must assume his seat in the Fire.”

[Musnad Ahmad (Vol. 1, pg. 269) No. 2429, Sunan at-Tirmdhi (Vol. 5, pg.198) No. 2950, Abu
Eesa al-Tirmidhi said: this hadeeth is hasan]

REASON # 19: TO FABRICATE HADITHS DELIBERATELY TO SPREAD A FALSE VERSION OF

REASON # 20: TO EAT UP THE WEALTH OF MUSLIMS WRONGFULLY

Allah (SWT) spoke about this in Surah 4:29.

O you who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves unjustly except it be a trade
amongst you, by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allah is
Most Merciful to you.

(An-Nisa 4:29)

REASON # 21: TO STEAL FROM A DHIMMI

The dhimmi is the Christian or Jew who lives in the Islamic state and pays jizya.

REASON # 22: HOMOSEXUALITY

On the authority of Ibn ‘Abbas (RA) that the Prophet (SAW) cursed men who imitate women
and women who imitate men, and he said: “Throw them out of your houses.”

[Sahih Bukhari (7/159) No. 5885]

Ibn ‘Abbas (RA) that the Prophet of Allah (SAW) said: “May Allah curse the one who does the
action of the people of Loot, may Allah curse the one who does the action of the people of
Loot,” three times.

[Musnad Ahmad (1/317) No. 2915, This was classed as hasan by Shu’ayb al-Arna’oot in
Tahqeeq al-Musnad]

REASON # 23: BESTIALITY

REASON # 24: TO DO HALAALA

Halaala is to marry a divorced woman, consummate with her, then divorces her for her first husband to
take her back.

REASON # 25: TO DISLODGE THE SHARIAH

Indeed, We sent down the Torah, in which was guidance and light. The prophets who submitted
[to Allah] judged by it for the Jews, as did the rabbis and scholars by that with which they were
entrusted of the Scripture of Allah, and they were witnesses thereto. So do not fear the people but
fear Me, and do not exchange My verses for a small price. And whoever does not judge by what
Allah has revealed – then it is those who are the disbelievers.

(Al-Ma'idah 5:44) Sahih International:

REASON # 26: TO HELP OTHERS IN SINS AND TRANSGRESSION

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: The servant (who
conceals) the faults of others in this world, Allah would conceal his faults on the Day of
Resurrection.

[Sahih Muslim, Book 32, Hadith #6267]

Asma' Bint Yazid narrated the Prophet (SAW) said: "Whoever defends the honour of his
brother in absence has the right over Allah to be freed from the Fire."

[Musnad Ahmad (6/461) No. 27650, al-Mu’jam al-Kabir al-Tabarani (24/176) No. 443,
Musnad Abu Dawud at-Tayalisi (3/201) No. 1737]

REASON # 27: KILLING OF AN INNOCENT

Because of that We ordained for the Children of Israel that if anyone killed a person not in
retaliation of murder, or (and) to spread mischief in the land - it would be as if he killed all
mankind, and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind. And indeed,
there came to them Our Messengers with clear proofs, evidences, and signs, even then after that
many of them continued to exceed the limits (e.g. by doing oppression unjustly and exceeding
beyond the limits set by Allah by committing the major sins) in the land!.

(Al-Ma'idah 5:32)

Narrated By 'Abdullah: Allah's Apostle said, "The blood of a Muslim who confesses that none
has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that I am His Apostle, cannot be shed except in
three cases: In Qisas for murder, a married person who commits illegal sexual intercourse
and the one who reverts from Islam (apostate) and leaves the Muslims."

[Al-Bukhari (6878) and Muslim (1676)]

THE REASONS FOR THE PUNISHMENT OF THE GRAVE

MARCH 18 2014 / 16 JUMADA AL ULA 1435 HIJRI

The punishment of the grave is a reality, not a fantasy.

You are not allowed to doubt the punishment of the grave because it is in the Quran.

Some sahaba doubted the punishment of the grave until the following verse was revealed then they had
no doubt.

The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you, Until you visit the graves (i.e. till you
die). Nay! You shall come to know!

(At-Takathur 102:1-3)

REASON #28: GIVING YOUR OPINION PREFERANCE OVER QURAN AND SUNNAH

But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad SAW) judge in all
disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept
(them) with full submission.
(An-Nisa 4:65)

O you who believe! Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet (SAW), nor speak aloud
to him in talk as you speak aloud to one another, lest your deeds may be rendered fruitless while
you perceive not.

(Al-Hujurat 49:2)

It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that
they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he
has indeed strayed in a plain error.

(Al-Ahzab 33:36)

So this is one of the reasons why people get punished in the grave, because they give their opinion
preference over Quran and Sunnah.

O you who believe! Enter perfectly in Islam (by obeying all the rules and regulations of the Islamic
religion) and follow not the footsteps of Shaitan (Satan). Verily! He is to you a plain enemy
(Al-Baqarah 2:208)

REASON #29: TO WAIL OVER THE DEAD

When their loved ones died they wail over the dead

Abu Malik al-Ash'ari reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Among
my people there are four characteristics belonging to pre-Islamic period which they do not
abandon: boasting of high rank, reviling other peoples' genealogies, seeking rain by stars,
and walling. And he (further) said: If the wailing woman does not repent before she dies,
she will be made to stand on the Day of Resurrection wearing a garment of pitch and a
chemise of mange.

{Sahih Muslim Book 4 Chapter 181 Hadith 2033}

REASON #30: BUILDING MASJID OVER THE GRAVE

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) cursed women who visit graves,
those who built mosques over them and erected lamps (there).

[Sunan Abi Dawud 3236 & Book 20 Hadith 3230} {Book 21 Hadith 148}
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Let there be curse of Allah upon the
Jews and the Christians for they have taken the graves of their apostles as places of worship.

[Sahih Muslim: Book 4 Chapter 47 Hadith 1081 & Muslim: Book 5, Hadith 26}

REASON #31: TO BE OF THE MUTAF'FIFEEN (TO CHEAT IN YOUR TRANSACTION)

The people of Shu'aib were the first to cheat in their transaction by cheating the scale.

They became rich by it.

No Ummah before them cheated with the scales

Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)],
Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, And when
they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. Think they not that they will be
resurrected (for reckoning), On a Great Day, The Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord
of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)?

(Al-Mutaffifin 83:1-6)

To cheat in your transaction is yet another reason why people will be punished in the grave.

Abdullah bin Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW), said, "He who took up arms
against us is not one of us. Anyone who cheats us is not one of us."

[Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Chapter 43 Hadith #179]

Even thou it is your natural instinct to love wealth; you are not allowed to usurp the wealth of your
brothers and sisters.

O you who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves unjustly except it be a trade
amongst you, by mutual consent. And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allah is
Most Merciful to you.

(An-Nisa 4:29)

This is why people will be punished in their graves; they were deceptive in their trading transactions

REASON #32: PEOPLE WILL BE PUNISHED IN THE GRAVE DUE TO THEIR PRIDE AND
ARROGANCE
Their hearts were filled with pride

"And turn not your face away from men with pride, nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily,
Allah likes not each arrogant boaster.

(Luqman 31:18)

It is narrated on the authority 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud that the Messenger of Allah (SAW)
observed: “Never a Prophet had been sent before me by Allah towards his nation who had
not among his people (his) disciples and companions who followed his ways and obeyed his
command. Then there came after them their successors who said whatever they did not
practise, and practiced whatever they were not commanded to do. He who strove against
them with his hand was a believer: he who strove against them with his tongue was a
believer, and he who strove against them with his heart was a believer and beyond that
there is no faith even to the extent of a mustard seed.”

[Sahih Muslim (1/69) No. 50] & Muslim Book 1 Chapter 21 Hadith 81}

Pride is to reject the truth, knowing it is the truth and to look down upon others

The kuffar keep on rejecting Islam nowadays because of their pride and arrogance.

Pharaoh was prideful as well.

Abu Lahab and Abu Jahl rejected the truth knowing that it was the truth. It was their pride

Nimrod was also full of pride.

REASON #33: TO SLANDER THE PIOUS SALAF (PREDECESSOR)

Allah (SWT) taught you a dua so you don’t slander the pious predecessors in surah 59:10

And those who came after them say: "Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded
us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You
are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.

(Al-Hashr 59:10)

In the above ayah Allah says not to slander the pious predecessor.
The prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said do not insult any one my sahabas

Hussain ibn Ali related from his father Ali Ibn Abi Talib that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:
"Whoever curses a Prophet, kill him. Whoever curses my Companions, beat him."

[Al-Mu’jam al-Awsat al-Tabarani (5/35) No. 4602]

Abu Sa‘eed al-Khudri (RA) narrated the prophet (SAW) said: ‘Do not slander my Companions, for
if one of you were to spend an amount of gold equivalent to the size of Mount Uhud, you would
not even come halfway up to their level."

[Al-Bukhari (3673) and Muslim (2540)]

The rafida are guilty of slandering the companions of the prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).

Rafida means Shia

The route word of rafida is to reject

Rafida means they reject the sahabas

And one of the sign of the Last Day is that people will insult the pious predecessor.

Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "Fear Allah regarding my companions, and do not
make them a target after I am gone. He who loves them does so from love of me, and he who
hates them does so from hatred of me. He who injures them has injured me, he who injures me
has injured Allah, and he who injures Allah will soon be punished by Him."

{Al-Tirmidhi Hadith – 1554}

One of the sign of the hypocrites is that he hates our pious predecessors. And he jumps at every
opportunity to disgrace them

So the shia who hates the sahabas also hate Muhammed (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) as well.

REASON #34: TO APPROACH THE SOOTHSAYER AND BELIEVE IN THEM

Abu Huraira reported that the Prophet (SAW), said, “Whoever comes to a fortune-teller and
believes him has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (SAW)”.

[Musnad Ahmad (Vol. 2, pg. 429) No. 9532 and Mustadrak al-Hakim (Vol. 1, pg. 49) No. 15]
This kufr, is it major or minor?

If he believes that the soothsayer is the all knowing who has perfect knowledge of the future, then this is
MAJOR kufr.

If he believes that the soothsayer is not the all knowing but guessing, then this is MINOR kufr.

It all depends on the state of mind of the person who approaches the soothsayer

As for a man who practices anal sex with his wife, this is MINOR kufr.

As for a man who practices anal sex with another man and does not change, this is MAJOR kufr.

As for zina (to fornicate), this is MINOR kufr.

If you do not make a difference between major and minor kufr, you become a khawareej.

The khawareej do not classify the knowledge, they paint the kufr with the same brush.

REASON #35: TO FEAR MEN MORE THAN ALLAH

The prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said let non of you disgrace yourself

It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "No one of you should
belittle himself." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, how could anyone of us belittle himself?" He
said: "If he sees something concerning which he should speak out for the sake of Allah but does
not say anything. Allah will say to him on the Day of resurrection: "What prevented you from
speaking concerning such and such?" He will say: "Fear of the people." (Allah) will say: "Rather
you should have feared Me."

[Sunan Ibn Majah (Arabic/English), Vol 5, pg215, Hadith #4008]

… you did fear the people (i.e., Muhammad SAW married the divorced wife of his manumitted
slave) whereas Allah had a better right that you should fear Him.

(Al-Ahzab 33:37)

The prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) feared the people by not wanting to marry Zainab bint Jahsh.

But Allah (SWT) said He has more right of being feared than the people.
So Allah (SWT) reprimanded the prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) in Surah 33 ayah 37.

REASON #36: THOSE WHO FIND THE QURAN A BURDEN TO LISTEN TO

When the quran is being recited, It is haram to have a conversation in the background.

It means you have no love of the quran

So, when the Qur'an is recited, listen to it, and be silent that you may receive mercy. [i.e. during
the compulsory congregational prayers when the Imam (of a mosque) is leading the prayer
(except Surat Al-Fatiha), and also when he is delivering the Friday-prayer Khutbah]. [Tafsir At-
Tabari, Vol.9, Pages 162-4]

(Al-A'raf 7:204)

When you hear the quran being recited and you continue with your conversation, it means that you don’t
have respect for kalamullah.

They have no respect for the quran

So this is another reason why people will be punished in the grave.

They listen to Hollywood and Bollywood music and find quran a burden to listen to. This is because they
have hypocrisy in their hearts

Some people listen to music attentively, yet as for the Quran they conversation during its recitation.

If they are going on a journey in a car they take a lot of music cds to listen but they will never take the
quran to listen to. Because they find the quran a burden

Some people take a lot of music CD or MP3s during a road trip but not the Quran or ahadith or the
speech of a scholar.

The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts and when
His Verses (this Qur'an) are recited unto them, they (i.e. the Verses) increase their Faith; and they
put their trust in their Lord (Alone);

(Al-Anfal 8:2)
The above verse is used by the scholars of Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jama’ah to refute those who say that our
emaan doesn't rise or fall.

Their Aqeedah contradicts the Quran.

Every deviant contradicts the Quran.

As an example the Saudi salafi can be refuted with Surah 5 ayah 60.

Say (O Muhammad SAW to the people of the Scripture) : "Shall I inform you of something worse
than that, regarding the recompense from Allah: those (Jews) who incurred the Curse of Allah and
His Wrath, those of whom (some) He transformed into monkeys and swines, those who
worshipped Taghut (false deities); such are worse in rank (on the Day of Resurrection in the Hell-
fire), and far more astray from the Right Path (in the life of this world)." (Al-Ma'idah 5:60)

REASON #37: TO SAY WALLAHI AND LIE

People say "wallahi" to con you.

This is because people know that when the you say “wallahi”, Muslims will believe

Some people trade with Allah’s name.

So some people use Allah's name for trading.

Narrator: Abu Huraira The Prophet said, "(There are) three (types of persons to whom) Allah
will neither speak to them on the Day of Resurrections, nor look at them (They are):--(1) a
man who takes a false oath that he has been offered for a commodity a price greater than
what he has actually been offered; (2) and a man who takes a false oath

{Bukhari Volume 9, Book 93, Number 538}

The worst place is the market place and the best place is the masjid

There are so many fakes on the market

Their entire purpose is to con you, a lot of scams take place in the marketplace.

This is why the marketplace is the worse place because a lot of deception goes on there.

REASON #38: THOSE WHO SEVER THE TIE OF KINSHIP

You are not allowed to renounce your family even if they are amongst the kufar.

You cannot break the tie of kinship.

The only time you are allowed to break family ties is when a family member is antagonistic towards
Islam. Then you can sever the ties of kinship

The only time you can break tie with a family member is when he/she attacks Islam with his/her tongue or
his/her hands.

If they did not attack Islam, you are not allowed to sever the ties of kinship

Narrated By Jubair bin Mut'im: That he heard the Prophet saying, "The person who severs the
bond of kinship will not enter Paradise."

{ [Al-Bukhari Vol: 8 Book 78 Chapter 11 Hadith: 5984] and {Muslim: Book 32 Chapter 4 Hadith:
6199}

So if your mother, father, brother, uncle, etc. is a kafir, you may not break tie with them until they attack
Islam with their tongue or hands.

Asma (RA) who had a kafir mother who didn't accept Islam yet and brought her gifts, Asma didn't allow
her in the house.

Allah (SWT) didn't like how Asma (RA) treated her mother so Allah (SWT) revealed Surah 60 verse 8.

Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on
account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal
with equity.

(Al-Mumtahinah 60:8)

So the non-muslim who doesn't fight Islam, you should be kind with them.

REASON #39: THE ONE WHO IS RUDE TO HIS PARENTS

Allah (SWT) spoke about looking after your parents in surah 17:23

And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your
parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of
disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honor. And lower unto them the wing
of submission and humility through mercy, and say: "My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as
they did bring me up when I was small."

(Al-Isra 17:23-24)

Islam has more than five pillars, jihaad is a pillar, and looking after your parents when they are old.

Islam has more than five pillars.

The scholars say jihad is the sixth pillar of Islam.

So if you are rude to your parents, you will be punished in the grave.

REASON #40: THOSE WHO REFUSE TO PAY THE ZAKAH

Allah (SWT) spoke about the importance of zakah in surah 9:34

O you who believe! Verily, there are many of the (Jewish) rabbis and the (Christian) monks who
devour the wealth of mankind in falsehood, and hinder (them) from the Way of Allah (i.e. Allah's
Religion of Islamic Monotheism). And those who hoard up gold and silver [Al-Kanz: the money,
the Zakat of which has not been paid], and spend it not in the Way of Allah, -announce unto them
a painful torment.

(At-Tawbah 9:34)

So the scholars say this ayah is referring to zakah.

There are 70 snakes in the grave.

Whoever is made wealthy by Allah and does not pay the Zakat of his wealth, then on the Day of
Resurrection his wealth will be made like a bald-headed poisonous male snake with two black
spots over the eyes. The snake will encircle his neck and bite his cheeks and say, 'I am your
wealth, I am your treasure.'

{Bukhari Volume 2, Book 24, Number 486}

Those who didn't pay zakah and practice their deen properly will get bitten by them.

The above hadith was quoted by the prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to explain Surah 9 verse 34.
REASON #41: THOSE WHO WORSHIP A FALSE DEITY

Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allah only. And those who take
Auliya' (protectors and helpers) besides Him (say) : "We worship them only that they may bring us
near to Allah." Verily, Allah will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. Truly,
Allah guides not him who is a liar, and a disbeliever.

(Az-Zumar 39:3)

Those who worship a false deity, Allah (SWT) calls them liar and kafirs.

Example the Sufis, the shias, and the barelvi worship false deity.

The pagans of the ummah are three: the extreme Sufi (grave worshipper), the shia, and the barelvis.

They are all grave worshippers.

The hadith of prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) says the Last Day will not come until people worship
false deity.

Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allah only. And those who take
Auliya' (protectors and helpers) besides Him (say) : "We worship them only that they may bring us
near to Allah." Verily, Allah will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. Truly,
Allah guides not him who is a liar, and a disbeliever.

(Az-Zumar 39:3)

Allah (SWT) calls them liars and kafir because of Surah Fatiha verse 5.

There is a lot of barelvis in the ummah even in Europe and North America.

Those who pray to the grave bring a Quranic verse to support their claim: Surah 3 verse 169.

Think not of those who are killed in the Way of Allah as dead. Nay, they are alive, with their Lord,
and they have provision.

(Aali Imran 3:169)

This is the verse used by the grave worshipper to try to corner ASWJ.
They logic is those who die in the path of Allah (SWT) are not dead so then we can approach them for
favors.

There is no doubt that there is life in the grave because there is punishment in the grave.

But the life in the grave is not like the life of dunya, the life the grave is called the barzakh.

The grave worshipper believe that the life of the grave and the life of dunya is alike.

A dead man can hear but not certain things like the dua made to him.

Allah (SWT) says they are only committing shirk.

And they are the ultimate losers.

The scholars of ASWJ used Surah 35 verse 14 to refute the grave worshippers.

If you invoke (or call upon) them, they hear not your call, and if (in case) they were to hear, they
could not grant it (your request) to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your
worshipping them. And none can inform you (O Muhammad SAW) like Him Who is the All-Knower
(of each and everything).

(Fatir 35:14)

In the above mention ayah, Allah (SWT) says when you call the dead then you are committing shirk
(worshipping them).

Therefore, there should be no doubt in your heart that a grave worshipper is a kafir.

Allah (SWT) warned His messenger about shirk even though he (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) was the
most pious.

And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad SAW), as it was to those (Allah's
Messengers) before you: "If you join others in worship with Allah, (then) surely (all) your deeds
will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers."

(Az-Zumar 39:65)

Shaytaan is very clever, he can trick you into committing shirk.

Those who commit Shirk, they think they are still Muslims.
They are the extreme Sufis, Shias and the Barelvis. They think they are Muslims but they are pagans

REASON #42: TO HARM YOUR NEIGHBORS

The prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said the person is not a believer who harms his neighbors.

You should be kind to your neighbors.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: Allah's Messenger (SAW) said, "Allah Most High has allotted you
your characters just as He has allotted you your provisions. Allah Most High gives worldly things
to those whom He loves and By Him in Whose hand my soul is, a man is not a Muslim till his heart
and tongue are submissive, and he is not a believer till his neighbour is safe from injurious
behaviour on his part."

[Ahmad and Bayhaqi, in Shu'ab al-Iman transmitted it.]

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should
not hurt his neighbor and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should serve his guest
generously and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should speak what is good or keep
silent."

[Sahih al-Bukhari Vol: 8 Book 78 Chapter 85 Hadith: 6136 & Book 78, Hadith 163]

You are only a guest in someone's house for three days, after that you become a burden.

It Is better for you to steal from ten homes than to steal from your neighbor's house.

It is better for you to commit zina with ten women than your neighbor's wife

Al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW), asked his Companions about
fornication and they said, "It is unlawful. Allah and His Messenger have made it unlawful." He
said, "It is less serious for a man to fornicate with ten women than for him to fornicate with his
neighbor's wife." Then he asked them about stealing. They replied, "It is unlawful. Allah and His
Messenger have made it unlawful." He said, "It is less serious for a man to steal from ten houses
than it is for him to steal from his neighbor's house."

[Al-Adab al-Mufrad al-Bukhari, No.103 and al-Mu’jam al-Kabir al-Tabarani (20/256) No. 605]

It is better to be good to your neighbour even if he is a kafir

If your neighbor is a homosexual, it is better you to move because your neighbor is evil.

REASON #43: REFUSING TO HELP THE OPPRESSED

Saalim reported from his father that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said “A Muslim is a Muslim’s
brother. He does not oppress him and he does not let him perish. And if anyone attends to the
need of his brother then Allah attends to his need. And if anyone relieves from a Muslim a
hardship then Allah removes from him one of his hardships on the day of resurrection. And if
anyone veils a Muslim (his faults) then Allah will veil him on the day of Resurrection (his faults)

[Tirmidhi 1431, Bukhari Vol: 3 Book 46 Hadith 2442, Ahmed 5650]

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬said, "Help your brother, whether he is an
oppressor or he is an oppressed one."

[Sahih al-Bukhari Vol: 3 Book 46 Chapter 46 Hadith: 2443 & Bukhari: Book 46, Hadith 4]

The companions asked how could we help the oppressor?

The prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) replied by stopping him oppressing others.

REASON #44: TO CONSUME INTOXICANTS

O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), gambling, Al Ansab, and Al Azlam
(arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaitan's (Satan) handiwork. So avoid
(strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful. Shaitan (Satan) wants only to
excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and
hinder you from the remembrance of Allah and from As-Salat (the prayer). So, will you not then
abstain?

(Al-Ma'idah 5:90-91)

Marijuano, crack cocaine, heroin are also classified as khamar (intoxicants)

Khamar can be solid, liquid or gas

Khamar is anything the befogs the mind

Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas: The Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said: Every intoxicant is khamr (wine)
and every intoxicant is forbidden. If anyone drinks wine, Allah will not accept prayer from him for
forty days, but if he repents, Allah will accept his repentance. If he repeats it a fourth time, it is
binding on Allah that He will give him tinat al-khabal to drink. He was asked: What is tinat al-
khabal, Messenger of Allah? He replied: Discharge of wounds, flowing from the inhabitants of
Hell. If anyone serves it to a minor who does not distinguish between the lawful and the unlawful,
it is binding on Allah that He will give him to drink the discharge of wounds, flowing from the
inhabitants of Hell.

[Sunan Abi Dawud Hadith: 3680 & Book 27, Hadith 12]

Even though your salat is not valid for 40 days, you still must pray in order to remain a Muslim.

REASON #45: TO TAKE BRIBE

To take bribes and pay bribes

When ibn Masood was asked about the judge who takes bride and gives wrong verdicts, he replied all of
them are cursed by Allah (SWT).

The prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) cursed those who pay bribe and those take bribe.

From Abdullah ibn Amri that the Prophet (SAW) cursed both the receiver and the giver of bribe

[Tirmidhi 1342, Abu Dawud 3580, Ibn e Majah 2313, Ahmed 7003]

REASON #46: TO COMMIT INCEST

REASON #47: TO DO HARAM AND TELL PEOPLE ABOUT IT

The prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said all of my ummah would be forgiven except those who brag
about it

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬saying. "All the sins of my followers will be
forgiven except those of the Mujahirin (those who commit a sin openly or disclose their sins to the
people). An example of such disclosure is that a person commits a sin at night and though Allah
screens it from the public, then he comes in the morning, and says, 'O so-and-so, I did such-and-
such (evil) deed yesterday,' though he spent his night screened by his Lord (none knowing about
his sin) and in the morning he removes Allah's screen from himself."

[Sahih al-Bukhari Book 78 Chapter 60 Hadith: 6069 & Book 78, Hadith 99]

If you hide your sins it Is easy for Allah (SWT) to forgive you and if you announce them it is difficult for
Allah (SWT) to forgive you
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah preserve him) said: there is a third kind of immoral,
rebellious, promiscuous person, who speaks in a boastful manner about zinaa (fornication,
adultery) – we seek refuge with Allaah – and tells people that he travelled to such and such a
country and committed immoral acts of zinaa with a number of women, and so on, and he shows
off about that. Such people should be asked to repent, and if they do not they should be executed,
because when a person boasts about zinaa, this implies that he thinks it is permissible – Allaah
forbid – and the one who thinks that zinaa is halaal is a kaafir.

(Sharh Riyaad al-Saaliheen, 1/116).

You are not allowed to commit zina and brag about it.

When you brag about it, you think this is halal.

The fatwa is quoted above.

And when you make it halal, you become a kafir.

REASON #48: TO USE FOUL LANGUAGE

Allah (SWT) spoke about foul language in Surah 4 verse 148.

Allah does not like that the evil should be uttered in public except by him who has been wronged.
And Allah is Ever All Hearer, All Knower.

(An-Nisa 4:148)

The human garbage use garbage word.

They use swear word to curse, a believer is not allowed to use these words.

REASON #49: NOT TO DO HAJJ

People avoid hajj without a valid reason.

In it are manifest signs (for example), the Maqam (place) of Ibrahim (Abraham); whosoever enters
it, he attains security. And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah) is a duty that
mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance, provision and
residence); and whoever disbelieves [i.e. denies Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), then he is a
disbeliever of Allah], then Allah stands not in need of any of the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns).
(Aali Imran 3:97)

Ali narrated that: The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever has the provisions and the means to
convey him to Allah's House and he does not perform Hajj, then it does not matter if he dies as a
Jew or a Christian. That is because Allah said in His Book: 'And Hajj to the House is a duty that
mankind owes to Allah, for whomever is able to bear the journey.'

[Jami` at-Tirmidhi 812 & Book 9, Hadith 4]

REASON #50: PEOPLE WHO ARE CARELESS OF WHAT THEY EAT

So if you eat haram food, you will be punished in the grave.

You were very cavalier about what you ate while you were in dunya.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (‫ )ﷺ‬as saying: 0 people, Allah is Good and He therefore,
accepts only that which is good. And Allah commanded the believers as He commanded the
Messengers by saying:" O Messengers, eat of the good things, and do good deeds; verily I am
aware of what you do" (xxiii. 51). And He said: ' 0 those who believe, eat of the good things that
We gave you" (ii. 172) He then made a mention of a person who travels widely, his hair disheveled
and covered with dust. He lifts his hand towards the sky (and thus makes the supplication):" O
Lord,0 Lord," whereas his diet is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, and his clothes are unlawful and
his nourishment is unlawful. How can then his supplication be accepted?

[Sahih Muslim Book 5 Chapter: 18 Hadith: 2214 & Muslim: Book 12, Hadith 83]

REASON #51: THEY GET INVOLVED WITH BLACK MAGIC

To practice magic makes you a kafir.

Jundub (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “The hadd (prescribed punishment)
for the practitioner of magic is a blow with the sword (i.e., execution)"

No. 8073, al-Sunan al-Kabir al-Bayhaqi (8/234) No. 16500, al-Mu'jam al-Kabir al-Tabarani (2/161) No.
1665]

REASON #52: TO RUN AWAY FROM THE BATTLE FIELD

This included those who deny that jihad is part of Islam.

Those of you who turned back on the day the two hosts met (i.e. the battle of Uhud), it was
Shaitan (Satan) who caused them to backslide (run away from the battlefield) because of
some (sins) they had earned. But Allah, indeed, has forgiven them. Surely, Allah is Oft
Forgiving, Most Forbearing.

(Aali Imran 3:155)

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said, "Avoid the seven great destructive sins." The
people enquire, "O Allah's Messenger (‫ !)ﷺ‬What are they? "He said, "To join others in
worship along with Allah, to practice sorcery, to kill the life which Allah has forbidden except
for a just cause (according to Islamic law), to eat up Riba (usury), to eat up an orphan's
wealth, to give back to the enemy and fleeing from the battlefield at the time of fighting,
and to accuse, chaste women, who never even think of anything touching chastity and are
good believers.

[Sahih al-Bukhari Vol: 4 Chapter: 23 Hadith: 2766 & Bukhari: Book 55, Hadith 29]

Abu Hurairah (RAA) narrated that The Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said: “He who dies without
having gone or thought of going out for Jihad in the Cause of Allah, will die while being
guilty of having one of the qualities of hypocrisy.”

{Related by Muslim Bulugh al-Maram Book 11, Hadith 1298}

These are the reason why people will be punished in their graves.
