The Role of Corporate Culture in Business Ethics

Introduction
Although businesses have always faced various challenges, since the financial crisis
began, even more forces seem to affect the business climate. Governments have
increased sales, corporate, income and other taxes. Various environmental and other
regulations have inherit effect placing a greater financial burden on
companies. additionally to those extra expenses, banks have reduced the quantity of
loans they're willing and ready to provide. Furthermore, sales are reduced in many cases
and there are fewer tenders and contracts available to firms. of these factors have
increased the pressure on companies. In an effort to succeed in their goals, continue with
their competitors or just survive, companies face various moral issues
Although the issues have an immediate impact on employee deciding , businesses rarely
address how employees should assess the ethics of their actions and incorporate ethics
into their decisions. Often this will be alleviated by creating and maintaining a
company culture with attention on ethics.
One of the following reasons is business climate and its behavior which plays an
important role in corporate culture in business ethics.

Ethics and Ethical Climate

Technically there's a difference between ethics and morals or morality. Ethics is taken
into account to be a philosophy that examines the principles of what's right and wrong or
good and bad, while morals ask the beliefs that a society has about what's right and
wrong or good and bad. However, since the overall public often use these terms
synonymously, there'll be no distinction between the 2 during this article.
Ethics provides a system of rules or principles that guide people in making decisions in
various situations. Naturally, diverse cultures have diverse values that determine what
actions are acceptable. for instance , a recent study in Russia by Jaffe and Tsimerman
(2011) demonstrated that Russian MBA students and managers lack ethical principles
(according to typical international standards) particularly when their behavior is
compounded by an depression. However, the various cultures don't need to relate only to
national boundaries. Different companies within a rustic or maybe within one town have
different organizational cultures.
Indeed, every business entity has its own ethical climate. An ethical climate  are
often defined because the perception of what constitutes proper behavior. this is
often not characterized by an individual’s ethical standards; rather it's how the
individual’s ethical standards are perceived by the members of the entity. It functions as
a barometer of organizational practices that have moral outcomes and acts as a
psychological mechanism that manages ethical issues. In other words, the
moral climate during a company influences not only the choice making within the
corporate , but also the behavioral responses to moral situations, which are later reflected
in work outcomes . during a business environment then, ethics and therefore the ethical
climate relate to what both the leaders of a corporation do also as what their subordinates
do. last , one’s organizational behavior and perceptions are influenced by three factors:
institutional factors (e.g., ethics legislation), personal factors (e.g., moral development),
and organizational factors (e.g., ethics program)

The Importance of Ethical Behavior

The introduction indicated that individuals in firms may regress to unethical behavior,
especially in times of crisis. However, proper ethical governance entails recognizing
that there's more to good business practice than the financial bottom line. What could
also be good for business leaders to understand is that much inquiry documents the
benefits that firms and stakeholders obtain from maintaining both ethical behavior and
good corporate governance (CG). for instance , the findings by Jin, Drozdenko and
Deloughy (2013) showed that ethical financial organizations achieved higher profits.
Chan and Cheung (2011) have also reported on positive financial performance as
a results of CG. These include: a better return on equity, performing better on the stock
exchange , a better than average return to stockholders, higher sales growth, lower
capital expenditures and other expenses, and lower external funding costs. While
corporate governance practice and ethical sensitivity (the ability to acknowledge ethical
issues) might not be an equivalent , they're related.

Conclusion
Ethical issues have posed major challenges to companies in recent years
and there'll undoubtedly be more within the future. Good ethical practices might not be
easy to take care of . However, with a well-designed ethics policy, ethical leadership and
implementing ethics into organizational strategies and processes, it'll make it easier. the
rationale is because these factors are incorporated into the organizational culture.
In summary, this text has defined organizational culture and demonstrated the role it
plays in ethics within the organization. Benefits of ethical behavior are established.
To conclude, despite the depression , there are clear and long-lasting advantages of
building an ethical culture. With a more open and ethical organizational culture, the
more positively employees tend to plan to corporate social responsibility and this
may generate more honest environments. As a consequence, this might not only reduce
the unhealthy environment that began the financial crisis, but also will help in restoring
the health of the economic system that caused it.
Environmental Ethics for Business

Introduction
Environmental ethics aims to question the basic assumption that nature is there for our
benefit. If nature has intrinsic value, how should that change the way your company uses
energy or packages its products or treats animals? It can actually have large implications for
the way you do business.
The underlying principle of environmental ethics is that nature has intrinsic value. This
means that nature and its parts are not merely means for accomplishing one’s purposes but
are ends in and for themselves.
For centuries, it had been easy to believe that nature existed for citizenry to take
advantage of . The more trees we could hamper and convert into magnificent
buildings, the higher our quality of life. The more coal we could mine for fuel, the more
energy we had available to power factories and produce more life-enhancing goods.

What You Can Do: 2 Important Issues to Consider

1. Full Cost Accounting

The main idea of environmental ethics is that nature has intrinsic value and shouldn’t be
treated merely as a resource to be spent . But traditional accounting doesn’t match
up thereupon vision. It only measures direct monetary costs, with no accounting for
things like pollution and environmental waste, which are sometimes mentioned as
"negative externalities" in theory .

To be according to environmental ethics, you'd got to account for those externalities.

One approach is named full accountancy , or sometimes environmental full accountancy .
It’s a posh area, but i prefer to simplify it by thinking of these signs you sometimes see
in shops: “If you break it, you buy it.” Full accountancy aims to capture a business’s true
costs by measuring the resources it uses, the waste and pollution it generates, and other
social and environmental impacts.

So, consider implementing full accountancy for your business. It’s not a ‘quick fix’ by
any means, but the time it takes are going to be worthwhile . Of all the
items listed during this article, this is often the one that’s most bound to assist you think
differently about how your business operates.

2. Energy Sources
As well as watching energy usage, you'll evaluate the sources of that energy. There
are many alternatives to fossil fuels lately , and you'll switch to an energy supplier that
generates its energy from renewable sources.
For example, in the UK, there are several companies, like Ecotricity and Good Energy,
that provide electricity for homes and businesses from sources like wind generation and
solar panels. Similar providers exist in other countries too, so do some research to seek
out them in your area and obtain a quote. this is often another simple thanks to reduce
your business’s environmental impact and carbon footprint.
Conclusion
In this article, you’ve learned about environmental ethical issues in business. We’ve looked at
what environmental ethics means and how it can be applied to the business world, and we’ve
covered two things you can do to put environmental ethics into practice in your business.
As I mentioned, the specifics can vary a lot for different companies in different industries, but
I hope this post has given you a useful framework with which to think about environmental
ethics and to construct environmental policies that make sense for your particular business.
