Use the following sheets as sorting mats. Give students story problems such as:

“Ella has 14 crayons to share with her friend Sawyer. How many will both Ella and
Sawyer get after the crayons are fair shared?”

“Ezekiel has 12 hot dogs to share with his brother and sister. How many hot dogs will
Ezekiel, his brother, and sister receive after the hot dogs are fair shared?”

I always like to read “The Doorbell Rang” by Pat Hutchins to introduce fair sharing.
As the story goes on, I draw the different characters {ok, stick figures!} on the
smart board and we fair share the cookies {ok..circles I drew on the Smart board}
as we read each page.
After reading the book, I have my students complete the following book to practice
fair sharing with different amounts of people.
