UEP Vision

A world class university

MISSION (OF UEP)

To develop the learners into well rounded persons, imbued with an enlightened sense
of nationalism and a strong commitment to service globally relevant, honest, hardworking,
competent, efficient, and an effective accelerator of progress.

GOAL/S (College of Engineering)

To actively support the agro-industrial development of the region through efficient

manpower development and timely generation of socially acceptable, economically feasible
and ecologically sound engineering technologies.

OBJECTIVES (Electrical Engineering Department)

1. To provide high quality graduates technically equipped with electrical engineering

structures, electrical system design, management, humanities, physical and social
sciences;
2. To train and encourage students as agents of intelligence for future development; 3. To
instill student discipline, sense of moral values, integrity, honesty, industry, to
dramatically transform into globally competitive and dedicated electrical engineers; and
4. To promote research, extension, and infrastructure development, innovation,
protection of environment, appropriate and self-reliant, scientific and technological
capabilities of effective delivery and application of technological advancement.

Course number : EE-422

Course Title : Power System Protection

Course pre Requisite : Fourth Year Standing

Credit units : 3 units lecture

Course duration : 36 hours lecture
Course Description:

This course provides a thorough treatment of power system protection. Critical elements of
protection philosophy are presented. Electromechanical and microprocessor-based relay
technologies are studied. Traditional (time-based overcurrent coordination) and innovative
(communication-based overcurrent detection) methods of radial system protection are
explored. Instrument transformer selection and application is covered, followed by
application schemes of protective relays for the protection of A-C generators and motors,
transformers, buses, and lines.

Course Objectives:

1. Students to become familiar with power system protection philosophies 2.

Students to learn how to coordinate protective devices using time-current curves
